Which Kymco models are made in China?
« on: May 12, 2025, 12:46:18 AM »
I think most Kymcos with engine sizes below 300ccs are made in China.
Not sure about those 300cc and up.
What keeps Kymco alive in the USA?
Is it the sale of their smaller scooters, or the sale of those 300 and up?

I never got the impression that more than a tiny percentage of Americans were eager to own a scooter.

Some buy a scooter as their only means of transportation. I think most of these owners do not buy Kymcos - they buy the much less expensive Chinese no-namers.
I see a bazillion of them in Florida - darn few Kymcos. Too expensive.
.
Kymco makes a fine scooter - but in this world Americans aren't eager to buy any scooter. full stop, this is not Asia!  - now add a tariff and nearly double their price.

Will they appreciate? Not as long as English is the first choice here.

not too concerned - pretty sure I've got enough spares to reach my destination.... :)

in my neck of the woods, it's the small atv's that top Kymco sales, the ones that kids grow out of like shoes

According to this VIN decoder, my DTX360 was manufactured in Taiwan!

I often wonder if we're (the Boomer generation) the last generation that will widely experience the joy and freedom of two-wheeled travel.  Eldest lad has a Triumph T595, but he's in an increasingly small minority and may well have been influenced by my love for motorcycles?  Here in the UK a lot of the reduction in take up of biking is down to an increasingly tough licence testing regime (no bad thing per se) and eye-wateringly high insurance costs.  Puts youngsters off when they can buy & insure a car for significantly less than a motorcycle.

That's my tuppence worth (2d)!

Yeah
I don't think any of the 300cc and larger Kymcos were made anywhere but Taiwan.
Might be wrong.
My son's CB500X Honda was made in Thailand or Laos, forget which.
Honda PCX came out of Italy??!!
My Liberty from good old Uncle Ho's plantation.
Kymco - I think just China and Taiwan.

Wonder what after-tariff prices will be from other Asian countries,  and Italy?

Italy?  Mmm part of the EU one of the Donald's pet hates.  Can't see their 20% rate dropping anytime soon?

My Kymco Sento 50cc was made in China; the decal in the front said "Made in China". My Kymco Sento 100 was made in Taiwan; FWIW, the decal on the front says "Euro 3"

Interesting about your 100 from Taiwan.
I tend to regard Taiwan as the 'New Japan' , for their quality.
I believe the specs are up to "Euro 5+" these days.
