Well to all on the Kymco Forum I must bid a fond au revoir, as I am soon to defect from the marque. One or two of you may have gathered that I was getting itchy for a change of scoot and whilst I did consider the Xciting 400 for a while, the drab matt colours available here in the UK did nothing to entice me in. So this morning I had a close look at the Suzuki Burgervan 400 and did the deal this afternoon! The clincher for me was the fact that this dealership agreed to take my X-Town in part exchange for a very fair price. None of the other 3 dealerships I spoke to were even prepared to offer a price on a Kymco. Such a blinkered approach to the make.
I've been completely satisfied with my time on the 300 and will be genuinely sad to see it go, but unlike KK I don't have room for an ever-increasing stable of scooters!
If you'll have me, I do intend to carry on dropping into the Forum to see what y'all are up to and to get my fix of Stig's tales, Klav's photos and Crossbolt's irritable diatribes against poor service wherever he finds it. Until then, as one of our old DJ's used to sign off with, TTFN*

But also still looking for that buyer for it so I can update to the AK 550. ;D

Congrats on the new Bergman 400. I consider you a friend and hope you come back to the forum with updates on the Berg. I have a 400 Berg and the Majesty but did not join their forum yet. I joined this forum to find out how to access and fix a clock in a People 150 and stayed on. I have lived vicariously through the pictures you and others have sent of their countries and look forward to seeing more pictures of trips on your Berg. Safe travels.

What year, color pix please, miles, price?
It may be the only one that has not had the flowing lines spoiled.
I thought mine was a very handsome lump of a bike - smooth as a Buick/and weighed like one - just wished for a gloss finish.

Well, all bugger! You up an' hightail on a Burgy 400 limozine and expect a welcome BACK?! You bet! I wanna hear your story on the oil level sight glass antics! Don't forget: 'twas the Burgman crowd that got me on a car tire for the rear! Same size wheel! Only it is more miserable to remove the Burgy rear, I am told....!
You should really enjoy that rig, Neil. They screwed up by not continuing that model. See you soon, dear friend!

So who is this John G? Don't know him. And what is wrong with a Matte finish? Kinda like to know about that one since I'm looking at a Matte Silver Crystal AK 550 (most likely)... If I can't find a Matte Deep Blue one nearby (not so likely).

Well, unless my Burgman 650 sells I'll be hanging onto it and continue to ride it. I really don't HAVE to replace it with another scooter but just want to. I still like my Burgman, but I think I might like the AK too. Would like to give it a chance in my garage.
Oh, and I don't know about the Burgman 400 but I have removed the Burgman 650 rear wheel for tire changes. Not so bad IMO. Hardest part is getting the rear brake caliper off the disk after much wiggling and sliding around. Not really hard but just takes a bit of time.
It's the Burgman 650 I wish they continued past 2018. There is a Burgman 400 for 2022. Is that the model year you bought Neil?

Thanks Stig and you’d better believe that your positive review of your Berg was a factor in my final choice! I’ll give you all the full monty on the scooter once I have it, don’t want to jinx anything! I will just say I tried for a 2020 used one but fate conspired to force me to take a new 2021 model... Hey ho.

I had 2 new Burgmans. First Suzuki took back with leaky engine castings after 8,000 miles---second went 50,000 miles or so. Nice ride, but buffeting not as well controlled with Givi Adjustable Windshield as on Silverwing. Expensive, hard to work on, heavy, but nice ride. Very tire sensitive.

John G? The guy’s a legend, maybe the most travelled on a scooter on this Forum. Look up John Grinsel’s posts. Sure he’d have a view on matte finishes too! It’s just a matter of taste I guess and mine prefers gloss for my automotive products.
As I say, I’ll be back to report on my impressions of the Berg.

Yep. Genuinely I’d have taken the 2020 one or even a 2018 with only 1,050 miles up, but neither dealer would take a Kymco in part ex 🙁

Thanks for the report John. It’s shod with Dunlops so hopefully OK? Never find buffeting too much of a issue, but then I don’t do more than 200 miles in one day now I’m past the first flush of youth!

I always found it interesting how different forums get a bit touchy about how their primary brands or models are spelled. I don't usually but...
I'm sure I've read here, or maybe it was a different forum, about correcting one member spelling Kymco as Kimco.
On the Burgman forum there are a few members who are quick to correct Burgman from Bergman.
Not that it really matters since we all know what is referred to. But sometimes it does stand out. ;)

Well I thought I’d better update you all. I don’t know if I jinxed things by speaking too soon, but this morning I emailed the Dealership to cancel the Burgman deal we struck on Friday. Why?, you may well ask. It’s a case of competing demands on our disposable cash I guess.
In a particularly galling act of impeccable timing, my wife’s Range Rover packed in on Saturday night which, in and of itself is not the end of the world- it’s only the electronic parking brake after all. It is the culmination, however, of a series of breakdowns and to her represents “the final straw”! Fair enough, it was me stranded alone Saturday, at night, but it could easily have been her. We need a newer, more reliable, car says she.
So any new scooter is deferred by at least a year while we shop for a new (to us) car.
So reports of my KymcoForum departure are hereby refuted. For now at least!

Good luck in the search for a new family vehicle. I (grudgingly) agree that a dependable car/truck is more important than a new scoot!

Now I'm sure there'll be those on here muttering about me being under the thumb, or some such descriptor, but as my better half now brings in more £££'s per month than does my stipend, I'm happy to subscribe to the old adage about a happy wife equalling a happy life!

No, no,....you wouldn't have been happy with your new scoot while the Mrs is leaning on her elbows staring into the engine bay of the land Rovering by the light of her Zippo.
Please do not hesitate to set me straight - but I was still under the impression that British autos in the upper price ranges are 'difficult' to own - except for those who have plenty of expendable cash.
Here - many, many choose oriental for reliability.
I actually did flinch when you first mentioned your Range Rover.
When we were in Paris my parents went to the Rover factory to pick up Dad's new Range Rover single cab. Sand tan with khaki canvases. They took him on a course to teach him to use all of its abilities. Washed it and presented it to them after a lunch. Picked them up at the airport in a Rover sedan.
He was going to use it for hunting trips in Wyoming, etc. - but discovered no one in the States made a camper to fit in the cargo bed! So he sold it in Mass. to another AirForce nut. I loved sitting in that thing - tire on the hood - with enough galvanized metals protruding to kill you many ways over if you rolled in it!
Anyway - I digress....again.
PS: it was while they were in the UK on that lovely holiday that I was being arrested in Paris. My mother will tell you all about at any, every, family get-together.

Absolutely correct , "Land Rover"....not the one with leather seats! I misspoke.
As for the incident in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (western suburb of Paris):
Having stayed too long at the Fête des Loges (amusement fair), and missed the last bus, Kevin P. and I were walking home @2:00AM. While I was looking at the cool Adidas soccer cleats in a shop window (I distinctly recall this!)- Kevin crossed the square and climbed on a big old motorcycle (probably some kind of Peugeot) parked amidst many others in front of the train station.....and got it started!
He rolled up to me and said, "you ride me home and bring it back and then walk home". I lived within walking distance - Kevin lived several miles distant.
Stupid at 15 & not much smarter now, I climbed on and managed to get it into gear. I made it about 2 blocks before 2 navy blue (black?) Peugeot police cars with blue lights flashing blocked my path.
Chuck de Gaulle was to speak in the town square in front of the train station the next day. Assassination attempts on him were a popular pastime by his former military officers at this time - and the square was 'staked out', with police on rooftops, etc. Watching for bombs to be placed, and rude American kids, etc.
Gendarmes handcuffed and shoved us into back seats. I spent the night re-breathing this loud detective's Gitanes' (perhaps the worst smelling excuse for tobacco)...and staring at his scary 3-fingered hand as he pounded it on his desk. JAG office sent a translator the next morning.
To sum up : In the movie Steve McQueen played me; Dustin Hoffman was Kevin. (Kevin did manage to escape - but was eaten by the natives in French Guiana)
And...I still have a coconut as a center piece on our dining room table.

True and if I'm absolutely honest, none of the new Burgman colour offerings here in the UK really float my boat so when the time comes, I'll be looking for a 2018-20 version!

I did my Burgman deal over the phone and emails with a distant dealer. They actually had both colors avail. that year (2014?) with a special internet pricing. All black and half silver & black. They trucked it to me and I did the paperwork and $ with their driver/notary. Then we had to call to find out why the ABS light was on when I started it. "Scooter has to be going 10-15 mph before it goes off."
Both colors that year were matte, though.
Anyway - i knew my wife hates black so I went with the two color bike. My choice would have been white.
I do miss its ride -sometimes....: there is a stretch of highway nearby which was recently repaved - and is absolutely butter smooth for several miles. I mean so smooth you think something is the matter, since it's so quiet! I found myself going 85mph on that Burgman one morning. Very relaxed - esp. after I lowered the RPM's by @900rpm with a set of Dr P sliders.

This year's 400s here are dark silver, dull grey and matt black (or to quote them: Metallic Matt Sword Silver, Solid Iron Grey & Metallic Matt Black No.2) Is it just me or do most bike manufacturers today show little imagination in their use of the colour palette? Honourable exceptions being BMW, Honda & Kawasaki

I would agree on the Honda and Kawasaki colors being a bit more interesting for variety than even BMW. And even maybe Suzuki depending on model year.
It seems even Kymco CAN offer color choices outside the USA. The 2022 AK is offered in 4 colors, 2 boring and 2 more interesting. But dealers still seem to gravitate to the boring colors when there is a choice... or maybe it's Kymco, or other makers, that make more of the boring colors and make it harder for dealers to get the more interesting colors.

Kymco is capable of making some bright colors my orange Xiciting is proof of that.

here in Italy my not so favourable dealer told me, he would have / has to order one year / 10 month in advance. So he orders colors which he knows would sell. Since here in Europe seems to be cool to drive/ ride a dark or metal grey vehicle, he orders that.
Colorful motorcycles and scooters are dead capital.
