OK, did the conversion on a google site.
You can write this down in your manual, and keep it under your seat: yep, it is 25 psi in the front tire and 29 in the rear tire, just like my Like.

Sorry to hear about your experience with your dealer - me, I'm looking hard to locate a 'scooter specific' shop somewhere within 50 miles!
Some place where scooters are appreciated and scooter riders aren't second class  2 wheelers. I met a lady in the gorcer's parking lot last eve, she was riding a $7000 Yamaha scooter and we compared notes about our local dealer. They sell motorcycles out the front door and scooters out the side door. We are stuck with them in this town - and they treat her as poorly as me and her scoot cost almost 3 times what mine did.

We just decided to enjoy the heck out of our scooters - and keep looking for a shop to care for our rides.
Best of luck~!

Hey, you're in luck~!
Go here and click on your owner's manual pdf - it has got to have the recommended tire pressures in there!
 http://www.kymcousa.com/owners/onroad/LIKE50.pdf

There should be alot of other good stuff on view there as well.

I am a new Like 200i owner and there's plenty of info in the manual. My tires take 25 front, 29 rear - and let me tell you it makes a lot of difference if your pressures are wrong - comfort & handling wise. My dealer issued my scoot to me with 10lbs too much in each tire!

Scary isn't it that these folks can sell a fine scooter and know so little about them. Did you, too, buy your scooter from a mostly motorcycle dealer?

I found these manual downloads on the www.KymcoUSA.com  site.

I'm taking the long way to work each morning (4AM or 5AM - so no traffic) Now I've started finding longer ways to come home on my new Like 200i (180 miles)
Tis a trick trying to find streets that I can hold it at no more than 35mph. Don't see HOW one can do 1000 miles at no more than 1/2 throttle during this break-in period.

« on: May 06, 2013, 10:36:07 PM »
Emailed Kymco over the w/e and left a message with them today - then checked the mail box. Of course , there they were - 2 pretty $50 Visa cards and a nice hand signed card from KYMCO, Cool!
I should not be so negative - sometimes you get a neat scooter and some bucks (plus every time I came to look at the scooter in the showroom I mentioned to the salesman that if they 'could not' get the boss to move on the price - I'd expect no less than $100 towards a helmet. On my final visit I told him I'd take the LX blue & white one and while he was writing that up I'd be over looking at my free helmet!
1/2 hour later he came over and handed me a $100 gift card from the dealer.

In 40 yrs I have never before had to pay sticker price on a vehicle - but it was buy my Kymco here or 50 miles away. One more negative about living in a small midwestern town. (PS: I got fitted for a nice helmet - and then bought it online for $50 less. I'll use the gift card to help pay for my first service.)

If this place was a scooter shop - it would be a whole different story - I would want to support them because they would have treated me like a valued scooter customer.

LIKE 200i / Veteran Like riders carry which tools?
« on: May 05, 2013, 11:35:13 PM »
If you veteran Like folks could take a few minutes and jot down the tools you have learned to carry with your scooter - that would save me from having to put this whole lot I've purchased at Walmart under the seat.

I'm never really going to be that far afield for awhile yet - still it would be reassuring to know I'm carry the right  stuff if something starts working itself adrift.

Which 5 sockets, which 4 wrenches, etc.?

Thank you.........

Super!
This kind of stuff is invaluable to all of us newbies with scooters.
I could have pulled on those plastic panels all day, and never figured out that you need to slide it sideways 1/4 inch.
I imagine this kind of info seems old hat to the experienced - but it is GOLDEN Info to myself - & probably a number of others.
This forum site is agreat because of guys like you!
You've won a donut!
(OldSchoot is now "Stig", because apparently there is a veteran scooter rider out there with a similar name - and I surely don't want to be confused with someone who knows what he's talking about!)

Hello, Yes that was a promotion running at Kymco's web site when I bought my Like 200i a few weeks ago -
I mentioned it to my salesman, he was clueless but he looked it up on line and saw what I was talking about. He said the $100 would come directly from  Kymco in the mail.
$50 for smaller engines, $100 for the others.
It's legit ~!
Which reminds me, I'm going to contact Kymco and ask where my gift card is!

LIKE 200i / 1000 mile break in ? Really!?
« on: May 03, 2013, 10:42:12 PM »
OK, I've got 150 miles on my scooter - riding to work and a little eveing practice, with gentle throttle over a 3 week period.
Now I'm supposed to keep up riding at partial throttle, with regular oil (Not synthetic!) for the break in of 1000 miles.
Is there an automotive engine under there? These are break in methods for some new cars - and not even a whole lot of new cars - just a few.

A scooter: 1000 miles. Really?

I bet a large % of scooters are in the hands of 2nd and 3rd owners without this kind of mileage.

I'm a gonna do my best to be gentle (not listening to that 'other' school of thought that says you should break it in HARD!)

I'm going to change the oils every couple of weeks (cause it's easy and relaxing), and learn to get that front panel off so I can do the valves frequently - and then I'm going to ride it . It will probably outlive me. Synthetic is too slippery - nonsense , synthetic is best for Porsche - synthetic causes blow by and oil loss - hogwash, there is no such thing as a 'too slippery oil', use reg oil for break in; use synthetic oil for break in, etc. etc.,......

I'm just going to work on the new seat I bought, check the oils, listen for tappets and ride it with a smile on my dumb face.

Hello, just finished reading awhile on these scooter specific web sites. Good stuff!
I have been told that there is more than one new york city scooter site.

OldSchoot, do you have a link? Those look nice.
I don't have my scooter yet, (I should be getting my Like 200i this month) but when sitting on the scooter at the dealer, I did notice the view seemed a bit narrow with the stock mirrors.

Hello, You can search this title on eBay : " Piaggio Vespa LML Star Scooter long adjustable motorcycle mirror-Italy "($29.95 w/ $6.50 shipping)
You will also need this adapter, eBay again :  " Motorcycle or Scooter Mirror Adapters - 10mm to 8mm "  ($4.99 w/free shipping)

The above is what I finally fitted to my scooter - just the left side for now - Not cheap but I can now clearly see ALL of the road directly behind me. The shaft is the heavier 10mm - so the vibrations are less than for an 8mm mirror shaft, Some mirrors are plastic. This one is not, it is all metal and glass.

First I tried mirror extenders, with poor results:
The pair of small alum. adapters, titled on eBay thusly : " 8mm Mirrors Extender Riser Adapter Honda Kymco Scooter "  DO NOT work well with the plastic shroud on the Like handlebars. Plus they were rediculously expensive  @ $34.99 !!

I have broad shoulders - and this mirror works great - I can keep an eye on what is following me. It can be adjusted in many ways to address what you need. Kymco DOES offer a set of accessory mirrors - my dealer does not stock these , you pay to have them ordered - they do NOT seem to extend beyond the hand grips in the company photo. My long shafted mirror is well beyond the grip - but not weirdly so!)

I will watch the answers to this question with interest!

(IF it is like most automotive warranties re. oil changes, etc. - if you keep good records, sales slips for the oil, gaskets, etc.) the manufacturer is prrety much obliged to prove your maintenance caused a problem. However- just imagine asking this question of your dealer's service manager! )

The big one, as it seems to me, is the issue of valve adjustments - since a chimp can change the oils without screwing it up. Which raises another question to debate - since many service techs say , "Naw, you don't need to mess with the valves if she's running good - not till you get a few K miles on it, ya don't!") What will your   service manager say ?

Is this a question we can ask of a regional service manager? Anyone know how to reach one?
PS: please shoot a video of you removing that front cover to get at the cylinder head for the valve adjustment! I'll send you a donut if you do!

My Kymco service guy says to use Pro Honda Hypoid Shaft Drive 80W90 Oil. $5 for 8oz. It is what Honda says to use in GoldWings - so figure it's OK for my Kymco Like 200i LX which is about 1/10th the price of that Honda!
! You should be able to find this oil at any Honda dealer.

LIKE 200i / Fill to the add hole, or .18 L ?
« on: April 28, 2013, 11:55:08 PM »
My manual says add .18 L gear oil, while the service manual says to add to the fill hole in the rear end.
Is this the same? (I can't see in there to see if we're talking the same amount of oil)
