Good job Doc.
Unless one lives here in the Mojave desert, nobody on here knows where this is. The first two pictures are from Red Rock Canyon in
Las Vegas, Nevada.I have done the Red Rock ride so many times on my Agility 125cc bike.  I have gone hiking in many of those areas too or Red Rock. The third picture could be near the local farm up in the Northwest part of town.
The scooter brigade is having our In N Out gathering this Saturday at noon local time.

David, You were right about the first two pictures, but the third picture is less than three miles from the Red Rock overlook.
Stephanie Yue and I had hot chocolate sitting out on the front porch after our ride through Red Rock.

And why is that coyote dragging that Acme box?
Yep Coyotes, Roadrunners and Tumbleweeds.  Here is a picture I took a year ago Veteran's Day, while on a ride. Don't know where the Acme box is hid.
Sorry, no current picture of a roadrunner or tumbleweed.  I see them often, but never thought to take a picture. Out where we live, we still have tumbleweeds rolling down the street sometimes.

Living in the foothills, some mornings I take a 13 mile ride about 20 minutes to the mountains to enjoy my home brewed coffee.
Unlike a lot of the country we don't have cute little towns with gourmet coffee shops.
I have to settle for mountain views and general store coffee.

The poster was htcneil2 he darksided his xciting 500 in 2014 and his last post was in 2016

The tire was a federal formoza 165/60r14 75H. Same one I had on my 09 exciting 500ri abs when I bought it.
The bike had 6000 miles on it when I bought it and I put another 5000 miles on it. The tire is still good for another 15,000 miles or so.  I've never had a handling problem, although this wasn't the first bike I had darksided. So, I never even thought about it when buying the xciting 500Ri.  Darksided my burgman 650 when the rear shinko needed to be replaced after 4500 miles.

As a matter fact here is one of the burgmanusa members profile. Dave_J

So roughly about a thousand?
I suppose thats still fairly cheaper than car maintenance.

Not really.

Normal rear tire wear on a maxi scooter will be 3500-7000 miles depending on how you ride.
If you dark side you can get over 20,000 miles.

I had a 2009 exciting ri abs.  Stored outside and never had a problem starting.  Even if I didn't start it weeks on end.  I would not hesitate to buy another.  The early models were subjected to an internal recall for a weak starter motor.  In other words you didn't get a replacement starter unless you complained about it not starting.

Not everyone needs to install in tilted position in their garage and would therefore store as any other trailer. Shoot, I don't even have a garage as my trailers (3) all sit outside. Kinda nice to have one when you really need it.

I don't recall ever saying 'everyone needs to install in tilted position in their garage.'   For those who don't need to store it folded "DON"T"
But for the folks that want to or because of HOMEOWNER ASSOCIATIONS have no choice but to store in their garage.  I was informing them of that is isn't as easy as it seems.  What I was addressing, was something I have never seen written when people have posted about buying these trailers and how cheap they are. That's all nothing more.

I never had a problem with the trailer, towing it or what it could handle, it suited my needs perfectly.  It was a pain in the rear however to tip into the storage position because it was so heavy. It is not something you want to do everyday or without help. Pictures are of my HF trailer before I installed the front wheel locking wheel chock.

The only reason I had to get a trailer was, U-Haul would not rent me a trailer, because I owned a Ford Explorer Sport trac and u-haul has a policy against hooking up their equipment to any at the time Explorers.
U HAUL POLICY
U-Haul has chosen not to rent behind this tow vehicle based on our history of excessive costs in defending lawsuits involving Ford Explorer towing combinations. This policy is not related to safety issues. This is an unusual circumstance for U-Haul – we have built our success for over 60 years by saying 'yes' to our customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are committed to working with our customers to find alternative options to help with their move.

Believe I would have rather paid $14 to rent a uhaul motorcycle trailer once in a while than mess around with the Harbor Freight one.

July 4, 2012 I bought a 4 x 8 Harbor Freight Haul Master Folding Trailer, to haul my motorcycle's.
Assembled it in my garage, pretty straight forward design.
I had seen one at a gas station with a diamond plate steel deck, that had been painted and sanded.  The owner told me the diamond plate was very expensive, looked nice unpainted, but it was too slippery. He regretted not using plywood.
I put plywood decking on with a removable locking front wheel chock.  It worked well for me.  All that said, don't let anyone fool you into thinking that you will be folding it and STANDING IT UP on its casters without help.  You have to unpin and unbolt the folding parts, flip the back over onto the front.  At this point you should secure the two half's together.
Now start lifting both half's up on to the casters, while the tongue drops down. You're trying to tip 150 to 200 lbs or more.
If you try to do this on smooth concrete the caster support won't have anything to bite into and will just slide away from you.
If you happen to be built like "The Rock" aka Dwayne Johnson it shouldn't be a problem. I'm over 6 foot I couldn't do it safely by myself.  I ended up buying a electric hoist.  I attached the hoist to the ceiling joist in the garage. That was the only way I could safely fold and stand the trailer up for storage.
Good Luck.

I just read something about her crashing in Alaska, trying to get her Vespa home.
Stephanie Yue has traveled all around the USA, Canada and Mexico 67,000 on a Vespa 250cc scoot.
I met her twice during the "High Roller" events held here in Las Vegas.  We talked about how marginal a 250cc scooter was for touring even for someone as small as she was. There were times she couldn't break 50 mph in a headwind traveling through Montana. That was before she added side cases.

Below was her itinerary through Alaska.
Here's where the dates get extra flexible. Basically, I have about 40 days to ride where I feel like it!

Stage 2: Seattle, WA → Haines, AK (~5k miles)
May 9: Port Angeles, WA with Laura. Must resist oversupplying at Swain's.
May 10 ~ 11: Vancouver, BC with Rob, Vespa Club of Canada's website designer.
May 12: Whistler, BC with Neil the Cannonballer.
May 13: Lac la Hache at the Rangeland Motel, owned by Ruckus former prez, George.
May 14: Vanderhoof, BC. Motel.
May 15: Hazelton, BC with Pamela's friend, Phil and Peggy
May 16: Stewart, BC. Camping.
May 17: Boya Lake, BC. Camping.
May 18 ~ 21: Whitehorse, YT. Beez Kneez Bakpakers.
May 22 ~ 23: Dawson City, YT. Hostel.
May 24: Tok, AK, via Top of the World Highway!
May 25 ~ 26: Fairbanks, AK. Billie's Backpacker's Hostel.
May 27: Coldfoot Camp, AK.
May 28 ~ 29: Return to Fairbanks, AK by plane. Huge thanks to Billie's Backpacker's Hostel.

On May 28th, my bike went down as I was returning from Atigun Pass. I flew to Seattle, WA with a broken collarbone. Serenity is currently stored in AK. Huge thank you to everyone who helped me towards recovery!

Stage 3: Mending in Seattle, WA
May 30 ~ June 28: Convalesce in Seattle, WA with Gwynne and Tom.

Bonus Stage: Boston, MA
June 29 ~ July 12: Fly to Peru for a family trip. Yep, you read that right, gonna hike Machu Picchu in moto boots!
July 13 ~ 16: Lammy Jammy in Lehigh, PA.
July 17 ~ onward: Rest in Cambridge, MA. Cuddle the Fred.

That's all for now!

Xciting 500 / Re: xciting 500 2007
« on: July 24, 2017, 10:45:47 PM »
Have just bought a Xciting 500 2007 model. I love the bike very smooth great for the passenger. I have one issue, starter motor turns over very slow, compared to other bikes I have had. Today 22 degrees C it turned over slowly as normal but would not start. How can I get it to turn over faster? And why won't it start.
Here is a reprint from another forum a few years ago. Maybe it will help

Re: Trouble Starting in Cold Weather
« Reply #6 on: October 07, 2010, 02:58:06 AM »
I have seen two issues with the fuel injected Xciting and hard starting. One there was supposedly some internal recall on early fuel injected models. An internal recall means they don't recall all of them but there is a fix for those complaining of hard cold starts. There was supposedly a replacement part with new fuel injection mapping. Second, there were supposedly some slow turning starting motors that may have caused hard starting in cold weather. I have read of some having the starter replaced with a faster spinning starter that fixed the problem. Both fixes were done under warranty. Have your dealer check with Kymco concerning these two items.
I have the carb model and in cold weather it would sometimes not want to start. I learned that if I put the battery tender on at night, in cold weather, it will start first time on the coldest mornings, with the battery warm and fully charged

Roadcraft / Re: High Risk - Low Risk

When my wife and I rider together she always berates me for not seeing landmarks or things we pass. I try to explain to her when she's riding with me I'm focused on the road and not on the sights. I hope to warm her up to the idea of letting me mount a camera on her helmet so afterwards I can see what she's talking about.

Given how fast the kid seems to be going I'm surprised he was conscious after his crash.

That is one of the reasons I don't "love" riding. I like enjoyin the sights when I travel.
