What's wrong with smelling like a lawnmower?

..so, first ride to work today..

..twas very enjoyable...the ppl runs a steady 45 mph indicated..

..flat, downhill, and most importantly, UPHILL too!!!

..downhill, i could drop back to less than half-throttle, and maintain the same speed...45...

..flat land, 2/3 throttle will maintain...45...

..uphill (on the same hills my a50 will drop at least 5mph) the ppl maintains a steady ...45...with some throttle left...

..so, i'm either looking at a cdi, or cvt issue here...from what i've read, there's nothing i can do to the cdi except replace it...anybody know anything different??

..i can deal with the cvt..pretty familiar with those processes..lol...

Yep, two stroke oil smoke -- GOOD.  If you want it to smell really good, get some Bel-Ray.  Not lawn mowerish.  More of a mean screamin machine smell.

Your cdi is under the front shield, should have the green wire comming out the bottom unplug and your derestricted,I liked the molossi best for the veriater, put a #85 main in and a 3/8 hole in the airbox at the front outer cover, should get you another 3 to 4 mph and a little better pick up.The stock 8.5 rollers will be good untill you do the pod and pipe.New you'd love it!

..i've read that unplugging that green wire will cause the cdi to burn out...

..so, i opened the cvt..the oem belt is the same length as the "stock" a50 belt...

..it ssays KYMCO  23100-KEB7-9000  BANDO...

..further observation shows that it has never ridden all the way up on the drive face..

..do i need a longer belt??

Or heavier rollers? Would they put too short a belt on? unless it is another form of restriction, maybe to go with the stepped drive boss. That might explain the different belts for your A50?

..i was expecting a longer belt....

..what gets my attention, is the steady 45mph indicated on the speedometer...

..like something is physically limiting top speed...

..belt length would be a likely suspect...

..if it's riding at the lowest limit of the driven pulleys, and can't get any higher on the drive pulleys...because it's too short....the scoot would run a steady top speed...

..yes??

..no??..

..well, it just so happens, that i have a 748-18-28 kevlar belt on the guilty...it's @ 1/2 inch longer, if you hold the belts in the position they would ride on the pulleys during top speed...
..so, i put that belt, and the NCY variator, because i like the ramp of the ncy better than the OEM..
..the Malossi ramp looks better than the ncy, but it's shot...sloppy bushing fit.....tho.......nevermind...
..along with the OEM rollers (still in great condition), and a cpl of things happened..
..two good things, and one not so good...
..not so good was i now drop speed uphill...down to 35 mph, on a really steep incline, that dropped to 40 with the oem...
..one good thing, is that the engines rpms, which were really winding out, dropped to a more comfortable sounding level...
..the best good thing, is that downhill, i hit 60 mph indicated...

..nearly crapped my pants...gotta gps this speedometer, but it was most definately faster than i've ever run th' guilty...

..wwowww....  :o

...so, now i'm thinking i should put the 1000 contra spring in th clutch to grab hold of that longer belt a bit better....

..keep in mind...i'm modding a stock setup..slightly......

..not sure about changing the fly springs, as i got pretty frickin' quick take-off still...might need them with the stiffer contra tho...

..what ya'll think??
