Agility 125 / Water in the battery compartment
« on: October 26, 2009, 03:44:17 PM »
My old Kymco Cobra 50 (Top Boy in USA) had the same placement of battery compartment as A125, underneath the floorboard.

Kymco is obviously challenged with this battery positioning issue - on my P250 they put it under the seat and it should be behind the seat like on Piaggio Beverly, in order to get more space in the met in box storage. It is OK to put battery as low as possible because of lowered center of gravity, provided that water does not get in!!!!

The problem with battery underneath the floor is the fact that this space is not exactly water proof. I found out yesterday that both battery, all fuses and CDI were bathing in water!!!

Took everything out, dried everything, sprayed with WD40, installed back and I am planning to make a gasket with silicone or something...

Incredible.

It is not clearly visible in the picture, but CDI+connector are sitting in a pool of water and white spots are electrode grease smeared all over...

Technical | How To / Kymco Agility 125 maintenance @ 10.000 kms
« on: July 19, 2009, 05:42:21 PM »
Today I did maintenance of A125 myself because the warranty has just expired (2 years or 10.000 km, whichever comes first)

- changed spark plug - no issues, the old spark plug was like new after 10k km, no deposits, no change in color, no wear of electrodes

- inspected fuel filter

- inspected and cleaned air filter

- changed oil in front brake - no issues

- checked tightness of screws and bolts (loose ones found on exhaust, one screw missing on the front cover and replaced)

- changed engine oil - issue - the service manual says:

"Remove the drain bolt to drain the engine oil thoroughly. Remove the oil filter screen cap and clean the oil filter screen with compressed air"

Of course, there is no picture of "drain bolt" anywhere to be seen in the service manual!!!! So I guess it is the screw on the other (left) side. I have drained the oil through oil filter screen cap but I think I did not replace everything that way. Any ideas?

- changed transmission oil - big issue. I think I have X-File Agility. Of course, my transmission cover looks different than the one in service manual, and just like the on on jprestonian`s ex. Agility as shown on http://kymcojones.blogspot.com/2007/06/first-scheduled-maintenance-day.html . I have drained the oil into measurement tube (1.2 dl flowed out) and used injection to add new oil. I have added 1 dl, 2 dl, 3 dl and it still DID NOT FLOW OUT OF THE CHECK HOLE. Not knowing what to do I have drained half again and left 1.5 dl inside (I remind you, initially there was 1.2 dl inside, service manual says 1.1 dl during disassembly and 1 dl during change). So, my logic was "there was 1.2 dl inside and eventhough I can pour in 3+ dl, I will leave it as it was".

I  would really be happy to hear from other A125 owners that have changed engine and transmission oils themselves on the last two topics.

The next thing is service belt and roller weight replacement around 12-13.000 kms.

Technical | How To / Kymco Agility 125 electricity problem
« on: July 14, 2009, 10:05:00 PM »
... started manifesting itself today. It has 10.500 kms on it.

1. Cannot run the scooter using electric starter (starter is dead when start button is pushed), runs normally using kick start
2. The horn has a strange squealing sound
3. The turn signals do not work and the flasher relay sounds like it short-circuited (I can hear a buzzing sound)

Number 3 could be faulty relay but I cannot fit 1 and 2 into the equation.

Tomorrow I will have a rendezvous with the mechanic, so I will let you know what is the verdict.

General Discussion / Got myself a quad!
« on: June 27, 2009, 09:53:05 PM »
Today I bought this:

They say that ferocity level should be 5/5 . :)

It should be delivered to the shop to be assembled on Tuesday. By then I have to get insurance policy and then go to inspection and get the papers and license plate. :)

So, this is the fourth vehicle in the family, after NRG 50, Agility 125 and People 250 S. I think that would be it for 2009, I have to stop spending my way through recession.  ;D ;D

General Discussion / What we use Kymcos for...
« on: June 08, 2009, 09:18:20 PM »
... except 365 days per year for everything, including going to work, travelling and groceries?

 :P

Today, for example, for cat-transport to the vet... lady cat had a litter of four two months ago so she had to be fixed today...

Technical | How To / Thermometer mod
« on: April 05, 2009, 03:26:17 PM »
Finally, I did a little thermometer mod to my new People S 250.

As you can see, I used China made and ebay purchased (around 5 US$ with shipping!) aquarium thermometer (hence, water-proof). It is written on the casing that it measures from 23-28 C, but I tested it by putting it in the freezer and it shows also sub zero temperatures.

To mount it on the handlebar I used a mounting set that should be used to install on/off switch of heated handgrips from my previous scooter (Beverly 200) that I did not use as I mounted the switch inside the glove compartment.

It took some tweaking, annoying adjustments, adding some rubber padding, drilling some holes, but now I am pretty satisfied with the results, at least until somebody decides to tear it off while the scooter is parked downtown. I also have some doubts regarding strength off the plastic that holds the thermometer casing, but we shall see.

Too bad Kymco did not include thermometer as a part of the basic package for every scooter - I had it on Beverly and miss it dearly on Kymco.

Attached is also a pic of "daily commuting team" that includes Agility 125. What is missing is Piaggio NRG 50 LC 2T that is fully rebuilt and enjoying the status of a "reserve emergency vehicle" in the garage.  ;D

p.s. The next mod will be heated handgrips - Agility already has them installed... it is strange that on ebay.co.uk and ebay.com there are almost no vendors selling them... luckily there are on ebay.de :)

p.p.s. Just realized last week that somebody stole the cap on top of the exhaust can on Agility... or it fell of (I doubt it, it is held by several nuts/bolts). Ordered a new one.

Agility 125 / Weight rollers
« on: March 01, 2009, 12:24:04 AM »
Does anybody know the weight of OEM weight rollers for Agility 125?
While we're at it, the same question for Kymco People 250S. :)
Thanks!

Agility 125 / A125 won't start using starter button
« on: February 08, 2009, 12:16:15 PM »
Suddenly, Agility 125 will not start when using starter button (starts normally using kick lever).

For a few days it is completely dead and then, for a few days it starts normally. So, it is not a dead starter.

I would not say it is a question of micro switches actuated by brake levers, because when it works, it works normally using either brake (front or rear).

I would say it is most probably the main starter switch (button) itself. The scooter is still under warranty (10.000 kms or 2 years here - it is 1 year old and has 7500 kms on it), so I will ask the mechanic to check it out, the only problem is that the issue manifests itself intermittently, so as usually, it could be problematic to reproduce when I visit him...  >:(

Did anybody notice such issue with A 125? Thanks.

People 250 / Just bought People 250 S
« on: February 07, 2009, 11:10:06 PM »
Just wanted to say hello. Purchased People 250 S + Givi 42, should be here on Monday.

My girlfriend has Agility 125, 1 year old, 7500 km on it and Piaggio NRG 2003 with 26.000 kms. First owner.

It will be 10 years exclusively on two wheels for me next week. It all started in 1999 with Piaggio Zenith 50. Then Kymco Cobra 50, Piaggio NRG extreme 50 liquid cooled (upgraded to 72 cc), NRG 50 mc3 liquid cooled, 2003 Piaggio Beverly 200 (sold it yesterday to a friend after happy 30.000 km in the past 3.5 years) and Kawasaki ZR-7S.

I read almost all messages on the forum - strange that there are no more posters?

Greetings to Jprestonian - I am the one who bothers him from time to time.  ;)

All the best to Kymco owners from Rijeka, Croatia.
