New grocery item seen yesterday.
Nuoc mam is a condiment made of fermented fish (often just heads)
One could smell this sauce from a distance,  just as they could smell our Dial soap from a distance

An olfactory memory.

Saw and smelled this made in huge barrels at far east🤦.
Edit: was in Korea many years ago and the lady who managed this barrels told me her oldest batch might be as old as 25 years and still fermenting. Inhuman smell.but tasted not too bad.....

I was in a restaurant in Germany in the 60s, and the only thing I recognized on the menu was trout, so I ordered that. Then the waiter came,  took me over to the tank and said, which one do you want?

Brings back childhood memories.  UK late 50's just out of food rationing and we still had pig's trotters every week as a bit of a delicacy!

Zampone di maiale(stuffed pigs feet) and lingua di manzo (brined, braised cattle tongue) are considered delicasies here in northern Italy.
Pig ears, snout and head meat we usually put in a "suelze loaf" with veggies, cold to be eaten.
Tastes are different from pond to pond.

it is amazing how calling something by its Italian name can make it seem so appealing!  (No offense to the Northern Italians but I will pass on those 3 foods!!)  but thanks for sharing the pics.

.@hawk, have to admit not everyone here is enjoying those triade.

If you hate somebody here, you bring a zampone plus stinco (upper pig foot, baked) plus a panettone as a gift to an invitation.
People will smile but drop it afterwards.
