NSR: Sunflowers & cat adventure X 3
« on: September 07, 2026, 08:55:38 PM »

Drove out to see the sunflowers at sunrise. Mature heads point east - I'm told young plants try to follow the sun across the sky to some degree.

this is a "working farm", that opens itself up to visitors every couple of years when they plant their fields with sunflowers. Located 1/2 mile N. of Yellow Springs - it get a lot of visitors with cameras!

Daughter and I spent the morning posting cat fliers all over Yellow Springs for the stray that we've been looking after.. Y.S. is such a destination spot that we've received inquiries from visitors from northern and southern Ohio - and 3 students at Antioch in Y.S. We got as far as watching him ride off in a car today - only to be brought back in 10 mins because he was pitching a fit in the carrier we bought for him.
So, back to training him to ride in a carrier. Or, worst case - I give him the whole 8' of my truck bed to ride in to his new home!

If interested - I can do FEDEX or UPS~!
My daughter named him OREO - but, honestly, he doesn't answer to a dam thing!

We have a lady who wants him - but we must deliver him to Yellow Springs Friday - and this cat does not act like it's ever seen a carrier. So, it's back to PetSmart today for a little larger one. Also read that there's a calming spray - and even a pill to calm cats. Will be putting his food in the carrier...maybe a mouse or two if he brings any more home!

If the transport fails - might move out the daughter and give him her bedroom.

Yeah, the family keeps asking me the same thing. Last 8 mos wife and I  have started a new "let's get to know each other again" program. Every 3>5 weeks we check into a nice hotel for the w/e. Pretty cool - room has a gas fireplace and a pool. Great steak house a hew hundred yrds away. It's working a treat🙂....but what about the lonesome new pup? So, well i expect to make a move to go visiting humane and pet shops pretty soon.
I'm concerned i won't like the pup. Daughter said, "that's not possible!"
She's probably right.

As "empty nesters" we have no need for cosy hotels Stig and plenty of time getting to know each other again since my wife finished work last April. Together pretty much 24/7 now and she's not killed me yet.

Mind you that probably explains my much reduced mileage on the DTX360 this summer!
