Memorial scootering
« on: May 28, 2017, 03:56:27 PM »
Out scootering this Memorial Day w/e....before the rains.
Flags are lining the start of our parade route. This little burg does a Mem. Day parade that is largest for many, many miles around! A yearly tradition for quite some time. My VVA chapter used to march in it - until too many got so old & or fat, that they had trouble with the long hilly route. (admittedly - more than a few had gotten a 'Heart)

Nice to ride without so many layers or heated gloves!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I like you're 'in town' shots Stig. I like seeing how US towns away from the biggest cities look (although I appreciate that Google Street View takes a lot of the mystery away these days). I shall take some 'in town' pics of my own I think.

I think all Stig's pics have the greatest tone to them !
A rare thing here in the arid west.

I suppose I did make a short Memorial ride, past the Vietnam Memorial here in town.
...Made a lowball offer on this retired bike, not in running condition.

I've got a friend here that has a Beamer just like that, except his blue and white and has paramedic
written on the sides of the trunk and has red flashing strobes. He rides it year round and has over 2
hundred thousand on the clock. One tough bike.

Aargh !

I know it's difficult to believe, yet I am going to pass on the bimmer.

It is a -P model which means any number of differences from a civilian model.

There is a solo seat, and the entire rear storage assembly would be lost if installing a normal tandem seat.
It is a very heavy mc.  and also, very tall, when swinging your leg over. Perhaps like a cloud at 70+, but horrid lower speeds.
At 42k, it would be very important to know if the 40k service to the trans shaft has been done, which requires removal of the trans.
(There are no records available. It was a auction bike.)
Both batteries dead/MIA. Starter defective. Seller declared it would not bump start.
Both tires almost showing the wear bars.  Not acceptable on a powerful mc !

This mc was used it's entire 42k miles for one single purpose, inner city acceleration and pursuit, by an operator with that goal as primary focus.

After watching youtube channel by 'Chris Harris' on BMW Service I decided it wise not to invest Any $'s for the opportunity to pay back taxes on expired tags and current fees + insurance on top of the parts I could identify as mandatory, before I could even test ride.

All of a sudden there seem to be a lot of these bimmers available from auctions.  Craig is loaded with them from $2500 to $4k in running condition so they may be test ridden.

That money is still burning a hole in my pocket !
