2013 Agility 125 Headlight keeps going out
« on: January 24, 2013, 01:14:58 AM »
I've replaced the headlight 3 times now and each time it burns out when I rev the engine. This happens on both the regular and hi-beam channels of the headlight. Any ideas about whats causing my headlights to burn out? I'm assuming it getting to high of a voltage but don't know what parts to check to see if they've gone bad.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, do you have a wiring diagram for your scoot? I don't have the Agility 125. Looking in the Agility 50
there is only one thing it could be - regulator/rectifier. I've been reading up on this lately and they
regulate the AC as it gets to the rectifier so both AC and DC are controlled. Without that the voltage
will get too high and blow bulbs. When you change it fix all the blown bulbs before starting as it's
sensitive to load. Did you change the headlight wattage by any chance? Or add extra lighting? You
cannot do that on a system like this one...

The bulbs I've been putting in it are 12v 35/35W bulbs which is what the manual recommends. The blinkers and tail light haven't been effected by this just the headlight so its the only bulb I've touched on the scooter so far. I saw the screenshot you have and can't find that at all in my owners manual, is that from a service manual? If so can you tell me were I can get one? I have a feeling that may come in handy. Also I looked up regulator/rectifiers and found a few on ebay although i'd rather go with a more reliable store, any recommendations on a shop online that sells scooter parts?

Did the glass of the bulb crack/break.. or just burnt filaments?

Since it is a 2013 I would let the dealer deal with this problem. Electrical problems can be HARD to track down. Better to get it in and have the documented in my opinion.

The filaments in the bulbs are burning out. The Lo-beams burn out just from having the scooter running, when I switch to the hi-beam it works until i rev the engine, then it burns out.

You may have a bad stator that spikes up the AC voltage. Also check for loose connection like your ground. Loose connections also creates spikes.

I found your service manual on this page; http://www.wotmeworry.org.uk/manuals/Kymco/

You need to decode the RAR to read it though...

Hmm I extracted it and it only goes up to chapter 7...

Thanks, with a little google foo I found the entire pdf manual here. The manual says its for the 50cc although most of the stuff between the 50 and 125 are identical, at least tear down wise.

Sorry to thread resurrect, but...was this issue ever resolved? Out a new headlight in yesterday and it blew today.

Thanks everyone. We are gonna check the voltage to see if it's the rectifier. If not then we will check the lcu.

I recently replaced a filament type bulb in our Kinetic TFR with a $10usd LED bulb that is made to fit in the stock bayonet mount, from an Ebay vendor.

FAR brighter than the filament bulb... we'll see how long it lasts !  lol

Perhaps this might resolve your problem ?

It's most likely low cost and quality of components are causing spikes in your voltage sent to the bulb.
Easiest to replace the regulator with another part if you wish to go that way.
