Abs light and speedometer problems
« on: November 23, 2016, 08:54:41 PM »
Hi everybody, :D

It's my first topic on this forum! My Xciting is an 500 Ri 2011 AFI ABS.

I come to you because since a few days, I have a trouble with my 500Ri. When I start the engine, ABS light is on as normal. When I begin to ride, ABS light switch to off and speedometer is in order but a few meters or a few minutes later, light turns to on and speedo to 0! When I stop or degrease speed without using the throttle, everything turn back to ok. If I give gaz when stopped, ABS light is switching to on! an if I ride, speedometer is OFF. If I give no more gaz when riding, speedo is ok and ABS light is off!
I checked the wires form the speedo sensor and found no troubles.
I discovered that when riding and when ABS light is on and speedometer off, if I brake and push the start button as if I wanted to start the engine, light turn to off and speedo is in function also for a few minute or for few meters!
As I have no more ideas what or where to check, I expose you here these facts!!
Does anybody knows where the main frame earth is located? I want to check it or the earth connected to the dashboard.

Many many thanks for your help!!! ;)

My XC500EFI does not have abs, so I cannot comment on that, but the speedo cable seems to be quite fragile.
I had the situation where the speedo went to zero while driving.
I found the cable had broken, once in the length where it is clamped, and once in the actual sensor unit.
Some replacement cable and solder, and all is good again.

When I had my Xciting 250, the speedometer did exactly the same thing. It was the speed sensor.

A few days ago, I did check the voltage at the battery. I mesured 18V at idle position. I suspected the regulator.
Today I had made it changed and now everything function  :D. I have both speed indicator in function and ABS is active at any time. Regulator was the source of the problem!
Many thanks for your help!!!!!!

That is great that you found high voltage causing the problem! 18 volts at idle is way too high. Now between you and Forbes we all know two causes of your symptoms.
