My wife just bought a 2009 Xciting 500
« on: June 01, 2016, 06:35:09 PM »
Hi All: I own a Kymco GT300i. My wife picked-up a 2009 Xciting 500. It has 8K on her & she bought it for $2300.00 He installed a new battery, belt & rear tire. It has a couple of superficial scrapes (wasn't dumped) I think I can get most of them out with light compound/wax. It's White with a Shad 45L trunk w/ backrest. Pretty sweet deal. The upside is the guy works for my wife @ her their work. Now we can cruise together! I'm pleased.

Great news. Here is an opportunity for a side side by side comparison of performance, and reliability.

Hello. ..
You live in New England. ...are you not concerned about cold start issues with the 500?
Previous owner would have mentioned this, yes? , if it had this history?
Or is it only certain years.....or just a rare few in any event?
Seems to be a troublesome fix if, once , it appears.
Serious question....because the 500 is the KYMCO with the poorest reliability reputation with many members who don't own one.

Thanks everyone! Stig....I spoke with the seller & I mentioned the "cold start" issue (I was aware of that) It's not a problem for him. I know this guy & he works for my wife. If he had any issues, I'm sure he would mention them to us. We'll put maybe 1500 miles a year on our scoots. We're are boaters & that comes 1st. It just a toy to cruise around every now & again. Hope we have luck with her.

I figured you had the situation well in hand...but wanted to hear more about this big scoot - aside from possible troubles. ...there are too many of them out there without problems@
Also....i've seen where you live. You should be ashamed.
Scooters....boats....N.E. coastline. ..!!
I.do not think it gets a whole lot better than that!@!
But I'm sure you appreciate it all.

I was working on my scoot outside and  a guy stopped to talk. He had been around once before 6 months back.
His 500 would not start.
Just bought it too.
I really felt for him.
Anyways, the dealer could not solve it, even with a new cdi which was provided by KYMCOSA for free.
He took the scoot back and went to a bike auto electrician. This guy said it was the coil, spark to little.
Any nc24 coil will work, he says.
Anyways, update to follow as the job is being done tomorrow only.

This is great, another riding buddy!

So I take it you can go into an auto parts store and ask for a nc24 coil and they'll have it and know what it is?

Yes, I mentioned that part/item number to a guy behind the counter at a bike shop and he said, "oh, that is  a coil for  a single cylinder engine "

Stig: You're too funny & observant. I've owned 4 Kymco's & hopefully she won't give us trouble. Live could be worse that's for sure. I love Cape Ann, only if we could squeeze another 6 weeks of summer (that's my only gripe) I took her for a 15 mile spin yesterday. She rides BIG! I prefer my GT300i to be honest. Something about sitting upright & those 16" tires.
