Need input on Xciting 250

Hello everyone. I am looking for my next scooter. I have settled on a 250cc bike. I determined this because the 250 is easier to maintain and cheaper to own than the larger displacement scooters. My requirements are that it needs to get 65 mpg and can cruise at 70 mph.
I am currently looking at a Honda Helix or Reflex but I really like the look and size of the Xciting 250. I am a little over 6 feet and have long arms and legs. Can anyone give me an idea how a non fuel-injected Xciting compares? I currently own a Kymco and I really like the brand.

Don't know about the non fuel injected version. But my fuel injected version gets about 65 mpg when driven a sustained 60-65 mph. When driven 70, mileage drops to as low as 55 on occasion. It will sustain 70 mph. But that's at or above redline. The scooter doesn't seem in a strain at 70. But I just don't like running it in the red zone for long periods of time.

I hope I've gotten my belt issue taken care of with a new belt.

If you want to be cruising at 70miles, perhaps you should be looking at xcting 300...

They never sold the Xciting 300 in the USA . The only ones ever sold here were the 250 and the 500.

I could get an Xciting 500. The price on them is very low for what you get. But it does not get the mileage I desire and there is that cold starting issue with them. From what I understand, a well running Helix will cruise at 70. A well running Reflex will cruise at 70. I wanted to know how an Xciting 250 would compare. It does seem that 300cc would be the ideal size for me, but out of reach price-wise. I am too tall for a used Downtown and the People GTI's are out of my price range. (I would LOVE to have the People GTI otherwise.)

In my opinion, if they stretched the downtown out just a little, it would be perfect. Or if they offered a 300 or 400 cc version of the Xciting that would be nearly perfect too. The Xciting 250 is just a TAD underpowered. The 500 is just a little too much. And the mileage drop is excessive.

A German Guy on zzip.de forum says he sorted the cold start issue (even in winter)  with a dc booster giving extra power to the ECU.
Google translate extension in chrome will automatically translate each page.
So go check it out if you want this solution.
I also have some practical info on the application of the solution,provided by a ZA forum electrical fundi .

Thanks for the info Forbes. That is what I thought but I was hoping I was wrong. I really like the Xciting 250. I have the same sentiment about the 500 that you do. Xsel I appreciate it but I just don't want to purchase a scooter with a built-in problem I have to deal with. Thanks to you both! Looks like I may be going Honda in the future.

A couple of things to consider about the Helix and Reflex.  If you are planning to do highway riding, both of these scooters are lighter than the Xciting 250.  Both are also faster that the Xciting.  However the Reflex has a dead zone for acceleration between about 25 to 40 mph.  The Helix is way more comfortable than the Reflex on a long ride.
Both the Reflex and Helix have significantly smaller wheels than the Xciting as well.  In the Helix's case this means that the Helix goes through rear tires like they are donuts.  In the end, all 3 are nice bikes and you should buy what you like - they will all reward you with a fun ride.  The Reflex is the sportiest, but can get tiring on the highway.  The Helix is the most comfortable, but least maneuverable due to it's long wheelbase.  I feel the Xciting is the compromise between the two Hondas.

Thanks Bleys. The Reflex dead zone can be fixed with the "K-mod" I don't think it would be wise for me to get the Xciting. I am not confident it could withstand a constant 70 mph cruising speed. I am disappointed.

If your heart is set on the XC 250, only lack of money will stop it from going faster.
I am talking mods like Malossi variators, hit clutches, sliders instead of rollers, nology ignition parts, and the like.
I,  in  this respect, am currently out of the market, because everything has an import exchange rate of between 16-21:1,  but you don't have this issue so it is much more affordable to tweak your ride for speed.

 Mine tops out at 74mph. No way would I consistently run one at 70. You really need to look in the 300-400 range if you want to maintain 70 plus.
