Brake replacement question
« on: July 16, 2009, 07:03:05 AM »
My 2008 Kymco Grand Vixta 250 has 5558.4 miles on it at the time of this writing. I'm about to replace the tires due to normral wear (the rear already has no tread except for chicken strips).

I just looked at my front brake pads and they're down to 9mm thick. I couldn't get a real good look at the rear pads due to the way my bike is built and lack of a small mirror at my present location, but I think they're about the same.

My question is at what point should brake pads be replaced? Wondering because if they're close to needing replacement anyway, I might as well have them replaced at the same time as the tires rather than the inconvienience of my bike being in the shop twice and the labor chrges for two seperate jobs.

The manual says they are servicable down to 3.0 mm, below that they should be replaced.  When you take your bike in for tires, they will let you know if pads are needed.
