picked up some nasty scratches on the fly screen
« on: April 02, 2026, 09:24:37 PM »
feel them w/ fingernail - that deep.
NOT a cracked windscreen - just something swiped acrost the plexi to scratch it.
First noticed on the ride out the other morning - when having coffee in Y.S. and looking at photos I took of the headlight beam.
WTHeck?

Anyway - I bought some Meguiar's PlastX and will take a shot at buffing some of this out.
I suspect a family member got a little too close with the metal leaf rakes in the past few days.
No - I'm not going to mention it - at this point it's Hx.
It's a scooter - not a Stradivarius.

60W /high - At my cruising speed, in the dark, in the rain, in deer country - this light gives me enough time to make a tuna sandwich before I hit anything. Both beams are wonderfully focused.

Not neccessarely keyed or purposedely scratched.
Can't judge from pic. My XC 300 had a screen looking like raked over, but was from sun exposure AND wrong detergent

Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

so we have ourselves a mystery! I can't imagine that a replacement screen for the Liberty would be very expensive? If you can feel those scratches with your nails I doubt buffing will do much to it. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Yeah Randy,
Think you're right.
Keyed. A few swipes.
Looking back at photos - early Feb, 2026, is when they first appeared.

It is a mystery to me because
1) scooter is only out of my sight for 15 mins or so while I'm grousing in Dino's with the Liars Club. - and there are never many people around in Y. S., at 6:45AM. Nothing else is open for business.
2) spends its days behind a garage day, otherwise.

So?
Not spending $230 for another!
Coincidence > one day later wife comes home from an Easter Egg hunt with 2 of my 34 offspring.... someone clipped her pristine gold Chevy in the church parking  lot. Nice 9" dent and scraped paint above L R tire.

I'm thinking "a meteor storm", or...

As Roseanne Annadana used to say, "it's always sumthin!"

$230 USD for a replacement screen?? I didn't see that coming...what do they think it is, a Vespa?  ;D

Bummer about your wife's car. It sounds like a hit and run...no one took responsibility?  That repair will cost a lot more than you think it should. I don't understand how people can run into your car and then just drive away as if nothing happened.

Actually, I think it paid about $269 for it in 2017. On sale today for $210.

I wasn't really serious when I threw the keys in.  I had a freshly painted car keyed once, full length, ended up repainting that side of the car ('72 Vega)

So here I'd be expecting the third such incident of damage...  (My dear old Mum used to break a matchstick to make it the three!)

Hey Stig,

Have you tried a ceramic paste or coating on it? might help against future scratches

When the garage warms up - will try this stuff.
Maybe ease some of it - no great expectations.

If that doesn't work, or you have some around, hit it with some Plexus.
Stuff isn't cheap, & it's kinda rank when applied, but I've had reasonable success on scratches on windscreens.
Didn't obviate them or buff them out of course, but did clear them aesthetically to an extent.

Thanks.
The scratches only bother my pride - they don't bother my vison, at all. Heck, I rode for weeks and never noticed them - until looking at a photo taken through the screen!
