out & about in a car
« on: March 06, 2026, 08:45:48 PM »
I think she's counting her fingers........

Sun setting under Young's Jersey Dairy* sign...

A little fast for my tastes.....but it's a 70mph road

I like this shot out the hotel window...

With a little luck, will get out for a scooter ride tomorrow.

* Young's ranks as one of the most visited family destinations in Ohio. A farm near Yellow Springs since 1869. Corn mazes, wagon rides, cows and goats, ice cream, batting cages, driving range, putt-putt, restaurant, Xmas tree lot, a new covered carousel, etc. Space for mega Jeep, car and truck shows. Wool festivals, etc. Every kid in 50 miles has had a school outing there!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Neil, is there a close European equivalent to our Midwestern USA climate? Take Stig's Ohio, for example. Hot, cold, heavy snowfall, storms...is Germany / Poland close? Southern part of Scandinavian countries?

Cant think of one Hawk - I guess some of those you've mentioned or maybe Alpine areas?  I know a lot of the UK's weather systems originate over in N America and get blown over here by the jet stream, but mostly moderated by passing over the Atlantic - there's a reason Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle!

Not Neil but me, yes Austria and northern Hungary maybe.
Lived in the eastern part of Austria close to hungarian border.
Had springs and summers with plus 35°C and winters down at minus 25°C with snowdrifts of some meters in the flats.
As a commuter by train I had to lean forward 30 degrees to battle icy winds to reach the station, brrrrr... goosepimples only from thinking of.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

I'd be long dead if I had to live in mid-west USA!  I don't have anything like the clothes you need to get through the winter!  Do you have snow-mobiles? Here in western Canada we didn't even have snow this year.  I don't bother with snow tires, and ride my Kymco all through the year. I leave my Kymco outside all winter, except if it gets down to freezing, and then I bring it into the house so it starts easily in the morning :-)

we typically don't have a snow cover through the Winter, either. This year (in Iowa - central, upper mid western USA) we had heavy snow early, in late November and early December. Then nothing until March. We did have plenty of cold weather, though. I rarely wear a winter coat in winter, usually just go with a lighter weight jacket. My car is in my garage and if we go anywhere we park fairly close and walk for maybe a few minutes? It never seems too cold.

Not many snowmobiles (or snow machines for our far Northern friends) around here. Seems to be more of a Minnesota, Wisconsin thing?
