XCiting 300iR, CVT/ rear drive face / clutch renewal
« on: September 20, 2025, 06:35:02 PM »
Couple of weeks ago I had to repair my trusted XCs driveshaft bearings.

Things went well until a few days ago, when a metallic "clickety- clack" became audible at its rear CVT area. Not that dominant but constantely during idle and decellerating.

Well, CVT opened, listened, it came from inside or behind the clutch.
- clutch out and disassambled
- first suspects, clutch spring coils, were in place and good order
- roller bearing, small ball bearing and oilseals renewed
- completed and noise still there
- everything apart again

- SHORT STORY:
- this three guide pinions which make the drive face move on its boss, were AXIAL worn out for about 1/2 mm, so they moved sideways and caused this clicking sound/noise (pls see last pic for detail).

A new drive face assy was ordered, which set me back for a €95,- which is not that much but...
Smooth running at all rpms as it should be.

So, if you face a sound / noise like this from your rear CVT/CLUTCH, it might be drive face related.
I think this would have lasted another 10 or 20 K klms but better to have it mended.

amazing work, again, from the Master!  How many km's are on the scoot, Ruffus? Impressive that you heard the noise and then were able to track it down to the source and get it replaced. Most would just let the noise get lost in the sea of other noises and ignore it.

..hawk, not that many, 35000 kms/ 22000 mls on the clock, don't want to grouse but previous owner simply didn't do any check except oilchange and cleaning.
Found out by excluding, everything else had been already changed.

What could/should original owner have done to prevent this?
2014 BV 350  "IndiGO" (fast, strong and tireless)
2006 Honda Rebel 250  "Snow Leopard" (stealthy, agile and durable)
2018 Lance Cali Classic 200i  "Black Panther" (smooth, nimble, quiet and quick)
2016 Wolf V-50 (sold)

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here

MB,
change of belt, clutch and in between maybe a good smear of grease into this pinions. Might not have prevented this completely but could have, since it'ts the first time I saw such a demage.

That's some impressive sleuthing / diagnosis Ruffus!  Glad you managed to track it down and resolve.
