2016 Kymco Xciting 400i

Howdy all?

I recently found a nice 2016 Kymco Xciting 400i in very good shape with about 19k miles on the clock. It has a tall windshield and a nice top case. The owner is asking for $3800. I was able to get it down to $3500. This scooter is in Morocco where bikes are taxed in an insane way.
I also am eyeing a nice 2009 Kawasaki KLR 650 with only 8000 miles on the clock. The owner of the KLR wants $5000.
Anyway, how good is a 2016 Xciting 400i with 19k miles on the clock? Is that too much? How many miles can I hope to put on it in the next few years? I plan on doing mostly city and very light touring with it.
I currently live in a suburb of Chicago and am planning to retire to Morocco in a few years. I have maintained all my bikes since the mid 1990s when I caught the motorcycles bug . As long as I have a service manual, or if I can find a how-to YouTube video, I can fix the small stuff and do all the maintenance myself.
Can I expect several years of good service from this Kymco scooter? Should I go with the simpler KLR-650 that is carburated and has been in production since the 1980s?
Any input is highly appreciated.

Generally Kymcos prove to be well engineered and reliable, but then, so are Kawasakis!  I think either would fit the bill, but you have to decide which you prefer to live with!

Hi,

Can you do some light touring on a Kymco Exciting 400i scooter? The one I am considering has a large top case. I don't plan on going crazy on the road. Maybe 50 or 55 mph for 3 or 4 hours each day. Taking breaks each hour.
Is this scooter suitable for such a thing? Did anybody do so before on a Kymco scooter ?

The answer is absolutely YES!
Couple of days ago did some touring with two friends of mine here in nordern Italy.
One had a HONDA Africa Twin 1250 with  automatic gear the other had a HONDA X-ADV 750 same features.
 I drove my trusted XCiting 300R and didn't have any disappointments, neither from speed nor from performance.
Going twice a year to Croatia to tour islands, daily about 300 kms, relaxing on this scoot, with low fuel bill of 3.2 ltrs/100 kms.
Your 400 is even more agile handled right.

You just helped make a hard decision. I will buy the Kymco exciting 400i. I will mostly do urban riding or go to the beach. I will also do light touring by the Mediterranean coast. I will be beach hopping and stay for a few days when the mood strikes.

Well, if you are able to do basic technical work, this XC 400 is a good ride.
Please check whether belt (at 15.000 kms)
 -rollers (better Dr.P's)
 -rear wheel bearing (especially when used close to the coast)
- clutch
and
 -muffler are in good shape or already changed.

All this things, except muffler, are not expensive but esentiell for reliance.
The small wheels exclude extended off road use, except a short gravel road sometimes.

Depends WHO and HOW it was treated during this 20k mls. Also environment and continent makes a difference.

 BUT: basically NO, under normal circumstances like, shop or owner care, regular oil and cleaning job.
At 20k should be a belt and CVT/clutch service.
