Got corrosion?
« on: April 15, 2017, 12:56:38 AM »
Karl, or somebody else, probably already mentioned that we should be using this stuff to prevent & halt corrosion on our scooter metal.....

but I don't remember, so:

Was cleaning fan filter and renewing gear oil on my Burgman and found unwanted corrosion on unpainted and some painted frame areas.

Talking with Suzuki guys & they recommended I clean the areas as well as possible and spray on ACF-50.
I ordered a can from ebay (fast & free ship) and plan on using it on the Burgman, the LIKE and the CB500x.
Wish I'd had it when I had the LIKE's rear wheel off - could have sprayed a lot of stuff back, down, there.

Tell you the truth - the LIKE200i gets ridden more often than the Burgman - but the Burgman shows much more corrosion. They both get cleaned as often - and I do not ride over wet or dry salted roads. (I replaced those 3 oil filter Burgman bolts with clean ones from my Kymco spares --- from the parted out wrecked LIKE on eBay. 3 of those tiny Suzuki bolts cost @ 30% of what those lbs of Kymco hardware cost!)

a couple of the many ACF-50 youtubes .....

Was thinking it might have been you, the ol' Aviator.......stuff was invented for airplanes.
The before/after videos and photos are pretty impressive. And motorcycle and atv guys seem to really like it.
I think of the Burgman as being not quite 2 yrs old...but it is 4 yrs old, sat at dealer for 2 yrs before I  bought it as a NOS 2013. A rare recent yr that offered two colors. Dealer had both in stock at $2500 off local price for a '15.
Will post pix...after the drive-by squirting.

WD-40 is not a protection against rust or a lubricant, it's a freeing agent, the WD actually stands for "water disperser" and the 40 is it was their 40th recipe before they perfected the solution.
WD-40 also breaks down grease and oil, so when ever you use it you must re-grease or oil the component.
