Pads to improve front brake?
« on: May 23, 2012, 06:47:04 PM »
Has anyone tried any kind of performance pad, if there is such a thing to improve the front braking on a Downtown?  When I practice fast stops I seem to get way more braking from the rear than the front and just wondering if there is a way to beef up the front a little.  It seems lacking compared to the motorcycles I tried.

I don't want the "grab and go over the handlebars" grip, but it seems like there is a lot of room for improvement.

Does it have ABS? If so the front will be softer.

Try de-glazing your brake pads and rotor first and see of there's an improvement.

Went out and did several hard stops from about 40mph.  The last one squezed the front HARD and I guess it must be all my imagination because the stopping was abrupt.  I suppose it is possible the pads had not seated yet or had some glazing, but this stop pushed me into the bars a little.  I guess it just needs a little more force than I was used to, but the power is certainly there.

Right, the fronts take a real clamping, but that is a good thing, at least IMHO. I'd rahter know this ahead of time and not have the bike do an unintended brakie. I have though been on it hard enough from 60 MPH where you have to be sparing with the rear clamps.

To me the bike feels well ballanced. I have yet to push it where the frame flex comes into play. So far it is more than nimble enough.............

I wouldn't worry much about lifting the bike up on the front wheel during braking.. it's next to impossible to do
on the DT. It would take some amazing quality road surface and probably some racing slicks.

You'll lock up the front and have other things to worry about a lot more often.
Most scooters are like that..

Today I had my local dealer order some EBC "HH" pads for both the front and rear.  I'll post some comments about them but I am out of town until July 5th so it will be a while before I get them installed.
