How to tighten the side mirrors of a 2011 Downtown 300i?
« on: May 04, 2025, 12:28:03 AM »
Do I need a specific nut driver / socket wrench in order to tighten the side mirrors?
One side of my mirror is loose other than that it's fine. There's a spot under the rubber cover where a nut is and seems like it needs a super thin nut driver or socket to fit there and I wonder if it needs a specific nut driver or socket wrench in order to do so?
Or is there another way to do that?

I saw an old post about this topic: https://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=26304.msg187363#msg187363
I don't quite understand ET's way of doing it. If it's easier to just get the right socket or nut driver to do so just to avoid disconnecting and tearing things apart and then putting them back I would love to do so. Just to not risk it.

Here is a photo of the nut I am talking about.
I bought a set of socket hoping it'll fit but it's so tight the socket is not thin enough to fit.

Look for some tools like this (pls see pic) for the sidewalls are way thinner.

Ruffus, I have never seen a full set of those! I always associate that type tool with a sparkplug removal tool for my lawnmower.

I would guess the nut on the mirror is 10mm? I have had success using a 12 point socket when a 6 point socket is too large to fit in the hole.

hawk, yes could be a 10, 11, or 12 mm nut. Such a set is useful sometimes in tight space. Might be a specific size of a nut from KYMCOs.

If you're shopping, I think they're called box spanners (wrenches) here in the UK?

just searched on Amazon...needed to use the term 'tubular' box spanners to find these.  Plenty available if you know where to look!

I bought a set of tubular box spanners specifically this one:
https://www.amazon.com/DAKCOS-Plumbers-Spanner-Wrench-Dual-Ended/dp/B0CJRB8R57/ref=sr_1_1?sr=8-1

But then none of them fit. I think it's between 9 and 10, 9 is not big enough to fit the nut, but 10 is too big and doesn't fit.

Also is there a guide, video, or photos with step by step instructions on how to tighten the side mirrors? Do I have to remove the covers of the handle to get to the bolts that hold the side mirrors?

I find that both axles shown on the picture I drawn, both are loose. I think the nut I showed in my original post tightens the x axis, which I am still figuring out how to tighten it.
There is another nut that tightens the y axis but I don't know where it is.

Just wanted to give an update in case if anyone in the future have the same problem and stumbled upon this thread.
Turns out I don't have to deal with this nut at all.
There are two silver nuts that you have to tighten along the rod to tighten the two axis that rotates the mirror.
The nut size is 14mm.
The rod size is 17mm.
So you just need these two wrenches and you should be able to adjust and tighten the mirror with ease.
