Super 8 / Re: How do I derestrict a 2017 Kymco Super 8 50 2T?
« on: May 23, 2018, 11:49:36 PM »
Search this forum for the word derestrict and you'll find what you need.  I think on a 2017 all you need to change is the variator boss. The CDI should already be good.

With the boss changed, you should be able to go around 40 mph.

What exhaust mod did you do?  If you opened the airbox, you need to put in a larger main jet or risk blowing up your scooter.

People 50 / 17mm Dellorto PHBG install on People 50
« on: May 22, 2018, 08:20:46 PM »
I bought a 2007 People a few years ago and have never been able to get it to start and run properly.  You can search my posts for more details.  I finally threw in the towel a couple of years ago. Didn't even try to work on it or ride it last year.

I decided to go after it again this summer and ordered a new carb and all the goodies to get it installed.

Since I'm sticking to 50cc, I decided to not go up to 19mm.  I have a Technigas Trek pipe on it. When it runs well, it revs up to 9200 rpm pretty easily.

Decided I'd document my install here.

I've ordered the AU262 two stroke atomizer for it and a range of main jets from 70 - 96.

I'd like to stick with the stock airbox with the snorkel cut out if there's an easy way to seal it to the Dellorto. Chime in if you know how to do that.

I'm not sure where to start with the main jet. I see 70cc kits with various air filters running from 83 to 94 jets. I'm in Denver at 5300 feet elevation, so I need to keep that in mind. But if 83 works for a 70cc, I'll probably start a couple of sized below that, maybe an 80.

I ordered a Trail Tech TTO CHT to check head temperatures. I'm sort of a geek as far as wanting more info.

Also ordered a choke cable so I can run a pull choke.

Carb will take a few weeks to get here. More to come.

Can you provide a link to the carb you bought?

No matter which carb you bought, you will have to change jets to get it to run best with your scooter.

Like the subject says, do I have to replace the throttle cable to get enough throw if I replace my stock carb with a 17mm Dellorto PHBG?

From reading other posts, it seems like maybe it's required for the 19mm or larger.

Anyone have experience with this?

I'm thinking about going with an Arreche carb to make the install easier, but it sounds like the PHBG will be easier to tune and get better gas mileage.

I'm surprised no one responded. Search the forum on "restrictions" and you'll find the info you need. There's a white you can cut on the cdi for more rpm on older Kymcos and there's a restricter boss on your variator that needs to be removed. Search and you will find

People 50 / Re: Stock Carb and Auto Choke is a POS.

if it's a 2 stoke this page, some of these are gonna be straight plug and play, some are going to need a manual choke, if everything else is still stock no need to go for a bigger carb so you can just grab one that will work with the electric choke. This site also has parts for a four stoke if you look around.
I'm basically in the same boat. I'm tired of having to constantly work to get it to start cold and hot. I can get it to do one but not both. The auto choke just stinks.  Any of those carbs on the link that you'd recommend over the others?

People 50 / Re: De-Restricting my 2009 People 50 - Exhaust Question
« on: November 16, 2017, 04:46:12 AM »
Hey all -

I read a couple threads about doing this, and it was suggested that the exhaust pipe on a 2002 People 50 would be less restrictive.  Is it correct it may not have a catalytic converter in it?  I found another scooter I can buy for parts, and it's a 2003.  I wonder if that would also work to put on my 2009 for a less restrictive exhaust.  Anyone know if the 2003 exhaust pipe is less restrictive than the 2009?

Thanks!
You would get a lot more power of you bought an aftermarket exhaust with an expansion chamber. Something like a Silent Sport would make the scooter a lot more powerful for not a lot of money

People 50 / Re: People 50 2t gear oil drain
« on: April 12, 2017, 07:21:34 PM »
Good afternoon Kymco Think Tank.    Will you kindly tell me where the gear oil drain is on a 2007 People 50?   I don't see it.  Please tell me how much gear oil goes back in.  Thank you.  AB
You can see the plug in the middle of this photo I believe you just fill it until it's as the level of the plug

Also if you want more power without loud exhaust, the Tecnigas Silent Pro or Silent Sport would give you quite a bit more power than the stock exhaust.

Super 8 / Re: NO POWER UPHILL - 2015 Super 8R Road Scooter

So got it back from the shop.  Good news and not sure news.

So he replaced the big spring with a 1500rpm one and said that didn't do anything positive and felt all along it should have been a 1000 rpm one so he changed it to that.  Changed rollers to 3.5g rollers.  Changed the variator boss to a smooth one.  Adjusted the valves.  Removed the restriction washer from the intake tube.  Said compression is fine.  That's all he did.

Results:  A fair amount faster on flat ground.  ;D Took it out on open road with my GPS and it got up to 40 best I could tell so that'll help when traveling in a 45 mph zone as long as a cop doesn't catch it in a radar.  32 mph is NC limit without a license.  I can tell it maintains its speed better uphill but still seems to slow to 15-20 mph which obviously beats 5-10 mph before I took it in.  Maybe that's to be expected being that I weigh 190 lbs.  Son weighs 165-170 so that ought to help some.  It for sure is better though climbing a hill than before.

The not so sure news is that the throttle is not smoothly responsive.  If I open it fully it doesn't bog down but doesn't max out like I expected it would.  ??? Sorta gotta close the throttle a bit to get it to keep accelerating and then not see much difference in wide open throttle if that makes sense.  Was expecting the throttle to gradually increase the speed as I gradually open it on flat ground but that doesn't seem to be the case.  Mechanic advised to not mess with the jets or that I'd be back in there.  I recall reading somewhere where the main jet doesn't actually kick in until the last 1/4 or so of the throttle and that's where I feel like its limited.  Not sure what to do about that unless that's just a characteristic of a 49cc unrestricted scooter.  I assume I've unrestricted it to the extent it can be.  He said a big bore kit would be next if what he did didn't provide the result I was expecting.

Like I say, it does way better on flat ground and a fair amount better on a hill.  Just wondering about the lack of smooth throttle response as I slowly open it up.  Comments/suggestion?  Thanks guys for your advice/direction so far as I try and figure this out.  ;)  Will post on general discussion side too and see if any ideas from over there.

Because he removed the restriction on the intake, you must increase the jet size at least a little. More air needs more fuel. That's probably why it's not acting up on full throttle.

Regarding the hills, that's probably all the better it's going to go uphill with 190 pounds on it. It will be a little better with a lighter rider on it. My wife has a 50cc Honda and it moves right up the hills with her 135 pounds but slows down quite a bit with my 180.

Even my People 50 with a race pipe slows down quite a bit on hills and it has a lot more power. These little engines just don't make much torque.

You'll probably have to put lighter weights in the variator for better performance on the hills.

$800 was a good deal for the People with that mileage. Once the weather gets nicer, the prices go up. That are very nice scooters especially for tall folks

I'm tempted to start throwing ideas out there, but need do more info from you. Did it hesitate as soon as you went full throttle?
