General Discussion / Re: Earthquakes and scooters
« on: March 29, 2014, 04:20:42 AM »
CRAP!!!. A second much larger quake just hit an hour later. In the same area near my house. The house shook. The Windows rattled. The scooter did not fall. The first one was only a 3.6 initially. This one is at least a 5.3. It sounds ridiculous that as I am seeing electrical transformers lighting up, I am running to my scooter. How silly.
This size quake is normally not a concern. Not a big quake but I am a new scooter owner.

So I was sitting in the living room watching t.v., and a small earthquake hit. My first reaction was to run into the garage and check if my scooter had fallen over. It was O.K. The quake was close by and shallow. There were just two jolts.
This was my scooters first quake. It got me thinking, what is the best way to keep your scooter from falling over when the ground is bouncing up and down?
Had the quake been bigger, it could have bounced and fallen over.  I don't have quake insurance on the scooter.

To repeat CROSSBOLTs sentiments, thank you all. I knew nothing about KYMCO until I started reading   this forum. After my long ride today on my new toy, I washed her up. Afterwards, she wouldn't start. I panicked, thinking I wet something important. Then.... I remembered what I have read so many times here......CHECK THE KILL SWITCH FIRST.. I felt foolish, yet relieved that it had been drilled in by so many posts. Thank you all, as I am having a blast.

Rode to Long Beach this morning by streets, keeping the speed down. It is about 20 miles to Alamitos Bay Marina. I cruised the beach roads and ended up by the Queen Mary. I had lunch and returned home. A great ride.
I have always taken the freeway if I was going any distance. It is a lot different when the goal is the journey and not the destination. There were quite a few scooters in this area. They have a very active scooter club in Long Beach. It turned out to be about 55 mile round trip after all of the side trips.

Oh, I don't know....I've seen prettier Kymco's..... ;)

Stig, I was torn between the blue/black and the LX. After seeing what you have done with yours, I chose the LX. You have taken some great pics. I love the chrome and the badges.

After a few weeks of looking, I brought her home from the dealer today. I cleaned her up and cruised the neighborhood. This machine is everything I heard it was. I can't ride too far. Still need license, MSF class, and insurance. I had to work on keeping the speed down for the break in.

General Discussion / Re: Price add ons. Sticker shock?
« on: March 06, 2014, 12:49:03 AM »
Thank you all for your information. There seems to be a pattern with lot of dealers in So Cal to charge these extreme add ons. I have been to a few so far and called a couple more. Some are willing to negotiate, while others are blaming the manufacturer for low profit margins. They are stating they are the reason for the add ons. I will not deal with those, as I see it as a cop out for their poor sales skills. Also, the internet seems to want to tar and feather some of these dealers.

The beauty is that the prices seem to drop the further I get from the coast.
I checked out another dealer today. I felt comfortable with them. Although they had a big selection of different manufacturers, they let me make up my own mind with every one I looked at.
I will be buying soon. I have gained a lot more confidence in dealing with motorcycle shops since I started looking. I had never dealt with motorcycle dealers before this.
I have talked to some good people at a couple shops. This process is becoming fun. I will get my scooter at a fair price.

General Discussion / Price add ons. Sticker shock?
« on: February 22, 2014, 04:25:53 PM »
I am still in the research stages of scooterdom. I joined the forum to learn more. I was working down the street from two scooter/ motorcycle shops yesterday. I looked at the LIKE 200 and was knocked back by the add ons. The tag on the bike showed the Base price $2699.00, shipping/freight $798.00, Dealer prep $697.00. The Shipping and Prep fees seem excessive.
The BUDDY dealer across the street only charged a total add on of $425.00 dealer prep.
I didn't speak to a salesperson about the price, I just thought that was a high starting price. Is this normal?
It seems that I need to shop around to different dealers in the area.
