Technical | How To / Intermitten Like problem
« on: June 07, 2020, 01:17:04 AM »
2013 Like 200 LX. Long story.  14k miles.
Original symptoms: After a nice run, i was stopped at a light, the idle dropped and stumbled. When the light changed, i gunned it and the bike died. Started and it did the same. After blipping the throttle several times to take off, it all went back to normal. This happened several times that day, and still happens.
I started getting a CELP code of 6, which is a battery or charging system problem. I installed a new Yuasa battery, as it had the original tired battery. Problem persisted. I have gotten to the point of being able to  create the problem on the road but not at home.
It happens usually after a high speed run. (Over 45 mph).
NOW: I get a CELP code of 11, which according to the Cyclepedia manual, is a bad ignition coil.  The problem will occur even when there are no CELP codes. I followed the troubleshooting instructions for checking the primary of the coil. The manual states it should be .65 - .675 ohms. My meters only read to tenths, it reads .7 ohms. (Digital meter, I dropped the Simpson from a ladder years ago)  I do not understand the instructions for checking the coil secondary. It is sealed with the exception of the spark plug wire.
I have removed most of the plastics to check every connection i see. Maybe it is the coil, but i hate being a parts changer. Any help on the coil troubleshooting would be helpful.

I have experienced this on both my LIKE and Smax. Tire pressure too low or too high. Also, it will not track true when the tires are wearing unevenly.

I got about 8000 miles on the original rear Kenda. It was beyond the wear marks. I replaced the tires 2 years ago when it actually rained more than a few days in the season. I have about 5k on the Michelin City grips that i replaced them with. No signs of wear yet.

Thats funny. I bought spare air filters shortly after buying the scooter. I may change it just in case it starts getting brittle from age.

General Discussion / Re: Super Cub - Coolest bike I've seen in years!

I butt tested the Super Cub last year at the Long Beach Motorcycle Show. I made vroom, vroom noises. It's a little small, and with the single seat, it is a little cramped. I would love to try one out though.

There used to be a guy on this forum that was a Kymco mechanic in Oregon. His screen name escapes me at the moment. He mentioned that the People 250 and 250S both had issues with this. I believe that it was mostly when he would try to go hands free. Do a search on the subject. I do not remember the details.

General Discussion / Re: Stig - 6 years a law breaker!
« on: June 30, 2019, 04:56:25 PM »
My S&S modular helmet does not seal well  causing unbearable wind noise directly into my ears. I recently bought a Shoei full face helmet that is much quieter. I can hear the wind noise, but is not  infiltrating directly into my head. I have worked around loud compressors and machines most of my life. When I was younger, I rarely wore hearing protection. I almost always wear some form of hearing protection now when I am in a machine room. I still wear the foam plugs with the new helmet, as I believe they will lessen my chances of further hearing loss

I don't know if it against the law or not here in the Peoples Republic. I wear them when I ride. I can hear people talking, although it's muffled. They do not keep out sirens or car horns. I wear the foam plugs from HD or Walplace. I know there is a law regarding wearing ear buds. They say you can only wear one when driving. That makes sense since music can drown out everything else, at least the way I play it.

General Discussion / Re: why Honda body panels so low priced ?
« on: June 20, 2019, 06:51:45 PM »
When i dumped my Yamaha SMAX, the 3 replacement panels cost only $100.00 total. I recently looked at a Honda Silver Wing with some scarred up panels. I looked up the cost for replacements. They were a lot more than i expected, roughly $600.00 for 3 panels. It is an out of production scooter. That may be the reason.

I am not a huge fan of the Xtown, as my Smax is somewhat close to it in performance. However, at that price, I would not hesitate to buy it.

General Discussion / Re: Couldn't help laughing at him....

Yeah, i dont get the loud music thing. I understand the "Loud pipes save lives" arguement.. i am on the fence with it, but that is me. The music blaring is just rude, especially since there are new many new bluetooth helmet options for listening that are not being inflicted on others. I does solidify the bias against cruiser bikes (HD).
Disclaimer:  Yes, I was a loud 70s` music lover and inflicted my music on the world. I was a teenager, and as such, i had no regard for anyone else. Now I still listen to the same music (Physical Graffitti )when i ride my bicycle or the walking machine, but i have ear buds so my wife doesnt laugh at me.

They will say "everything is fine. Nothing to see here".
From what i understand, they had a shake up in their offices. They spent the money to bring over the 400i, then dropped it after a year, even going so far as to remove the owners manual from their website. Removed any trace of it.. Why have so many dealers dropped them? I do not have a lot of confidence with them at the moment..

I don't know. I really dont know. It sucked. A lot. All day. I stopped to help. I couldn't. Ride safely.  Put down the phone.

Your trip review of the XTown is making me think about it more, since they dropped the 400i. It is definitely a good looking ride.
