zx50 / Re: Kymco zx50 super fever 50-60 mph free modification
« on: December 07, 2013, 09:58:56 AM »
The bike has had a few gentle miles done on it now since the top end rebuild, the mixture was richened off for a period of time but last week it was leaned back off. When I did the ecu splice, I fitted a switch so that the bike could be limited again. My son obviously wants the bike to go quick, but I don't want it nipping up, so the rev limiter is back on.
Even in this state though , it is still hitting 50 mph with two people on it.
I'm thinking that a spot of speed testing could be in order this weekend

Skim your boss down a little whilst it's in bits, you'll squeeze a bit more out if it

Take your front variator apart and check the rollers for wear flats

Try just using the kickstart WITHOUT any throttle, if it won't go after a couple of dozen kicks, it's possible that the last owner might have dicked about with the carb settings.
Where are you?

If there's one fitted, it's most likely to be at the very start of the down pipe where it bolts onto the barrel. It's only two nuts at the front and one at the back. Whip it off and have a look

Lift the seat and try working some oil into the latch mechanism whilst turning the key on the side panel. Check the condition of the latch pin too on the underside of the seat

Double check your plug, remove supressor cap and refit. Gap plug to 0.9mm. Also check fuel feed pipe for kinks/nips and blocked inline filter.

Like 50 2T / Re: Idle acting funny; weather related issue?
« on: November 02, 2013, 11:20:35 PM »
Recently the like has been acting a little funky after being started after being off for at least 30 minutes. When I go to start the bike one of two things occur:

A) Start the bike, bike idles at ~1800rpm, rev the bike, revs go up come down and hang at 4k and stay
B) Start the bike, bike idles at 4k rpm

Then I go off and ride the bike and the problem seems to fix itself after some time. Idle will return to normal (~1800rpm). Just prior to fixing itself, I can hit the rear break at a stop and the 4k hang will drop back down to proper idle speed.

A couple weeks ago I installed a tach. Prior to that I had been playing with airbox, jets and idle settings for research purposes :) The newly installed tach indicated I had set my idle 300 rpm lower than stock spec (1850 +/- 100 rpm) So I fixed that and all was well.

Zee Background information:
Stock carb with autochoke
I adjusted the proper idle speed in about 75 F (21 C) weather.
Currently it is about 45 F (4 C) weather.
I never played with the air screw, it is still at its stock setting and is adjustable
I have the stock airbox, 88MJ and Tecnigas exhaust

So in summary, the idle is high (~4k), when riding and stopping idle goes to the 4k, when it gets better (after some time) the rear brake will force the bike to return to correct idle, after a little bit more time the problem goes away. Any ideas??

Side note: The 4k idle is right below when the clutch engages so a very light twist of the throttle and Im on my way! It has made the issue a little bit more fun :)

This sounds normal. The bike has an auto choke which appears to be doing its job correctly. By giving more fuel to a cold engine, you would expect it to tick over higher than when the engine has reached running temperature. Put the air screw back to its original setting I say

Clean and gap your plug to 0.9 mil.
Fire the bike up and take it on a run to get it hot. Bring it home and put the centre stand in a chock of wood to lift the rear wheel clear from the ground.
The carburettor has two screws
The large one for idle speed and a small one for air mixture.
With the bike running turn the idle screw fully clockwise.
The engine speed will increase and the back wheel will spin.
Next turn the small (air) screw fully clockwise (which will block the air off)
Quickly turn it counter clockwise one full turn.
This will prevent the engine from stalling due to air starvation.

Now, here's the important bit!
Continue to turn the air screw counter clockwise in half turns as you listen to the engine.
The aim here is to make the bike rev as high as possible.
Pause for up to twenty seconds between adjustments to listen.

Eventually you will let too much air in and the revs will drop, at this point turn the air screw clockwise to build the revs up.
Once you find the spot where the engine is revving its highest, turn the air screw a quarter turn clockwise to slightly richen the mixture.

Then put your screwdriver back into the other (idle screw hole) and turn it counter clockwise until the engine is just ticking over normally

Your mixture is now set. Any future adjustments to idle speed will only involve the large screw

If there's a washer in your exhaust , it ll be where it bolts onto the head.
Follow my guide on here and you ll hit over 50 mph

Sounds like you might need a new battery.

Vitality 50 / Re: Kymco Vitality 50 fuses

Can anyone help me with why there are two fuses coming off the battery one in the positive line that is a quick blow type and one in the negative line that is a slow blow type.  My knowledge of electricity says you only ned one and it is usually in the positive line.  Also I should add that the electric start does not work, I can kick start the bike and it runs well.
Treat yourself to a new battery, before your regulator rectifier fries trying to charge a battery that's clearly not working

Hi everyone, just got a zx 50 super fever, very happy with it except it is hard to start with button, starts fine with kick starter ?
Battery seems good, removed and cleaned spark plug, kicked it over with plug out, heaps of spark ?? weird !

Try gaping your plug to between 0.9 and 1mm
