Technical | How To / Help! My spark plug keeps blowing out!
« on: March 13, 2016, 04:24:00 PM »
Hello everyone. I bought my Kymco People 150 used and I noticed when I changed the plug that it just didnt feel "right" when I hand threaded it in no matter what I did. I was and am ultra careful threading spark plugs by hand so I was cautious about over-torquing the plug and risk stripping the soft aluminum head. I believe the plug was cross-threaded and now it will not stay in. I tried a back tap but that did not work. The only options I seem to have is either a Heli-Coil Kit or just replace the head. I am heavily leaning towards the Heli-Coil because it appears to be a simpler solution and is more importantly, cheaper than a head replacement. I would like to hear from some of you if you have ever had this issue, used the Heli-Coil kit, and any help or insight you could give me. Also what kit would I order? My plug is a 10mmx1.0 fine thread. I am really bummed right now. Beautiful weather and I cant ride. :'(

Technical | How To / Probable stripped spark plug on Kymco People 150
« on: February 22, 2016, 11:37:19 PM »
Today when I was riding home from work, my Kymco People 150 spark plug came out of its hole. My wife came and bought the couple of tools I needed and I put the plug back in and limped home. The plug does not feel as if is in solidly. I am afraid to tighten it further right now because if it is stripped, as I suspect it is, it will be completely useless. Has anyone else had a stripped spark plug socket on a GY6 150 and what did you do to correct it?

Technical | How To / Unending exhaust leak Kymco People 150
« on: February 14, 2016, 06:43:14 PM »
Hello everyone. I have an exhaust leak on my People 150 I cannot seem to get rid of. The leak is at the flange where the exhaust pipe meets the engine. I have replaced the gasket twice and it works for a short time then the leak comes back. I suspect I may be guilty of over-tightening the nuts when I put them on. I am a little worried about the nuts falling off. (I know, insert pun here:) Anyway, could over tightening the gasket cause this issue? I may be crushing it a little too much and not allowing for expansion/contraction.

People 150 / Kymco People 150 Drive Train Upgrade-itis Rant
« on: January 30, 2016, 12:45:05 PM »
I have posted this in the general discussion board, but thought my experience may be helpful here;

I purchased a 2009 Kymco People 150 a few months ago and immediately started to add parts in hopes to improve its performance and longevity. I replaced the drive belt with a kevlar one. I replaced the rear contra spring with a stiffer one. I replaced the original variator rollers with sliders. And the list goes on and on.
None of these "upgrades" improved performance one bit. In most cases the performance was worse! I have come to the conclusion that the engineers who designed the ENTIRE drive system on the Kymco People 150 know more than I do about what works best for that model. I have since replaced the drive parts with original Kymco parts and am very happy to ride and enjoy a well made and well designed machine.
I now have a newfound respect for the people that made this machine. They really knew what they were doing. Instead of upgrading, I am researching the  next scooter for me when the time comes. It will have a little more  cubic centimeters ;-)

General Discussion / Is drive belt vibration or oscillation normal?
« on: November 29, 2015, 01:32:20 AM »
I have a 2009 Kymco People 150.  My scooter belt seems to vibrate when I accelerate or cruise at mid range. I took my cover off and ran it at different rpms and it appears that my variator and clutch assembly runs true. My belt does vibrate some up and down when the front and rear pulleys are generally equal belt wise. Is this normal? Should a scooter run absolutely smooth? This is my first scooter and would like to hear from some of you more experienced riders out there. I did try a stiffer contra spring as a test. Still got the same result.

Technical | How To / People 150 headlight/tail light
« on: October 07, 2015, 09:47:34 AM »
I am upgrading my People 150 so I can be seen better.  Would it be possible for me to replace the stock 35w headlight bulb with something brighter? I would like to replace my tail light bulb with a brighter led. Can anyone tell me what is the type of bulb on a Kymco People 150? Is it a 1156 or 1157 or something else? Thanks for the help.

Technical | How To / Tires for People 150
« on: October 04, 2015, 01:16:23 PM »
Hello everyone. I recently purchased a 2009 Kymco People 150 and am looking to replace the tires. My goal, first and foremost, is to get tires that are an improvement over the current stock ones.  Do you think it would be OK to have the same size tires front and rear? I really want to have a  100/80/16 front and the stock tire is 80/80/16.  There are no 110/80/16 tires I am interested in putting on the rear and the 120 size may be too large.  Price is definitely an issue. I have a couple I am looking at. Do you think these would "play well" together?"

People 150 / Windshield for People 150
« on: September 28, 2015, 07:15:07 AM »
Hello everyone. I just purchased a Kymco People 150 and I am complete Newbie. I am 6 feet tall  and am planning on using my scooter for commuting to work 30 mile round trip. I would like to get a windshield but do not know what would work. I would like it to knock some wind off my hands (helps with cold weather) and would give me a pretty good bubble to ride in, but one that would not hurt fuel economy. Is there any brand made that would do all that? Function is first, fashion is second. Thanks.

General Discussion / Non rider wanting to purchase scooter for commuting
« on: September 25, 2015, 01:29:34 AM »
Hello all! I am a 56 year old male, I weigh 200 lbs and am 6 foot tall. I commute 30 miles round trip daily to work and would like to purchase a scooter. The roads I travel on are mostly moderately and lightly congested surface streets with a maximum speed of around 55 mph. The average would be about 45. Because of my budget, I have decided to purchase a used scooter and the Kymco line looks like a quality and reliable vehicle for me. I will be doing most of the maintenance myself. I have done all of the routine maintenance on my cars and I am not afraid of taking on a scooter. My question is, which of the Kymco models would be best for me in your opinion? I would like something to be reliable, fun, and economical to operate. I dont know if it matters, but I am not a motorcycle rider. I have ridden a road bicycle and I am a mountain biker. Thanks for any input!
