I find the best psi combo for freeway with the gv was 40 rear 35 front. If the tries are off balance they will shimmy the front end. Very slight defects in the tire will cause a shimmy. Order a set of Michelin power pure tires on Amazon, 120/70-12 & 140/70-12. Best tires hands down for the 12" setup. My gv I could go no hands down a large hill unless I had overly loaded the under seat storage area with heavy objects.

Stig, yes that's the new section of the Bay Bridge. My crash was in the undercover section of the old suspension part, from SF to treasure island. They are demoing the old section, very very slowly. It's actually much safer than most of the city streets in SF if you ride carefully and keep your distance. My crash was a total fluke, and like every crash it was something I was not expecting or looking out for. I lane split every day and cut my commute in 1/4, ~1hr in my truck and $5 toll, 15-20min on the bike and $2.50 toll. The lanes are SUPER wide here and traffic for the most part is very very good at giving you room on a bike, because every bike lane splits on the freeway especially on the bay bridge. I have found out that these 250 motors can take way more abuse than I ever thought before, I am WOT every day at about 8500 RPM for 15-20 minutes. No issues what-so-ever. Working on tons and tons of vintage scooters at San Fransisco Scooter centre and getting pretty adept at the workings of vintage Vespa and Lambretta bikes. There is a large following in SF for vintage scooters, and people actually use them not just weekend warriors. Pretty cool!

General Discussion / Re: valve cover gasket alternatives?
« on: April 11, 2016, 08:25:28 PM »
I've NEVER seen the valve cover gasket go bad on a Kymco in the 6 years I worked at the dealer. You can re-use, just put fresh engine oil on it when re-installing so it won't stick next time you do the valves.

Thanks CROSSBOLT!!! Yeah it was brutal, on the section of the bridge where there is literally ZERO shoulder. I tossed the scooter as far left as I could and got a ride home to get my pickup, in the 45 minutes it took my scooter was already in a tow lot. $400 to tow ~1mi. Oh well, scooter was free and no real injuries so I'll take that over money any day. I ride the Bay Bridge every day from East Bay to SF for work.

For Sale / Grand Vista Part out / B&L update

Howdy everyone, Bettin here. Been absent for some time. Crazy 7day work weeks make it hard to have fun and help on forums. Anyway, still down in the Bay (Berkely). Little life update; I got a free Grand Vista when I started working at San Fransisco Scooter Centre (Sweet huh?) but have since been involved in a crash on the Bay Bridge and need to part the GV out and get back on my Bet & Win. Front forks are wrecked, and I suspect triple tree and frame is bent also. Everything from the legshield back is cherry, good seat (Missing hump). Windshield is good. Headlight is good. All electrical components good. Good plastics everywhere except from. Good mirrors minus slight scratches. Good gauge cluster. I'm swapped the motor into the Bet 'n Win. I'll slowly be posting the parts on eBay but I wanted to give anyone on here first dibs. I just need to recoup my $400 tow charge for getting it off the bridge. PS I was not badly injured in the crash, felt like someone punched my arm really hard for a couple days and a large bruise on my leg from it bending the handle bars about 6" forward. I ended up sitting on the scooter upright after the crash a little confused. Anyway, PM me if your wondering if I have anything. All plastics are red.

Xciting 250 / Re: How many miles can I expect?
« on: January 25, 2016, 03:49:13 AM »
The kymco 250 engine is very reliable. Seen many upwards of 50k. Change oil with good synthetic every 2000mi. Belts every 10k and rollers. Valve adjustments every 5k.

Interesting, a blown piston like that usually comes from wayyyyyyyy too advanced ignition timing. Did you get the key in where the flywheel mates with the crank? Could have fell out and you had mystery timing.

Quannon / Re: Can I buy a Kymco Quannon 125 in the UK

That don't make the quannon anymore.

There is no switch, unfortunately the backlight uses a very very strange lighting setup. You can find more info on here use the search. Try hitting the gauge unit. Unfortunately this is a weak spot on the grand Vista I have replaced many under warranty.

General Discussion / Re: Do Kymco's have these...?
« on: November 29, 2015, 06:57:26 PM »
The only kymco I know of that have sight glass for oil are the quannon and venox motorcycle. I wish more scooters used sight glass, I like it. As for washing air filters, you want to keep moisture out of the paper. You can blow air from the back to the front and get a little extra mileage from a filter.

Grandvista 250 / Re: Overheating
« on: November 25, 2015, 03:11:47 AM »
On my GV 250 the expansion bottle is directly connected to the radiator.

Good tip as I had several overflows as air bubbled up.

B&L - do most scooters have these issues?  I never had these kind of problems with motorcycles that I worked on.

The bottle is directly connected? You mean with a hose right? The hose leading to the overflow only spits coolant when the system is pressurized past the pressure rating of the radiator cap. This is not a mural problem, but it's kinda hard to burp all the air out.

You want to fill the radiator, the overflow bottle does nothing except store coolant when the system pressurizes and expands. I usually try and burp the system by the right size funnel that fits in the smaller hole of the fill spot, that way if it bubbles up a little it has room to go up and not overflow. Regarding regular green antifreeze, try and find one that says silicate free, the seal design on these engines don't like silicate I the coolant it will shorten the life of those seals. While burping the cooling system you can also take the bleed hose off the thermostat to release trapped air, it's the small hose on the thermostat, just take it of for a few seconds until you get solid coolant with no air bubbles (careful it'll be hot) and make sure to do this with the radiator cap off.

General Discussion / Re: Bet and Win 250 Radiator issue
« on: November 21, 2015, 02:43:07 AM »
Bet and win is VERY hard to bleed all the air out. Take the small hose off the thermostat and let all the air out. Raise the front wheel and run the bike until air bubbles stop coming out. If your problem persists you might have a warped head, mine had this and I had the machine shop deck the head and been running great for 10000mi
