Xciting 250 / Xciting 250 throttle cable
« on: June 10, 2023, 04:37:45 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get a throttle cable for a 2007 Xciting 250?  If not available then something aftermarket?  Links would be appreciated.  It's been garaged for 4 years, and I've got it running, oil changed etc.  But, the throttle is really sticky.  I tried spraying lubricant but it's not really working.

Thanks

I want to thank everyone for the conversation, fellowship and help on here.  I put my bikes up for sale today, and probably won't be back to the forum.  But, I appreciate all of you.

Thank you again.

Brian

Roadcraft / Re: Motorcycle/Scooter Infrastructure

The first real motorcycle was invented in 1885, and they have not bothered with this yet, I'm not going to hold my breath.  Go to Asia and you see dedicated bike parking, but, in many Asian countries the scooter/motorcycle is the family vehicle.  Here in the states, bikes (whether they are a motorcycle, or a scooter) are considered a novelty.

It sucks, but, unless there is a VAST migration of people from cars to bikes, it is the way it is going to be.

Why are you guys using premium gas? Just for the ethanol free factor?

Because not everyone has the luxury of living in a state that has ethanol free gas.  I'm reminded of when my union tells me to boycott Walmart...My response is usually to tell them that if they want me to boycott Walmart I will when they build me a viable alternative to them.  For some reason when someone lives where they have choices, they think that everyone has those same choices.  So, to answer your question, that is why I buy premium gas and not ethanol free.

From what I've read there is very little left in the hose; certainly not a gallon.

According to the American Petroleum Institute it's about 1/3 gallon in the hose, which is still enough to dilute it.

Yes.  If your gas station has only one hose and all three grades use it, the first gallon is whatever the last person that bought gas got.  Where I buy my gas each grade has it's own hose, so when I put premium in, I know that is what I am getting.  If you want to use premium (it's what I use) then it may be worth finding a station that has a separate hose for each grade of gas at the pump.

I think that's where the problem lies. MC mechanics tend to over think these simple machines, and never really grasp the very few basic needs these "scoots" have.
They run on Non adjustable belts that must be EXACTLY right. 1mm makes a huge difference.
Rollers control the engine. Not the other way around.
1/8th of a turn in either direction on a carb adjustment means run/no run.

Very simple concept that are overlooked.

You're absolutely right.  I think that another thing that comes into play is the disdain that most motorcycle mechanics have for the scooter.  At our local bike shop (a Yamaha dealer), they refuse to work on any scooter that isn't Yamaha, and the mechanics are pretty clueless on top of that.  I went in one time and asked a question about a variator, and the mechanic looked at me and said "what's a variator?"  The sad part is, they also work on snow mobiles there, so for him to not know what a variator is, is laughable.  After I explained to him what it was he said "Oh, that's what that's called?" and then told me that they don't do that kind of work there (wanted to change the rollers and didn't have the tools myself to do it).

But, the fact that they are making and marketing working 'toys' means that there is a growing market and acceptance of scooters here in the States, which I see as a good thing.

Now we know where scooters come from.

When a mommy scooter, and a daddy scooter love each other, they give each other a 'special hug'.

Scooting...isn't that what my cat does with her butt on the carpet sometimes?

I don't see how that needs an engine or how it's going to help anybody in any way.

I said this before...
What about the un-skilled guy/gal that can not afford a car to get that 8.50 an hour job that's 8 miles from home in a town w/ no public transport.

Want to support them on welfare? I F'n dont! If 50cc's is all someone can do, and they do NOT have the money to pay for all the bureaucratic BS to support wars/welfare/lobbyists... Leave them to do the best they can

I'll put my house on the fact there are MANY more thousands of convicted felons riding around in cars that have nothing but a stolen gun, and a gram of meth in the glove box (no reg. no insc/no title) that OUR tax dollars (welfare) paid for.

Suppose this, and suppose that... You all know I am right.
You can tell I'm sort of sick of the people that have NO CLUE how hard life is for some. I've given away more scooters/bicycles than I can remember, just so people have a way to get to work.
When it come to pearly gates time... I'll be the sniper behind St Pete. Some of you might have him fooled but give me a clean line...

No, I don't know you're right.  And I have a HUGE clue of how hard life is.  My first 50cc bike I saved for three years to get, and I knew that insurance and registration was going to be part of the cost of ownership.  I walked to work until I had the money to get it.  Laziness is no excuse for breaking the law.  Those same people that ride unregistered and uninsured will be the first ones to sue someone when they get in an accident, regardless of who's fault it is.  Oh, and if you want to get religious about it, good deeds don't get you any special passes at the pearly gates.

Glad your injuries were not more serious! I started riding 2 wheelers on the street in 1981, Suzuki FA50. I have ridden everything pretty much, scooters, sport bikes, cruisers, tour bikes, even had an R1150GS for a couple years. A lot of that riding was in some very challenging traffic environments. I have never had an accident in all that time and I rode year round for 6 of those years with the bike as my primary transportation. I'm not an exceptional rider, in my opinion. I have always gone by 3 simple rules for dealing with the exceptional level of idiocy that most cagers demonstrate on the road.
1) They don't see you.
2) No really, even though they made eye cintact and waved, they really don't see you.
3) Most important, if they do actually see you they are going to try to kill you anyway!

It may seem a bit paranoid, but it has worked till now. I hope you get back on that horse and I hope you recover fully.

JTM65 No scooter, but seeing a maxi scoot as my next bike.

No, not paranoid.  Lessons 1 and 2 were learned quickly by me when I started driving truck.  It's amazing how many people "don't see" the 70 foot long 80,000 pound, 13' 6" tall vehicle.  So, with that being said, I transferred that knowledge over to the bike along with lesson 3.

In using my GPS to determine how off my speedo was (it was actually replaced when I purchased the bike) I found that up to 100kph if I take the KPH reading and divide it by 2 I have an accurate MPH speed.  so, at 60KPH I'm doing 30MPH, at 80 I'm doing 40, and at 100 I'm doing 50.  But, after 100kph it gets a bit wonky.  At 120kph I'm actually doing 65.

I use the KPH reading because the xciting that I have is biased towards KPH and I'm old so I have a hard time reading the small red mph numbers...lol.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm working on getting my girlfriend to try riding next year.  I am going to start her with my 50cc, and if she likes it I will start teaching her on one of my 250's (probably the Hyosung, not my Kymco).  I may have her read your story, I think that it may inspire her.
