General Discussion / MXU 250 troubleshooting and parts
« on: June 21, 2017, 12:39:08 PM »
Hey All,

I took some more time the last few weeks and I think I've found all the bugs with my newly acquired MXU 250.  I just need some help with parts and possibly tips on what i'm facing.

Cranking:   My starter is engaged all the time.  I completely removed the solenoid and the starter is still engaging.   What I done in the meantime is put a push button starter on the battery wire and it works temporarily.   With that said, I'm pretty sure I have a bad starter.   I double checked the starter button and it's free and clear of debris.  Do you guys recommend the starters on Ebay?

Safety switch:   Once I crank the engine and try to engage the transmission, it sometimes try to kill the motor when i put it in gear.   I have the foot brake down and the hand brake depressed and it still dies.  But then sometimes, it goes in gear with no issues.  Is there a safety switch I can check?

Bushings:  I noticed that when i'm decelerating, the back end of the ATV is very loose.   I looked and it seems like the bushings are gone.  Where could i find replacement bushings?

Other parts:   I need to replace the front brake pads and air cleaner too.  Could I source those from Ebay too or is there a recommended vendor?

Thanks in advance!

You are correct.  The first car I ever bought was a 1963 Dodge Polara....   :)

Disconnect the wire to the starter and isolate it, reconnect the battery and see if the solenoid clicks on. You may have power staying on from the starter button.

Good idea!   I never thought of that.  Should i hear an audible click from the solenoid if/when the solenoid engages?

I replaced the solenoid with a known good solenoid and it still tries to crank.  I completely removed the solenoid and it still tries to crank.  What else could it be?

Hello All!

I recently acquired an MXU 250.  I was visiting my cousin in AL and saw his neighbor had a four wheeler under the shed that appeared to be sitting for awhile.  I ended up buying it without hearing it run.  Last week I ended up doing some troubleshooting and it appears that the starter is constantly engaged.   As soon as i put the battery cable on, the starter is trying to engage.  In my troubleshooting, I completely removed the starter solenoid and it's STILL trying to engage.

Does that mean I have a bad starter?
