People 150 / Looking at a used People 150
« on: December 13, 2015, 01:30:24 AM »
I was looking at an old People 150 for sale, and I really like it.
Only issue is the mileage. The odometer has 16,000 miles on it!!  :o
That kinda scares me away from it. I was wondering what kind of mileage most people have gotten out of theirs??
I have a 2012 Super8 150, which I love, and I know Kymcos can go a long time with proper maintenance.
The People 150 I looked at looks spotless and runs great, and I haven't seen another one for sale in my area anywhere. But, I don't know that I would want to take a chance on one with 16,000 miles on it already.
How long do these usually last, and what would the most likely issues be at that mileage?

Super 8 150 / Funny noise when first taking off.
« on: May 15, 2015, 02:31:36 PM »
Got a dumb question.
Had the scoot parked for a couple weeks, because I've been riding my new (to me) 2006 Honda Rebel.
Got the super8 back out and noticed a funny noise.
It sounds fine when running, but when I first give it gas to start moving, I am hearing an annoying rattly sound when it starts accelerating.
Once it gets going, I don't notice any funny sounds anymore. Just when I first start from a stop.
It's a Super8 150 with 4500+ miles on it.
I'll admit that I have never had the cvt cover off in that whole time (Shame on me).
I also haven't found any lose bolts anywhere that could be rattling.
Could it be something in the cvt worn out, or could it simple need to be opened up and cleaned?
When it was parked a few weeks ago, it wasn't making this noise.
Any ideas what I should look at first. I plan on opening it up on my day off this week.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

General Discussion / Squeeky sound in the cold temps!
« on: January 19, 2015, 06:02:24 PM »
I need some advice!
My Super 8 150 has thrown me another mystery.
Ever since the weather got below freezing (yes, I'm riding all year, even in the butt-clenching cold), I've notice an occasional squeeking sound from the front wheel. It's not constant, just at random times. I've spun the wheel by hand, and it only does it when spinning forward, but not if I spin it backwards.
If the temp get back up in the mid 40s or higher, it's perfectly silent like normal. But when it drops below freezing again, It will sometimes make the squeek, and then behave again. Like I said, completely random.
I checked the wheel for any looseness, and it's solid. No play at all, and no wobble or funny handling when riding.
Where would be the most obvious culprit to look at. The front brakes are fine.
A friend said it could be the speedo drive needing to be greased. I've got just over 4000 miles on it.
Would the wheel bearings start going bad that soon?
Or, could it just be a cold weather quirk? Like I said, when the temps go up, it doesn't make a peep!
Just looking for some direction before I pull the whole front wheel off.
Thanks in advance!

Super 8 150 / Getting new tires for the Supe!
« on: September 22, 2014, 03:10:31 PM »
After having my nail issue with my tire this past week, I've decided to get new tires so I don't have to ride on the plugged one for too long.
I don't want to buy a factory Cheng Shin, because it's only available as an OEM part for WAY more than it's worth. $90 was the cheapest I found it (at kymcopartsmonster).
I'd like to run a set of Michelin City Grips or Pirelli Diablos, and I can get a set of both tires for about $130 from Denniskirk.com.
But, the nearest rear size to the factory 120/80-14 is a 140/70-14. I've seen someone post on here that a 140 rear WILL fit on a Super8, but I was wondering if anyone has run one, and will it clear without having to modify anything.
I just don't want to go to the trouble of getting a tire mounted on the rim, and then finding out after the fact that it rubs somewhere.

I appreciate any input anyone can give!

General Discussion / Murphy's Law strikes again!!!
« on: September 18, 2014, 01:34:41 PM »
It figures, with my luck, that something was bound to ruin my mood.
I finally bypassed the stupid Light Control Module on my Super8, so my lights work properly.
It's been running light a champ.
All is good...........Until this morning!

I got of work at 7 am, and while removing the lock cable from my rear wheel, I find a damn nail in it!!!
I can't win for losing!
So here's the big question.....
Can I plug a rear tire on my 150cc scooter, or am I going to have to take it to the dealer and have the whole wheel removed to patch or straight up replace the tire? The nail is dead center of the tire, in the thickest part of the rubber. I REALLY don't want to have to replace a tire with almost no tread wear.

General Discussion / Rear luggage rack question.
« on: September 04, 2014, 04:32:33 PM »
I have a 2012 Super 8 150. Had it for 6 months, and use it as my only vehicle, rain or shine. I love it!
What I don't love, is the rear rack. It looks nice, but it's 3 shades of useless when I need to strap something down to it. It's too narrow and oddly shaped to be of any real practical use.

Then, while at my dealer a while back, I got to looking at the wider tubular rack on an Agility 125. I noticed that the mounting points were laid out almost identical to the Super 8's, although I didn't have a chance to actually measure the spacing of the mount points.

So, I was just wondering, does anyone know if the Agility's rack will mount on the Super's tail?
I know it would look weird, but for me, function is way more important than looking cool.

I appreciate any input!

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / Vacation morning ride
« on: August 28, 2014, 04:27:29 PM »
So far, Mother Nature has tried to sneak in some rain on every day of my vacation. So I'm trying to take advantage of every window of sunshine I get.
Took a ride this morning to the levee by the river near Alton, IL.
Got a few pics of the scoot and myself.

General Discussion / Finally got my license test!
« on: August 26, 2014, 05:41:57 PM »
Well, after 5 1/2 months, and over 2600 miles, I finally got around to getting my bike license. So I'm officially legal now!!!
One less thing to worry about.
Passed the written test with a perfect score.
Had a couple hiccups on the riding test though. Me and the slalom cones don't get along.
Two bad knees, and a wonky hip make the back and forth weight shift a bit shaky.
But, I did the over all test well enough that they passed me.

At least now I don't have to worry about getting ticketed for not having a proper license endorsement!
Yayy ME!

Super 8 150 / A windshield that fits my Super 8.....kinda....
« on: August 09, 2014, 05:04:21 PM »
Finally found a wind shield that fits on the Super 8. It's a Puig that is actually designed to fit an Aprillia Sportcity.
I had to fiddle with the mounts for a bit, and buy longer allen bolts for the mirror extenders to allow the spacers to fit.
It even fit over the factory faux windscreen, but I had to adjust the mounting arms to the limit of their reach.
It's not perfect, but it works for what I wanted. It keeps the wind from hitting into my chest when going down the road, so now I don't feel like a drag chute!

Technical | How To / My Super 8 headlights are P!$$ING me off!!!
« on: August 08, 2014, 03:48:53 PM »
So, awhile back, my light control module messed up and had to be replaced. Covered under warranty, NO cost to me.
Lights have worked fine since, until a couple days ago.

While pulling up to a stop light, I noticed my reflection in the truck ahead of me and guess what? NO HEADLIGHTS AGAIN!!
When I stopped, the dim lights came on, but went out when I started moving again.
I rode to the dealership, and was surprised when they took it in to look at it immediately.
15 minutes later, they had it out, and everything was working again.
When I asked what the problem was, their "helpful" answer was, "NO CLUE".  :o WTF?!?!
The LCM was fine, and they checked all the wire connections. When they put it back together, it all worked!

Lights were fine again for the last couple days, until this morning when I got off work. On the way home, NO HEADLIGHTS AGAIN!!! >:(
Got home and parked with the engine idling, and I cycled the high beam switch a few times. I noticed a small flicker after a few switches back and forth, and when I spun the front wheel, the lights worked again.  ???
And they worked fine the rest of the morning while I ran some errands.

So I'm wondering, could my issue simply be a bit of corrosion in the high beam switch tripping the lights out? I do ride every day, even when it's raining, so the scoot does get wet on a regular basis. If anyone has any insight on this, I would appreciate any input. Because, frankly, my local dealer is proving to be no help!
I just want to be able to fully trust that my lights are going to work, and not fail when I need them!

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / A Road Less Traveled
« on: July 29, 2014, 02:12:52 PM »
I got out early this morning to catch a sunrise ride. It was a nice toasty 58 degrees!  :D
Rode down a cool access road at a local state park. A little bumpy and dusty, but not too bad!
Remembered my cameras for once, so I got a few pics of the Supe!

General Discussion / Anyone checked out the Hooligan 170?
« on: July 08, 2014, 07:59:32 AM »
Stopped at a local dealer to pick up a new fuel filter, and finally got to see the new Genuine Hooligan 170 in person.
I saw it online a while back, and thought it looked cool as hell. In person, it is just evil looking! Especially in the matte black finish.
Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me, so I couldn't get a pic. So I had to download a pic online.
I love the style of it. Anyone else think it's cool, or is it just my goofy taste?!?! ;D

Super 8 150 / Billet mirror extenders- Installed!
« on: July 06, 2014, 03:04:27 PM »
I finally got tired of looking at my own arms in my mirrors, so I ordered a set of mirror extenders.
I got them from a company called Luckybike, and ordered them through Amazon.com.  $17 plus shipping.
Arrived in less than a week!
Installed them this morning after work, and a big difference! I now just barely see my arms and shoulders in the mirrors and see behind me better. They move the mirrors up 1 inch and out 2 inches.
Only experienced 2 issues when installing them. (and only one of the issues has to do with the extenders)

With the mirrors mounted on the extenders, I found that when I stop at a light, the mirrors now vibrate to the point that I can't see clearly in them. When I'm moving, they're fine. But sitting still, idling, they shake like a junky going through withdrawls!
Not sure if there is a cure for it. Any suggestions?
I may end up just getting different mirrors with longer stalks down the road anyway, but I figured the extenders were worth a try.

The other issue was that my Super 8's wind screen (I use that term loosely!) had a couple cracks in the mounting posts. I suspect that was the aftermath of the bad windstorms we had several weeks back tugging on it from every direction.
When I removed the windsceen to take the mirrors off, the two cracked posts broke completely off, and now I can't remount it.  >:(
Luckily, I already ordered a new one, and am just waiting for it to come in.

Took a couple pics anyway!

Later!
