People 250 / People 250 out of retirement
« on: March 03, 2017, 03:30:25 AM »
So, it has been all most two years since I have had my people 250 out on the road. I cracked the exhaust header pipe one to many times and got fed up trying to weld the awful factory unit back together. I told myself over and over that I would build a new one from scratch, but never did. Bought and sold a cx500, then a cb350, then honda express. All the while the people sat in the shed. I had it on a trickle charger and it starts right up, but no exhaust means no way to ride. When did parts become so expensive and hard to find for this bike?
Well no more, this thread will document the return of my p250 and the improvment there of. I want a college town monster that will ride anywhere in any weather. I now work on out citys campus and park almost as far from my office as my house is. But scooter parking is 100ft from my office.

Plan include:
New exhaust (on its way from florida)
New paint, this will be color 4 for my scoot. Have yet to decide on the color
Complete service of the scoot, all fluids, valve adjustment, and any other needed parts
All new lights, LEDs all around to free up juice
Some kind of auxillary lighting on the front. I have some 6 inch hid spots and some LEDs around the garage.
Other dumber ideas. This includes oil cooler, body mods, lowering, new rear shocks, custom luggage, extended fuel tank for intersate trips, a heated seat and grips, new front fender, knobby tires?, or even a CF body.

I have always been a car guy, but fixing up old bikes over the last few years has made me better at custom work. I hope to get this started with pics and updates along the way as the weather warms and the savings account drains.

Would also like to hear any ideas, or see any pics for info or insparation.

People 250 / exhuast pipe problems
« on: June 30, 2014, 10:14:52 PM »
I welded up the end of my exhaust pipe yet again today, and I have been toying wi the idea of replacing the exhaust from the head back. Has anyone else had the head pipe crack, perforate, split, or fall apart in some way? Is my exhaust causing issues that I can fix with a jet change or adjustment? Or should I just make a new pipe al together with added strength in the head flange area? I am asking cause if im to lean or rich could this be something that will just keep happening?

General Discussion / frustration with parts
« on: April 10, 2014, 07:36:40 PM »
Has anyone else had issues with finding parts, then when you found it being shocked at the cost? My starter went out and it looks to cost around 160 dollars all told to replace. Plus the shipping, the wait time, and the chance that it will go again in a year or two. I have found starters for every other scoot kymco makes for under a hundred. Is my people 250 just an exception? still looking for a cheaper starter btw, miss kick starters....

People 250 / where to find a starter for cheap
« on: April 04, 2014, 05:29:23 AM »
My starter went out and I can not find a place to get one for less than 140 bucks. Any ideas? I wish kymco would have given the 250 a kick start.

People 250 / Rear Brakes
« on: September 12, 2012, 05:36:38 PM »
So, I was riding to work today and found the rear brake go soft on me. I stopped to check it out and found the mount for the rear claliper broken at the rear mounting point. I looked online and can't find this part. Does anyone know where I can get one? Does anyone have one they would sell? Does this part interchange between models? I can't even find a part number for the mount. I will ride home with only the front brake tonight, but I can do that safetly again. Any help is, as always, greatfully accepted.

People 250 / What Mods Have You Done?
« on: June 20, 2011, 09:11:22 PM »
I have been looking around for a while for modifications for the people 250. There are not many out there and there are even fewer pictures. So I thought I would see what people on here have done to their Scoots. I will hopefully get things rolling with mine so far.

I have a 2006 People 250. It was once the wine red color, but it is now Flat Black. I have been through several colors : Flat White, Baby Blue, Sea foam Green, And a Mix of those colors in two tone. But now, BLACK. I have the original windshield and I added a case in the back. I first changed out the headlight for a 3000K 55watt bulb. I love it and it stands out in traffic. It also cuts down on eye strain at night. I do a lot of night riding.

I have also replaced the front fender with the rear fender off a different scooter. A roketa I think, it was just sitting around the trash of the scooter shop here in town when they went under. It looks way better than the original in my opinion and after riding with no front fender for awhile, I appreciate not having water thrown up in front of me all the time. It bolts to the mount for the original fender. I have been working on adding some kind of fog light to either the same fender mounts or to the body of the scooter around the grill or below the turn signals. thoughts?

next I added the ABS like brake pulser up front, also a dumpster dive at the old shop. It works too. I also added the stainless steel braided lines at the same time. They were pulled from a track car I wrecked and parted out. I cut through the front line twice before I changed them, it was rubbing on the tire.

That brings us to the tires. They are 120/80/16 up front and 130/90/16 in the rear. I had to drill an extra hole to move the rear fender up a bit to get the rear to fit but other than that I love these tires. the change in the tires changed the whole feel of the scoot. I have more ground clearance and cornering clearance, but most of all it raised the top speed and made the scoot way better on long highway rides. I would tell anyone who needs new tires to look into changing sizes. There are way more options for the larger sizes.

I also added an IGT filter to the stock intake and rejetted the carb and changed the plug to a silver core plug thats a bit hotter than stock. I am looking for a new muffler, because the original is shot. I cut it open and shook all the crap that had broken down inside out and welded it back together. its ugly but holding for now. Looking at a suppertrapp shorty to replace it.

Last I cut the rear off below the license plate and rounded it to look better. I also added the planet express sticker to the side because I had it and I'm an incurable nerd. So the future looks to hold a new exhaust and maybe a big bore kit if I feel like it over the winter. I ride all year as long as there is no snow on the streets. Any one else have Ideas? Have you done something cool or unique and would like to share. Post up some pics. Tell your story. Show off your sweet scooter.

People 250 / charging issue
« on: June 02, 2011, 08:39:55 PM »
Has anyone had any problems with your scoot under charging the battery? I'm thinking that the voltage regulator has gone bad because the volts that the battery has after startup stay the same but never charge back up to 12volt. Does this sound right and does anyone know where I can find a good and cheap replacement? for now I'm just plugging a float charger in at home and at work every time I ride and carrying a jump box in case I have to stop for gas or something. Its a pain in the ass and only a matter of time before I break down. I know its not the battery because its new and the problem continued but not as bad.

People 250 / Tire Size Change Issue
« on: March 01, 2011, 03:04:42 AM »
Ok, so I moved to a larger set of tires this fall. I love them and think they improved everything about the scooter. But I have had an issue with speed and acceleration. I have checked everything and nothing seem wrong. New Bel, new rollers (20g) and carb cleaned and checked, new spark plug and everything tested. My question is, with a larger diameter rear tire, would I need heavier weights to match the extra torque from the rear wheel? It tops out at about 50-55mph and it never gets into "low" or "high" gear. nothing ever seems to shift. Any ideas would help.

People 250 / tire sizes
« on: September 27, 2010, 06:07:56 AM »
Has  anyone changed their tire sizes? I am thinking of putting a 130/90/16 on the back. Any ideas or concerns? I found an unrepairable leak in my rear tire this weekend.

People 250 / issue with top speed and accelerating
« on: September 25, 2010, 06:12:32 AM »
I have had a growing issue with my scoot not getting above 55/60 tops, but occasionally it will "kick up" and go full speed. there is also an issue with slow acceleration. seems like it is not getting into low or high "gear". i have checked the clutch, the rollers are new. any ideas? scoot is a 2006 people 250, 15000k
