Technical | How To / 2009 Kymco People 150 Belt Replacement.
« on: July 06, 2023, 07:47:54 AM »
Hi , i have had this bike for about 6 years and it now has 32,000 Km's on it . I use it mostly around town at between 40-60 kmph . Occasionally i ride out of town and on a flat surface with a little tail wind it will just reach 100kmph but i usually do 90kmph . Yesterday i went on that same ride ( which i haven't done for a year ) and noticed it was about just under 10kmph slower which got me thinking about the belt . I have never changed the belt . The manual says just to inspect it at 11,000 km's but doesnt  say when it should actually be changed so i figured it's probably overdue.  The bike still rides great . So a couple of questions .

1. I can find a part number for the belt  (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/323032048614) this is apparently an original Kymco , but i cant find the belt size in case i wanted to try and source one locally. Anybody know the size ?

2. Would it be practical to change the rollers and how does one know what rollers to get . Are they a standard size but different weights ?

3. I was thinking of doing this myself as i like to do my own work where possible in order learn a bit more , but i dont have an impact wrench . Can the CVT nut be removed by hand ?

Thanks.

General Discussion / Is it a faulty Starter Relay ?
« on: November 23, 2021, 04:07:18 AM »
Hi , i have a 2009 People 150 , the other day it wouldnt start , nothing , completely  dead . Battery is showing 12.36V on my mutlimeter . I watched a Youtube vid on the electrical start system and using a  test light its showing current coming from the start button and the brake lever  but there is no light when the test light is connected to the postive Starter relay post and a suitable ground ( neg battery terminal ).  And it wont start if i use a screwdriver to connect the two relay posts.  So i figured it needs a new Relay and one is on the way.  If you can see anything else i need to check please let me know.

My question though is about my blinkers . When i kickstart the scoot she fires up and electrics work , horn, lights etc but when i hit the blinkers they dont flash like normal . They sound really weird sometimes , sometimes making no ticking noise and sometimes ticking really fast , and the lights seem to co-ordinate with the ticking sound , making it unnerving to ride not being sure if the blinkers are actually working. Is this something one might expect with a faulty starter relay or should i be looking elsewhere ?

People 150 / Mirror sizes.
« on: April 18, 2020, 08:03:40 AM »
Hi , i have a 2009 Kymco People 150 ( In Australia ) and i recently bought a set of replacement mirrors off Ebay but they were 10mm and i realised i then needed 8mm adapters which i acquired . But while the right hand side adapter fits the left one doesn't , the hole seems larger like it might be 9mm , i'm not sure . Does anyone have any experience with this ? Are they different sizes ? I'd go for genuine Kmyco mirrors but i cant seem to find any in Oz.

General Discussion / Kymco People 150 2009 Tires/tyres
« on: December 14, 2016, 07:15:08 AM »
I have the above mentioned scooter and it has the original Chinese tyres  ( i am from down under you see hence the spelling ) on it. Thats an 80/80/16 on the front and a 100/80/16 on the back. But trying to find a rear tyre here in Oz has been very difficult. My local bike shop said the only tyres he can access are a Pirelli front 80/80 and another Pirelli front 100/80 . He said although they have different tread patterns , it would basically work putting the larger front on the back wheel.  I have looked on the net and cannot find a back tyre to fit my scoot.  Another scooter dealer / mechanic said he has had the same problem with some of the Sym scooters. Sourcing tryes has proved to be difficult and sometimes some ad libbing has had to be done.

So my question is has anyone had to do this with their scoot and will it make much difference.

Thanks

General Discussion / Transmission oil and brake fluid.
« on: October 28, 2016, 06:38:52 AM »
Hi ,  When i bought my second hand  People 150 I went to the local bike shop and asked for oil to do the service and asked about what Transmission oil to use . She recommended a 15W /50 synthetic for the motor and said that the remainder of the 1 lt bottle would do for the transmission.  That was 4000 km's ago and i have just completed my 3rd service yesterday. However i have been looking online and there seems to be some suggestion that this is not what i should be putting in the transmission but rather , as the manual states , a 90 SAE  gear oil ......any thoughts ?  Also the brake fluid looks just ok for now , but the book doesnt say where to fill it and what to fill it with . Can it just be topped up or is it better to be bled and new fluid put in ? ....Thanks .

General Discussion / People 150 unusual characteristics .
« on: October 21, 2016, 10:35:10 PM »
I love my bike but there are a couple of things about it which i find kind of strange . The first is the position of the passenger foot pegs , which have been placed too far forward and my passengers feet hit my heels making it awkward and painful when stopping and having to place your feet on the ground.  The other is the kickstand . I have ridden a lot of scooters in SE Asia and never had a problem parking on a a slight incline or uneven surface, but with this bike it is very unstable and there have been times when the bike has almost fallen on top of me if its not parked on dead level ground.  The solution is to use the center stand , but i was wondering if this is common to this bike and if anyone has ever fitted a different kickstand to it .

General Discussion / Comfortable cruising speed.
« on: October 21, 2016, 10:22:33 PM »

Hi , im new here and im from Australia . I recently purchased a Kymco People 150 2011 model that currently has 12,000 K's on it .  I use it mostly for around my town which is a small seaside town with mostly 50 Kmph speed limits .  The road to my house used to be 80 Kmph and i used to love leaving the 50 zone and getting it up to 80  for the short burst before home.  But they have since changed the 80 back to 60 so its all low speed short trips generally .

The other day i went for a ride to another town about 40km's away  with speed zones ranging from 80 - 100 Kmph on mostly flat roads . The bike handled it quite well and i hit 100kmph a couple of times but felt more comfortable sitting between 80-90 .  My question is , how far have you ridden at high speeds ? What is your comfortable cruising speed and how long have you held it for ? I kind of feel a little nervous having it at full throttle for long stretches on straight roads , i feel more comfy when there are a few corners so i can vary the speed a bit more and it doesnt feel like im pushing the engine too hard .
