The heat doesn't seem to be an issue. I replaced a 35w bulb with a 20w LED. It does get warm to the touch, but not hot. I have no problem keeping my hand on the headlight lens. I checked it after riding home from work, about a 15-20 minute ride. The old bulb was definitely warmer. The heat filters around the inside -of the headlight, just like the old incandescent. I think little fan on the end of the headlight distributes the heat fairly evenly in there.

I think heat might have been an issue if I had gone the other way, say using a 50w halogen H4 to replace the 35W HS2.

The safety improvement is excellent. I can see at least twice as far down the road as I could with the old light. In dawn/dusk lighting where I could not see a light there is now a bright spot on the road. I mentioned before that at 30mph I could not see the place I was going to be in a second. I was going faster than my headlight would shine for safe riding. That is not an issue now.

OK, it's been a couple weeks, real life kept getting in the way. I did get an LED headlight, Installed it. Here's a link to what I purchased:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/291796762760
Packaging wasn't much, it was in an unmarked envelope with a foam holder that was notched to hold the bulb. This unit is huge compared to the original bulb.

The Osram bulb I pulled was rated at 720 lumens, this one is rated at 2000 lumens. I suspect that is overly optimistic, and probably more like 1500 lumens. The light is really blue, not the yellowish tint of the old bulb. It also also very bright compared to the old bulb.

The two LEDs are on top side of the unit when installed. The light pattern has a dark spot directly in from of the bike because of this. If I ever need a replacement LED I'll probably look for a light that is less blue, and has lights on more than one side.

The fan threw me off a bit, as when I turned the bike on it started to hum, I guess I wasn't expecting any noise.

The illumination is so much better that I couldn't believe the difference at first. It makes the other lights on the bike seem dark. I guess the next thing is to replace the running lights all around.

Thanks to this forum I realized that I could use an H4 bulb base as well.

I figured out a general rule of thumb is that you get 5x more light per watt as an incandescent bulb. That means If I replace a 5W bulb with a 1W LED I'll have about the same light. If I replace it with a 2W LED I'll get more than twice as much light.

Thanks for the feedback!

Well, I think I may have found part of the light issue. A about a week ago it rained, the bike would not start. Had to stick it on a charger for a few minutes. Then it sat for the weekend, was dead Monday morning. Charged it up again, for longer. Looks like the battery may be up for replacement. Prior to this there had been noting indicating a weak battery, had been starting easily.

I pulled the battery out, It was an Interstate YTX9, and the date on the battery was 10 years old. Makes me wonder what happened to the original battery, since it is a 2013 scooter.

I'm assuming that it can be replaced with an Interstate CYTX9-BS, or a Deka GTX9, or one of the same size batteries.

Another thing, why don't I find a list of all the standard maintenance parts, with part numbers for this bike? When I get a turning signal bulb for the car, the book calls out a 4157 NA bulb. Makes getting the correct parts easy.

Thanks for listening

General Discussion / Re: 1st Serviced - query about the oil used.
« on: August 07, 2016, 03:11:46 AM »
Paul, It sounds like you are covered. I would recommend a synthetic oil. When I got my bike I changed the oil at 1000 miles. The original owner had done a change at around 400 miles. The oil that came out was in terrible condition. I used a 10w-40 full synthetic for the change. I changed it again at 3000 miles. The oil was dirty, but it was as slick as the new oil I was putting into the bike.

Air cooled engines are really hard on oil. I used to find my old beetle destroyed the oil between changes. With an air-cooled engine the oil has to absorb and dissipate that heat elsewhere in the engine. The Synthetic oil doesn't break down as easily when heated.

Hope you enjoy the ride!

After taking a closer look through the front lens, I see that it is a halogen bulb in there. I can see the black paint on the end.

The 12636-ctv-bw sounded like a good option, except when I tried to get one, a message came up that the bulb was not available to export to the US. Too bad, as a slight orange/yellow tinge can really cut through fog.

I looked at H1 bulbs on the Autozone website, All the H1 bulbs it listed there were single beam, not hi/lo. I know, I should probably be looking at motorcycle places. I've purchased all my other parts there, though, and they do carry some motorcycle parts.

What is the difference between H1 and H4 bulbs? The Cree LED is an H4 mount. Are they interchangeable? I assume Beermak was not proposing that I rewire the headlight. H4 bulbs are easily purchased. I would just have to make sure that the wattage was OK.

That bulb has to go. "High Beam Harry" came towards me the other night, I literally could not tell where the road was. I had to pull over until he went past.

I got my 2013 Like 200i last spring, with just 500 miles on it. Since then I've put 3000 miles on it. It's a fun little ride. Sure beats driving a minivan.

I have noticed that the headlight is really dim. I want to replace it, mostly for safety. Seriously, at 30 mph I'm going faster than the headlight actually shines. Almost hit a deer because It was not illuminated until I was right on top of it. The focus appears to be correct, but there isn't much light.

I want to replace the headlight with a brighter one. The manual calls out a 35w/35w bulb for low/high beam, does not call out a part number. Obviously I don't want to use the same bulb model, I want to put in a much brighter bulb.

I have a couple concerns about putting in a higher wattage bulb, including heat, and also not having enough output from the alternator to properly operate and charge everything. I don't want to melt down the headlight housing, and I don't want to recharge my battery every couple days. A 60w bulb would be over 2 amps more current than the 35w bulb. I don't imagine that the alternator was designed to provide much extra current.

I'm sure somebody on the forums has replaced that bulb. I'm assuming that maybe a halogen or xenon bulb of the same wattage exists. Could you please tell me the bulb type and model number? I don't want to disassemble anything until I have the new bulb.

Thanks.
