Agility 125 / Re: DIY Variator tool.
« on: August 04, 2019, 02:13:30 PM »
I decided to service and clean  the clutch and variator assembly on my scooter, and made myself a variator tool from bits of steel which were lying around. Dead easy to make a tool like this.

I'm actually glad that I opened everything - I discovered that the needle bearing inside the clutch housing was almost running dry and the old grease was very dirty. Some clutch dust was trapped inside the clutch components and clutch drum as well.
I just cleaned the needle bearing properly and used some CV joint grease to lubricate the needle bearing again.

Daniel.
Well I'll be damned. If I knew there was another passionate rider I would of hanged around longer lol. Good for you mate. That variator was a beast to remove. I bought a similar tool but the breaker bar was not a enough to unbolt. So I used a steel pole over the breaker bar for leverage and then voila (eureeka!).

Agility 125 / Re: Dim headlight / no signals / no parking lights
« on: August 04, 2019, 02:06:36 PM »
HI everyone!

I'm a long time 2-wheeler rider but first-time scooter owner.  Just picked up a 2013 Kymco Agility 125 for cheap.  It was cheap because it comes with some electrical gremlins.

So here's the breakdown.

When I first bought it, the headlight and brake light wasn't working.  Only the front left turn signal worked but it just stayed solid whenever the signal was used.

I took it home, ripped it apart and found out that all the bulbs were blown out.  I ordered new bulbs, a new rectifier and a signal relay.

I put them all in and I get a dim headlight but a normal looking flash-to-pass beam ( voltage measured about 2V and 10V, respectively, at the bulb ).  No turn signals work.  Brake light now works but parking lights are still not working so no riding at night.

I should also add that originally, the fuses in the floorboard were exposed with no protection.  I snipped em off and replaced em with proper in-line holders and the accompanying 7A fuses.  Also, on that note, if I disconnect the red wire fuse, the headlight brightens up on low beam.

I've tested all the grounds for continuity including the ones behind the front plastics and under the seat.  I'm not super electrically inclined, however so I need your guys' help on this, please! Otherwise this thing's going to be a daytime only scooter, which sucks, because it's 100F+ in the daytime right now.

Thanks in advance!
Wow I feel for you no one got back to you? It sucks trust me been there done that which is Why I rely on youtube and learn from there. You could say I am almost qualified to be a mechanic but I'm not lol. Parking lights would be the Brake Light Switch I think: https://www.broncparts.com/productdetails.php?itemid=53479&catid=Colt%2049cc&part=brake%20light%20switch
I had the same problem in the past. That part is very cheap on ebay. Good luck

Ace, this one worked for us, for our Kinetic TFR which uses the same bulb you show...

It works Great !
Did I mention it was cheep, like the budgie ?  :-)

No clue how long it will last, but I am now happy with the vendor and will get a couple more just to keep on hand.

Interesting! BA20D is the correct fitting. Will make an order so I can LED everyone else who shines their bright as LED on me at night time (my turn - lock and loaded)  ;D

I'm back now after a 3yr sabbatical  ;D
So what have I missed? I got a lot of goodies I learned on the way DIY. I am confident to the days now I even take the time and stripped my own scooter. Good days and more to come.

Peace Ace!

Or you can be like me. Let nature take its course and allow the rain to wash it once in a blue moon...I wake up in the morning and nice clean lol

Thank you rain :)

Agility 125 / CDI Module

Hey y'all,

I bought me a new CDI box on ebay and received it today: Ignition Coil 6 Pin DC CDI For Kymco SYM Vento GY6 50 125cc 150cc Moped Scooter

However, silly me I forgot to check the measurements and model number properly and notice the new one is shorter then the original? The pin seems to fit properly.

Kymco - TYC-D401: 55mm x 92mm x 25mm
New CDI: 50mm x 75mm x 25mm

I haven't tested it yet since the old one is still working for now and will eventually need to change it.

What you guys think, does it really matter? I feel the original is the best to buy but jumped the gun and bought what I saw.

Thanks in advance

Wish I could help, but its been a long journey learning the nuts and bolts of servicing my scooter.

Good luck with it.

14 volts on a multimeter means next to nothing on a valid battery test. A load test is meaningful because you could have a cell that won't work under load.

Karl
Spoke to the mechanic. It would of been easier if someone told me to test it with the multimeter for a low reading?

I have it at 12.3v and when I start the bike it drops to 10v which means I need a new battery. I did mention "when do you change the battery"?

Thanks case close!

Charge a battery by putting a battery charger on it. Should be charged while riding machine. So maybe your rectifier is bad. First, remove battery and charge it. Second, take to Auto Zone and have them test it with LOAD TESTER. Then report back here.

Karl
Forgot to mention I already charged it to 100% close to 14volts on the multimeter. I went to start it and you can hear it but its not turning over? I am trying to locate the fuse but can't find it on the manual?

that's a little low for the battery, but you should still be able to kick start it. Why did you change the plug? Did it stop working after that?
Hey Jim, I thought I needed to change it so I did anyway. The old spark plug look really bad but yeah still can't kick start it even with the new spark plug. I've seen other scooters where they use the kick starter and it is way better than mine? The Kymco Agility 2006 is hard to use the kick starter :(

I also commented on another thread here where someone posted a battery charging stats: 12-13v = 100% .... 11.9v = 0%.
How do you charge the battery? How did my battery get to 0% charged 11.9v? I used the multimeter on another battery and it is dead as no reading at. So I tested it on a car battery and it was 12.5v which means the multimeter is pretty accurate.

I forgot to mention, I replace the headlight frame for another one from a used scooter. My old headlight didn't work properly before only the high beam. So I was using the high beam before until I got it replaced.

I agree with Oldguy, about the battery taking a surface charge, but you did not say how old the battery is, or if you have any other devices drawing voltage from the battery. Also, Ive seen low milage on a machine but time killed the battery from sulfation-not enough use/charges. Here is a test to check how good the battery is.If you charge the battery fully, put it in the scooter and hook it up. Then hook up a voltage meter to the terminals. (See the chart below) While starting (or attempting to start)the scooter watch the voltage. If the voltage drops to less than 10 volts while the starter is turning the engine over, the battery is bad and needs to be replaced.(probably has a bad cell from sulfation) Each cell represents 2+volts. That is why you see 6 fill caps on a battery.  A new charged maintenance free battery should show about 12.9-13.0 volts. Here is a chart for maintenance free battery voltage, percentage of charge
12.9-13.0 volt    100% charge
12.6-12.8 volt      75% charge
12.3-12.5 volt      50% charge
12.0-12.2 volt      25% charge
11.9 or less           0% charge
Kind of decieving looking isn't it. but this is out of the book information.  A Regular (non-maintenance free battery ) usually runs about .3 to .4 of a volt less on the chart. Now you say- what about that draw down when starting?, pulling the battery down to around 10 volts? well it takes alot of amps to crank over that engine-especially cold, so the voltage drop is normal, but a good battery will usually not drop below 10.5 volts while cranking the engine over. This is why the electronic stuff( CPU, electronic fuel injection, etc) operates on 9 volts, so every thing will work like it is supposed to while starting. Hope this information helps in the future.           This information applies to cars, motorcycles, and the like that is equipped with a 12 volt battery

This is very interesting. I used multimeter and it is showing 11.9 or less on my battery. Does that mean it hasn't been charged at all? How do I charge it? My regulars trips from A to B is around 15-20mins. Please help me not what to do here? I have a Agility 125 2006, and done just over 30,000kms. I wonder if I need a new battery haven't changed it since I bought the scooter maybe going onto 8yrs? This model doesn't have a good kick start either :( I tried countless times and can't get it to work? Was working good the other day and then it can't start at all? I put a new spark plug in. Might look at the fuse and see if anything?

Guys I manged to learn how to use the multimeter to check the batter. It is showing 11.9v. I think it is suppose to be 12volts?
