that's a wrap on this one.  New carb did the trick.  Runs smoothly regardless of how hard I stomp on the throttle.

This one can be wrapped up.  Finally!   New carburetor ($180) and about 30 minutes to install.  Took it on a long ride to work and runs like a top.  Since we skipped Spring in Michigan, it's ready for Summer.

On April 6, you posted problem fixed after carb cleaning.  Did something else happen after that?  Why did you take it  to the shop again?

Unfortunately, yes.  I thought the issue was fixed but it wasn't.  After the carb cleaning, it was less frequent but still bogged down.  I took it to a Kymco dealer and their diagnosis was a new carburetor.  They wanted $450 to replace it but I ordered a new OEM for $185.  It arrives today and I'll put it in this weekend.  Hopefully, that will end this saga.

If you get one from Taiwan, it will take a few weeks, but the price is going to be better. That would be the best way to get one.

Do you have any recommended sites where I can get one from Taiwan?  The cheapest new online I could find was $195.

I broke down and took it to a place that repairs Kymcos.  The diagnosis is that it needs a whole new carburetor.  Any suggestions on where to buy one online?  I looked on eBay and couldn't find anything in the US.  OEM is preferred but a quality non-OEM is fine too.  Thanks for the help.

People s200 / Gel Battery Recommendations?
« on: April 15, 2019, 03:42:44 AM »
Looks like I need a new battery. I've had several people mention getting a gel battery but want to make sure I get one that's compatible. Any recommendations?

So I'm wondering if I need to re-do my carb cleaning.  When I cleaned it, I really just cleaned the jets and the one was completely blocked.  Since then, it runs better and the 'bogging down' isn't as frequent.  Do you think pulling it out and pulling it apart and doing a thorough cleaning will more than likely fix the bogging down or do you think the bogging down is caused by something different and the clogged jet was just making it worse.  Any input is appreciated.

Sorry Stig, not sure what you mean by pinging, but I used 93 gas with octane booster in it hoping to give it a Spring jumpstart, but maybe it's having the opposite effect?  Should I be using 87 or 91?

Not sure. I believe they're the OEM sizes.

So after cleaning out the carb (see my previous thread), my scooter fires right up and idles nicely. I just took it for my first real ride since last Fall and it still misses under heavy throttle. It's much better than it was but it still hesitates occasionally.  Re-reading this thread, I will try lower octane gas in it but any other ideas to try?

Can I just add ethanol remover like my brother does for his boat engine?

Yep, first time working on a carb. I removed the whole carb and intended on doing a thorough cleaning but got a little intimidated by the whole thing so I just cleaned the jets and one was completely blocked so I was hopeful that was my problem and it was. Thanks again for your help.

Related question. Is there an additive I can add to the gas to help keep the carb cleaner longer?

Thanks for the help. I pulled the carb, cleaned it and reinstalled it. Fired right up. No more stall when throttled.

Since I have limited engine experience, I bought a used donor carb on eBay for $10 that I'll use as my patient.  I'll let you know how it goes.  Thanks for all the tips.
