I think I agree with you.  I'll update this thread if something changes.

Scoot rev easily even at light throttle  on the center stand?
Front and rear wheel turn freely by hand?
New scooter will smell a bit .....but burnt sweeper belt smell is not common
Ride it to the dealer and give them a smell?
If the belt is righteously being cooked, for whatever reason, do not put yourself in jeopardy should it fail.

PS: are you comfortable removing the underseat bucket...getting a look at the engine?
Flashlight inspection under the scoot for a hose touching something hot?
Is the rear "gearbox" exceedingly hot after a ride....a possible indication of lack of lubrication (gear oil level nearly empty?)

Dealer is 140 miles from here -- only way to get there is via interstate.  I bought it used.

Yes, both wheels move freely when on centerstand.

Like vacuum belt burning smell or exhaust coating burning smell? (May still have that exhaust coating stuff not quite burned off)

Not sure Snoop.  Just something I never smelled before on any of my bikes.  And this is the first CVT vehicle I've owned.  That's why I'm guessing CVT belt.  But the scooter doesn't seem to be self-destructing -- it runs just fine.

Draco: I too have an X400i and I love it just as much as Alexis and Clampett love theirs.

Can't recommend this machine enough.

Thank you for your comments.  I want to get a larger displacement scooter, not to replace my 200i, but to have a bit more power when I want it.  I'm not sure what I will purchase -- it depends on what pops up on Craigslist most likely.  I'm looking for at least 250-300cc and up.

I've NEVER had a ride so easy to put onto the center stand.
While holding ONLY the left handlebar, I can press down on the stand while giving just a slight tug on the bar and she goes right up.

Maybe other Kymcos are this easy too, but I was pleasantly shocked and repeated it 2 more times just to make sure.

My Like 200i is much lighter than your new 400i but mine goes up on the center stand with only my foot pressure.

I am very interested in the 400i -- are you still happy with it?  What are the best and worst things about it?

I just looked on KYMCO's website (the USA website) and the largest scooter made/sold now is the XCiting 400i.  Why did they drop the 500i?  Poor sales?  Problems?

On a serious note . . .

I despise loud motor vehicles, be it exhaust noise or music noise -- it isn't necessary and is usually against the law -- although almost never enforced.

All my bikes (9 of them) are stock with stock exhaust -- I like quiet.

I've ridden my 2015 Like 200i twice now, about 50 miles each.  I have two observations:

1) It doesn't like (no pun intended) rough roads.  These back roads were paved, somewhat, problem is that there were about 3-4 layers of pot-hole patches.  Now these roads would have been tough on any street bike.  My KLR650 would have been at home here.  But my Kymco danced and bounced around too much.  I told it I was sorry and I promised it wouldn't happen again.

2) If I make a very sharp slow speed turn, one where I have to turn the handlebars a lot, they can trap/pin my knee and leg.  I'm somewhat tall (6'2") with a 34-in inseam.   I've learned to splay my knees to the outside when I make one of these driveway-type maneuvers.

NOTE:  Coming from a lifetime of motorcycles, I still haven't made the mistake (yet) of locking up the rear wheel by grabbing the "clutch".
