I'm not sure what the regulations in Estonia are but in US 50cc scooters are restricted to 30mph due to licensing regulations. Most of restrictions lie in stock exhaust. That would be the 1st thing I'd replace. You will have to re-jet the carb for new exhaust but it's worth it.

You better off getting a new pipe preferably one with an expansion chamber for more power. I personally don't like Leo Vince pipes. I'd suggest a Technigas one instead. Check out Scooterworks. They've been having some good sales on Kymco parts lately.

I'm thinking about getting Polini so let me know how that works for you when you get it. Got my scoot used with Technigas Next R installed. I get about 50 mph top speed (if the speedometer is honest) so I'm not sure if previous owner has modified anything  besides the exhaust.

See the plastic part on Malossi?
Maybe you have a different model?

From what I've seen, Polini variator is all metal while even Malossi is partially made of plastic. I think Polini is around $110 but well worth the extra money. I've seen some on eBay for $30 but they're all plastic.

I have Technigas Next R and you will definitely need to re-jet with that pipe but it's worth it. Bolts right on and sounds like a swarm of angry bees. I just recently got my carb re-jetted so if you go with Technigas I can look thru mechanics notes to see which jet he used.
It's $146 here:

People 50 / Front/rear shocks
« on: May 08, 2010, 02:54:20 PM »
Are there any aftermarket shocks? I would love to get new front fork and rear shock since mine doesn't seem to handle bumps all that great. Just want to improve handling and most importantly, safety. Any ideas?

Thanks for suggestions guys. How do i know which one fits. Is the opening size all that matters? Will I need to mess with jetting again?

Took the scoot to a shop and they replaced idle jet. Runs like a champ with Technigas now. Now I want to find an aftermarket air intake and replace that unsightly air filter box. Any suggestions on where to look?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention... Got the cylinder cleaned, honed the piston and put a new gasket there. I tightened everything according to kymco manual specs. Checked compression and I'm getting around 110. Is that about right? What do I need for a vacuum test?

Update. Got a new carb, reed, autocock and autobystarter. Using synthetic oil and clean gas. Still have technigas exhaust. I called Scooter clinic in Florida and spoke to one of the mechanics. His was familiar with Kymco 50 and said that carb does not need re-jetting with Technigas pipe. The only way it will run is if I have air valve almost closed on the carb and even then it's not reliable at all. Stall out fast and I was only able to get around the block on it. Running out of ideas....
