Thanks, Iahawk!  That was exactly what i needed to understand how the front and rear covers were attached and how to separate them---eventually.  I would have never figured this out on my own or using the manual.  Still a pita, but do-able.

The only thing i'd add is that you don't actually have to remove either the front or rear cover to change brake fluid.  Just separate them ("just") and loosen the three 10mm nuts holding the front handlebar cover enough to access the master cylinder cover.  Btw, it's easy to misalign a turn signal and not be able to screw the front and rear covers together.

Anyhow, thank a bunch.

Technical | How To / How to Remove Handlebar Rear Cover for People 50S 4T?

Hi...I can't figure out how to separate (remove the rear handlebar cover) the front and rear handlebar covers in order to get to the master cylinder.  Manual says to remove windshield and 4 screws and 2 bolts.  All done but i still can't separate the bottom quarter of the covers.  What have i missed?

Thanx!

Technical | How To / Re: How to Change Your Belt! :D

Great tutorial!

Only thing I'd add is that (on the 2-stroke People 50, at least), the new belt width is 18mm and the used belt service limit is 17mm, as per shop manual (well, elsewhere in the manual it says limit is 16.5mm).  So, you can measure first, then know if belt replacement is necessary or optional.

Technical | How To / Re: CVT doesn't engage at low rpm

Update:  Clutch lining in spec (2mm min.) and even, but glazed.  I deglazed it easily with light sanding.  Clutch bell contact area was clean.

Variator roller diameter in spec (15.4mm min.) but all have flat spots.  Can this cause the symptoms i described?

Thanx.

Technical | How To / CVT doesn't engage at low rpm
« on: August 17, 2013, 01:22:28 AM »
Hi.  Any ideas on why a cvt would fail to engage from idle until engine rpm is fairly high?  Guessing 2-3000 rpm.  Not sure what throttle opening, but certainly more than normal.  Scooter runs ok otherwise.  I thought it might be a worn belt (10K miles), but it's not.  What variator or clutch problems might account for this?

I don't know if this is a recent or long-time problem.  Bike's a 2005 Vitality 2-stroke 50cc.

Thanx.

Technical | How To / Lack of top speed in People 50 4t
« on: April 25, 2010, 02:54:36 PM »
Hi, again.  I recently got a 2008 People 50cc 4-stroke with 2000 miles on it.  Acceleration is ok to 25 mph (40kph) and top speed is 35 mph, but there's no response to the last one-third throttle twist.  Any suggestions for higher top speed?  That's more important than acceleration on the roads I use.

Thanks!

Hi...my Poeple 50 2-stroke's piston and rings are badly scored---looks like  lack of lubrication.  Is there any way to test the oil pump?  Can it be adjusted?  The manual doesn't say anything useful about this.

I'll be installing a 70cc kit but would prefer not to do oil pre-mix if I can avoid it.

Thanks in advance.
