General Discussion / Re: A bad start to riding season.....
« on: May 08, 2014, 10:36:09 AM »
I'm like the odd driver in town. People ride about with dark clothing and no helmets. Yesterday I went locally and bought a bright yellow full face helmet and a neon rain jacket from the %50 off rack (I just wanted a colorful jacket of any type). I already had a comment about me riding in sunny weather with a rain jacket on. It was quite chilly even with a thick sweater. But I see motorists taking me a bit more seriously as I look like a motorcycle with that gear.

Well OK, I do look strange but I feel safer and the ride seems more enjoyable.

Also yesterday a  huge tractor trailer delivered  a boat to our Essex Marina and stopped in front of me in a narrow road, I didn't want to pass and wondered what the issue was. He got out of his cab and in a southern accent and asked if I could lead him safely to the RT 9 highway exit which I gladly did. I felt that was odd but I was taken seriously.

Genesis, think of a boss as a thick long washer. Instead of .20 think its and inch or 2 thick cylinder with a whole going thru it. It could also be called a type of spacer.

Yes Zombie we do need licenses her for 49cc.

I am planning another mod soon and I have about $200 to budget that.

I am now trying too see if scooters are allowed on the bike path that goes over the Baldwin Bridge that crosses the Connecticut River.

Update

I just called the state police Troop F and we can ride over the bridges as long as we stay on the bike path. The thing that worried me was the bike paths over the bridges are like sidewalks and you can't ride on sidewalks.

I may be wrong on the HP statement. I'm seeing 2 HP here on the official site and not 5 HP as I quoted.

http://www.ct.gov/dmv/cwp/view.asp?a=810&q=430480

Its very important not to take non-official websites literally as they sometimes have inaccurate info.

This non official site says 5HP

http://www.dmv.org/ct-connecticut/other-types.php

But this document on the official site also says 5 HP so its really confusing.

http://www.ct.gov/dmv/lib/dmv/20/29/cycman.pdf

If I have an issue such as an accident and fault needs to be determined and I exceed these limits, I could be held at fault and furthermore my insurance would suddenly be invalidated. I do work for the state seasonally and its quite common to confiscate vehicles and examine them for compliance after accidents. I just emailed the CT DMV and hope to get a response in 4 days or so.

TY Zombie

I'm 30 miles away from the dealer, I dont want to spend $200 on a van rental right now to get the bike in.

I didn't realize that a tube or anything had to come off when using the #82 jet, but I'll take it off as its easy to do.

I think 35 MPH on the flats is par for a Super 8 with just the jet and boss derestriction if I'm reading thru the forums and interpreting correctly.

Here in Connecticut we only have a 5HP and 49 cc limit; on our DMV, site there is nothing that restricts the speed of Mopeds/scooters.

I think I would be satisfied if I can get 40 MPH out of the is bike. I'm at 135 miles on the odometer so far after 3 days of having it.

Buts its time for other mods and to buy a 12 v impact wrench as it good for quick roadside tire changes too. I just need to get a torque wrench also.

I was on a rural backroad yesterday on my second day of owning a scooter. A lady passed a bicyclist in the opposite lane and came right at me head on in my lane. I shouldered the scooter as best I could and barely made it by her.

There is a lot of thinking while riding these, Iits obvious the lady didnt see me because she was looking that the 10 speed she was passing.

You can't hop on a scooter and just ride carefree just doing your part, defensive riding with constant scanning is a must and it gets tiring having to anticipate all sorts of scenarios that suddenly appear.

Hello

I have just purchased a 2013 Kymco Super 8 50cc 2T here in Connecticut. I asked the salesman if the scooter came with the smooth boss and 82 jet which he knew nothing about but said they de-restrict the scooter before sales. They delivered the bike and said it was derestricted. After they left, I notice the 82 jet was in a plastic bag and not on the bike so I put it on myself. Unfortunately there was no sign of a Boss shouldered or smooth and don't know if they put on a smooth boss like they said.

I want to check to see if the smooth boss is on. Do I have to rent an impact wrench to take off the pulley to check for a shouldered or smooth boss, or can I just take off the cover and see what boss is on. I have no confidence in the dealership and wont be contacting them again unless I crucially need to.

The scooter does 36 MPH on the flats, I'd be more satisfied with 40MPH at some point.

Thanks

Chris
