There are a few gurus on here that I dont see much any more that did mention, you should upjet once you mod the snorkel and exhaust. 85 seemed a sweet spot . I up jetted even more when I opened up the box and never bothered to down jet again.

Opened up my box also and it would initially bog big time then speed up. I closed the box back up ever so slightly and its was smooth again. Running a 90+  jet, I don't remember which exact jet I'm running

When I have done "the dribble test", if the cable was not properly adjusted I might not get any oil from the pump at idle.  By running at higher rpm's i would start to get oil.  But I don't get a dribble.  While my notes are not in front of me, my recollection is of maybe 6 or 8 drops per minute.  It takes a lot of patience to test this.   And if there is any air in the lines it takes quite a while before the drips begin.

Thanks for mentioning this as I forgot. There should be marking on the oil pump cable cam that line up with another mark if the oil pump cable tension (length) is correct. The cam has to be operated (turned) a certain amount before oil will be allowed to flow to the carb. There is a cable adjustment screw I believe to get the correct cable tension (length). If the cable is too loose, the cam will not be operated enough to allow oil to flow to the carb.

Oil pumps rarely go because they are lubed constantly. The manual gives a somewhat idea of how to bleed the pump. But at the end of the day if you crank or run the scooter briefly with the oil line disconnected from the carb, you should see a dribble of oil coming out. The oil comes out of the bottom of the reservoir so getting the air out of the line going into the pump should be fairly easy using gravity (letting the oil run thru the line via gravity then plugging it into the inlet side of the oil pump).

He did an airbox mod including removal of the snorkel. I can testify the air box is not very but ultra sensitive to opening it up to allow more air in. I think this could be an issue that the holes made in the airbox are just a bit too big..

Replacing the shouldered boss should get you 35 MPH. Up-jetting 85-90, removing the snorkel from airbox, and cutting and welding the blind pipe of the exhaust, plus 8 gm Dr Pulley Sliders should get you 40+ MPH on a hot non-windy day on a flat Road with smooth surface but real nice acceleration in all conditions. Maybe also a stiffer torque spring like a purple malossi.

You may also want to expose the air screw and get a D shaped socked or cut a screwdriver slot in it.

Anything more than that would require new chambered exhaust with maybe bigger carb and maybe open air filter and more expertise than I can contribute.

I really don't want to use an impact wrench, particularly to put the variator bolt back on.  Do I need to get one of those little metal pieces with the teeth that screws into the bolt holes to keep this variator from spinning?  Anyone have a link to one?  Any other tool for this type of fan to lock it?

I use the metal fixture with teeth on it. It works a charm. I got it from a member Josh here I think.

I had 2 put 2 thickish washers as shims though so it engages the teeth better.

I cant really answer the heat question but I cant see increasing air intake significantly without increasing air out take significantly also on a 2 stroke motor.

The exhaust mod.

Ive opened the air box abit (that square inlet at the bottom of the airbox). I put a small shim in there because I opened it too much. With the #95 jet, I can open that square all the way but there is a dead spot in the idle at about 3/5 throttle; that I think tells me I need a bigger pilot (low throttle jet along with the #95 main jet). I get 42.5 MPH on a nice warm day.

Seems like its getting too much gas or your air filter is clogged.

Have you done any mods to it and if so what mods have you done ? What size are the pilot and main jets ?

And the auto choke plunger does move a few minutes after connecting it to a 12v power source.

even on a good running 49cc scooter, expect 27 MPH or lower on the steeper hills.

bump on thsi

I would like to buy a performance variator also. The only thing stopping me is that I dont know if I should use the stock boss or the boss that come with the new variator.

Also do you use the stock belt or d oyou need to buy a different one thats made of kevlar?

I wouldn't cut the CDI unless I had a spare in case things go wrong. You may be able to buy a de-restricted CDI. But as mentioned, if you can just disconnect a wire, do that as it can easily be reconnected.

Putting in a smooth boss is an important fist step so you can get full belt travel on the pulley otherwise other derestrictions would be useless.

Usually 4 strokes don't have exhaust restrictions and the main restriction is usually the CDI and Boss. Upjetting does help a bit maybe especially when modifying the air intake volume.

Also, possibly some dealers don't want to sell you the bike fully derestricted as it can make the bike illegal. For instance here in Connecticut the law is 2 BHP and 49cc. A fully derestricted 49cc will be more like be 5-6 BHP.

If its a 4 stroke, it may have some sort of CDI restriction. Also the exhaust could possibly be restricted but I wouldn't know for that model and year.
