Bad news. Suspect head gasket burned. I don't know if I will repair it. The mechanic says it was water getting the plug wet.

One good reason to stick to air cooled carborettor models.

This thread just confirmed what I firmly beleive in - just stick to air cooled carborettor models and you will never experience such nonsense.

.........my vibration issues are at idle when scoot is stationary.

At speed everything feels fine, the problem is sitting still at idle........

When the scooter is off the center stand, the wheels are on the ground and you are sitting on the scooter - do you still feel a vibration ?

Or

Does the vibration only occur while the scooter is on the center stand and the wheels are airborne ?
If so, I think the steering column or engine mounts might be loose.

At what stage do you actually feel the vibration ?
During acceleration, when you turn down the throttle, continiously during a ride, and only when the scooter is moving ?

I had a look at the video - the belt on my scoot also slaps a bit when I close the throttle, but I dont think it slaps as much like the belt on your scooter.
Which makes me wonder - do this belt on the scooter bends easier than the other belts in your posession ? Is this belt not “softer” or thinner than the other belts ?

Another thought - are you sure the clutch pads are clean ? I could be wrong but while the belt seem to be slapping a bit too much I think there is a possibility that this could have an effect on the normal behaviour of the big spring on the clutch - the pully might be “opening” and “closing” because the belt might be “grabing” and “releasing” while the belt is slapping.

Movie 150 / Re: Electric fault? Only running on idle
« on: May 01, 2021, 05:53:12 AM »
Clean the carb properly first . When you open the throttle the engine is most probably getting too little fuel and too much air flow - therefore the engine stalls. The carb jets / channels are probably partly blocked.

What happens if you press the starter button without pulling the brakes ?  If the starter does not swing the engine while you are not pulling the brakes your scooter - that is the way the system is suppose to work. I think in such case it is just co-incidence that the engine started when you released the brakes.

Putting it in another way - The only purpose of pulling the brakes is to complete the electric circuit between the battery, ignition switch, starter button, starter solenoid, and starter motor itself. If you don’t pull the brakes, that electric circuit is not complete and the starter motor should not swing when you press the button

Thank you for your reply :)

Yes, there's another way to tell the right position. There are two holes on the camshaft that must be aligned with the engine head surface, but it's really difficult to tell since you don't have the right visual angle. Instead, I relied on the marks on the flywheel but I have this doubt of which one of the two on the flywheel must be aligned with the one on the crankcase cover (as in the picture). In doubt, I put it in the middle of the two but I still remain with the doubt  :)

If you prefer to do the valve clearance settings this way you are at the brink of success !

It’s not difficult at all !  When the two holes are lining up with the cranckcase cover - just have a close look at the position of the camshaft lobes. If the lobes are facing forward ( towards the front wheel ) it meanns the piston in NOT in “TDC” position, (in theory) and you should NOT try to do any valve clearance adjustments.

If the two holes are lining up with  with the cranckcase cover and the two camshaft lobes are facing the rear wheel - BINGO ! The piston will be at TDC position and you can do the valve clearance settings !

Hi everyone. Today I adjusted the valve clearance. But I noticed that turning the engine manually (clockwise and I don't know if it's correct but I think so because I have the flywheel on the exhaust side) it made a bad noise like a coffee grinder. Two years ago I didn't remember making this noise. Is the engine gone?

Second question:

When positioning the flywheel the manual says to align the "T" mark on the flywheel with the mark on the crankcase cover. I don't understand well where I should see a "T". I only see two vertical marks on the flywheel. Anyway, I put the cover mark exactly in the middle of the two flywheel marks. But on the manual the picture is different (the cover mark is aligned with the right flywheel one). Do you think I did wrong and I have to do all the job again? See picture.
Thank you for help

Turning the engine clockwise from the flywheel means you have turned the engine “clockwise”.

I have no knowledge about your scooter models but there is another way to make sure the camshaft is at the correct position when you do valve clearance settings on a two valve engine.
When the camshaft is at the correct position (piston at TDC) - both camshaft lobes will be facing towards the rear end (back wheel) of the scooter.
With the camshaft lobes in this position, the timing marks (according to the service manual) should also line up correctly.
So when the cam lobes are facing backwards on your engine and tou cant see the timing marks, just turn the flywheel very slightly untill the timing marks are lining up correctly. At this point you can do both valve clearance adjustments.

I assume you did not hear the strange engine noise just before you did the adjustments ?
If not, I think there is a possibility that the adjustments have been done incorrectly - and the piston might be hitting the valves when the engine is swinging.
Hopefully this is not the case - otherwise you might have bigger problems.

Agility 125 / Re: Clutch Judder
« on: April 27, 2021, 01:58:40 AM »

So its a 2017 & its done just over 5000km and it was a one owner bike, i have changed the engine oil & transmission oil & chucked in a new spark plug whilst i was there. I have noticed recently clutch judder which from reading is common & i am riding in a manner to overcome this problem (gunning it)  ;D

But i`m a fussy prick & i would like to fix the issue & reading Stigs posts i think he or someone mentions open cooling bells to not only dissipate some heat but clutch dust also, seems logical to me as a motorbike guy. So what are your recommendations on cooling bell, clutch & a thing that`s new to me? variators??

Whilst i`m in there i would also like to change the drive belt so any recommendations on good ones (not cheap crap) and also is there a one stop shop where i can order EVERYTHING from in one go? i am located in Australia but there doesn't seem to be any decent scooter shops that sell the lot, i may even invest in a better breathing exhaust pipe & talking of breathing the standard air filter is crap & i cannot seem to find a K&N replacement? so i`m guessing they don`t make one? (not a cone filter one that`s fits the OEM airbox).

TIA.

Mezo.

The clutch on my Agilty also shudders from time to time.
All you need to do is to remove the bell and clean the clutch pads with sandpaper.
Problem solved.

Technical | How To / Re: Kymco ck1 125 running issue
« on: April 15, 2021, 03:05:42 PM »
Ok, so I bought this ck1 a couple of weeks back and finally got it running I cleaned the carb out as it was gummed up from old fuel, now as you can see the bike will idle no problem but as soon as you give it throttle it tries to die (does die if you keep the throttle), I have a feeling that in my stupidity I didn't drain the old fuel so I'm guessing the petcock maybe has been gummed up and also the fuel lines but what advice could you give that I should also look out for?

(I had to compress and zip the video as this site to let big files)

Thanks everyone

It could be caused by quite a number of things:
1. Old fuel / water in fuel.
2. Air leaks (make sure the lines in the petcock system are not cracked / no air leaks at carb gaskets / connections ).
3. Dirty fuel filter.
4. Blocked air filter.
5. Faulty spark plug.
6. Carb jets still not 100% clean ? (Soak the jets for about 2 days in white vinegar and blow out with an air compressor).

Just a couple of causes I can think of.

Technical | How To / Re: Lost ¾ Quart Oil In 10 Miles
« on: April 13, 2021, 07:33:32 AM »
Went for short ride after an oil change.  A few miles in noticed oil all over the floorboard, came out of vent under front of seat.  Headed straight home. Oil was dripping everywhere underneath.  Drained what was left, got about ¼ quart.  Scoot ran smooth and quiet with good acceleration.  It's a 2018 w 16k miles  (15k put on by me).
Any thoughts?

What scooter is this ?
I am not sure, but if the scooter has a mesh oil filter at the big drain plug and you did not put it back in place there is a chance that the oil pump could pump the oil too fast through the system.
Maybe the oil leak is at the valve cover gasket ?

Yeah the intake was .003 exhaust was .002.

Any luck since the valves clearances have been adjusted ?

I have now checked the valves and set them up correctly.
I have a new cdi coming today and will fit that also will hold a regulator aswell. Thank you very much

Did you find the valve clearance gaps too tight ? If not, I am almost prepared to bet my front teeth the CDI on your scooter was dying.

The CDI’s and Voltage Regulators are the “weak spots” on the Agility 125’s. Those two components are “must have” components as spare parts at all times. At just over 28 000km my Agility is on it’s 3rd CDI and 3rd Voltage Regulator as well. I never ride around without those two spare components inside the luggage box. The spare components got me going within minutes each time I experienced problems along the road.

If the valves are okay it could be a fuel problem, or the CDI on your scooter is dying.

If the engine starts easily after a cuple of minutes (after the engine died) it should not be a fuel problem - the CDI is most probably on it’s way out. I would then just install another one without fiddling elsewhere.

I don’t expect much metal shavings after such low mileage but what magnets do you folks use ?
The cheaper magnets which are quite common normally loose it’s magnetic power at temperatures higher than 80 degree Celsius. I think air cooled engines normally run at higher temperatures.
