Sell the 50cc and get a 150cc :)
It seems like a lot of work to get the 50cc to do what a little bigger bike can do out of the box.
Good luck whatever you do.

Super 8 150 / Re: 125 cc valve clearance
« on: January 07, 2011, 09:26:25 PM »
I can't find the manual for the Super 8 150 either.  That Super 8 50 is good and I can't believe that there isn't one out there for the 125 or 150.
The Dink 125 valve clearance appears to be .1mm for both the intake and exhaust and I have to assume that it is a similar engine.
Do these little guys have shims the valves or are they screw adjusted?
I did the valves on my Honda VFR and had to do 16 valves!  What a pain for no significant change.

When I have to replace my tires, I will probably not go with CST, however, they seem to be doing fairly well so far.
They grip well in the rain, which is a big thing for me.  I'm not sure what problems are having with these tires, but there is a lot of negative talk about them.
With that said, I have always thought that the general ride of the Super 8 is a bit harsh, which I mainly attribute to the suspension and hard seat.
I added foam to the seat and that helped quite a bit.
The good thing about the hard suspension is that the scoot tracks well on smooth roads.

Ooops, ignore the link to the part for the regulator rectifier unless you have a Vespa.
Here is one for cheap:

It is a pain to find parts for Kymco scooters, or at least "factory" OEM products.
It is hit or miss with some of these Asian supply companies.

Cheers

It could be your regulator rectifier.  I have had them go out on motorcycles and had the same problems that you are having.
They are expensive, so do check the voltage if you can.  It could also be a short someplace.
You will need a multimeter for this and a manual (see below).

Here is a replacement regulator rectifier:

http://www.scooterwest.com/item_details/P-PX-AC-DC-Regulator-Rectifier-12V-5-Pole/2589

It could be your generator, but let's hope not...

Here is a sweet link to a people 150 user manual, which may help you find the problem:

Kymco People 125-150 EN

And then it could be your battery, so test that yourself as mentioned in another post or have a motorcycle shop do it.

I hate electrical problems.  Good luck.

It is one thing to drag the ends of the pegs on a motorcycle, but catching the metal on my kick stand is another.
I have been liking the kick stand as an option, which my expensive Vespa did not have.
I may take it off just to be safe.

I was riding my Super 8 the other day and was making a sharp left turn at the top of a hill.
The kick stand was up but hit the asphalt and made a loud scraping noise.  There may have even been sparks.
I wobbled a bit but was able to get control quickly.  There was no damage other than a scraped piece of metal at the kick stand.
Has anyone else had this happen?

Agility 125 / Re: Tire Pressure: How Low Is Too Low?
« on: January 04, 2011, 09:14:53 PM »
Mr. Kymco

You cracked me up with the wrench discussion.
I hope you got the Metric set.  The color coded sockets look interesting.
Keep your tires as close to specified as possible.  I have the stock tires (CST) on my Super 8 and have not had a problem with them even in the wet.
Keep them clean and inspect for bits of junk that could cause a puncture.
I use a bicycle pump to add air to the tires since they require so little air.
When I had a Vespa, I have had a flat from a slow leak and it was a pain to fix.  I had to twist the mechanics arm to get him to plug it for me.  The plug held well, but I only trust it for a temporary fix.
I find my Kymco to be a solid machine in build quality, performance and aesthetics.  I have owned Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha machines and the Kymco is not far behind in quality and is certainly worth the price.

Grandvista 250 / Re: Tubed tires?

The Grand Vista should have tubeless tires as do the vast majority of scoots and motorcycles.
Glad you survived the blow out!

Technical | How To / Re: Super 8 150 belt change
« on: December 30, 2010, 05:50:00 PM »
Thanks for the replies.
It looks like I will need to get into the clutch and see if there are any problems there.
I only have 2000 miles on the bike and am fairly gentle with it.
I have looked at those videos regarding the belt/clutch removal and some use impact wrenches and some brace the pulleys with different tools.
I will figure something out...
On one video, the guy was able to get the belt off without removing either pulley, but that seems impossible with the Super 8.

Cheers

Technical | How To / Super 8 150 belt change
« on: December 28, 2010, 06:19:44 PM »
Has anyone replaced the belt on a Super 8 150?
My belt has been slipping.  It could be the clutch, but it sure feels like the belt is slapping around in there.
I have taken the case cover off and had a look.  Some belt dust is all that I have seen.
I have been riding in the cold weather (30's to 40's) and wonder if the cold is having an effect.
What kind of impact wrench will do the job to remove the pulleys?
Can you recommend a belt that you know fits the Super 8 150?

Thanks

General Discussion / Cold Weather Test
« on: November 24, 2010, 06:50:54 PM »
I'm sure there are folks who have ridden in colder weather, but here is my story.
I live and commute in Portland Oregon and it is usually fairly mild in the winters, but we do get our cold snaps.
It got down to 20 degrees for my ride to work this morning, down seven degrees from yesterday.
The roads are generally clear from my house to downtown.
My Super 8 started right up after being in a cold garage.  I let it warm for a few minutes.  It stalled when I first tried to give it the gas, but it started right up again.
The first few minutes were a little tough on the small engine as it gasped for warmth, but it kept running.
After about ten minutes, she was warm and running just fine.
I had my full winter gear on, including a balaclava head piece, so all was warm except for my finger tips, which got fairly frozen by the end of my fifteen minute ride.
I have to venture across the Steel bridge, which was a bit frosty.  I just took my time and made my turns wide.  I did not slip as far as I could tell, but I was ready to put my feet down to brace myself.
I arrived at the garage that I park at with a smile on my face, which would be completely invisible due to my full face helmet and ninja style head wrap.  I was immediately greeted by a gal getting out of her car.  Turns out she usually rides a fancy Harley Fat Boy to work and thought that I was kind of crazy for riding today.
Wish me luck in getting the scooter started after a day in the parking garage a below freezing temps.

General Discussion / Re: trailer hitch
« on: November 11, 2010, 05:27:41 PM »
Go with an actual motorcycle hitch trailer.
The rack that you show could be modified to carry the scoot, assuming that it can handle the weight.
It may be challenged by the rear weighting of a scooter though.
