Technical | How To / Re: AMSOIL Scooter Oil
« on: August 28, 2022, 09:19:13 AM »
If the dealer recommended it I bet it's considerably more expensive then other brands of synthetics. Motorcycles that share crankcase oil with a wet clutch need a special oil but why would a scooter need a "scooter" oil?
Because a car isn't designed to be kept in second gear and driven on the freeway. There are a lot of differences between a car engine and a scooter engine, and motorcycle rated oil is designed to compensate for those differences.

Not that you can start the Kymco 2T engine without the cover on, but if you could, that might be informative.
When you put the polini variator on, are the same number of threads showing on the outside of the nut as with the stock variator after you tighten the bolt with an impact? What is the part number of the polini variator you installed?

Kymco News / Re: Kawa-Kymco??? Kymco-Saki??? 400 CC Kymco bike

Kymco makes all of Kawasaki's scooters, and, as was pointed out, most of their small ATVs. Kymco also makes a lot of their midsize engines, and 250cc based engines for Arctic Cat. Kymco also makes the engines for that 4 wheel thing from Switzerland, the Quaddro. TGB makes Morini motors for the Suzuki 50cc scooters and the 400cc Morini motor used in a lot of ATVS, including the Arctic Cat. The version made in China is the one used in the K429 Burgman until 2006. The Kymco 400 is basically the same motor as the Kymco 500 with a smaller diameter cylinder. You can usually tell by the size of the rollers who made the engine. Kymco is now providing most of the variators and clutches to Yamaha, in addition to Honda.  Kymco also makes a lot of parts for PGO, and they both make the GY6 engine Kymco (not Honda) invented. PGO also makes a 250cc engine that is identical to the Kymco 250. The BMW 400 Scooter is built by a company called Voge, out of China and has nothing to do with Kymco.

I think if I decide to use them, I will install interleaved

14-15-14-15-14-15-14-15

What do you think about ????
It's a bad idea. The pressure against the belt will be inconsistent and cause premature wear to the aluminum parts and the brass bushing.

« on: June 20, 2022, 02:18:19 AM »
Whatever grease you use, do so SPARINGLY! The front sleeve needs only a very thin film of lube. Very THIN film. The needle roller bearing in the rear pulley needs a thin layer of grease periodically. There will be some grease that escapes past its little separate seal. That needs to be cleaned off periodically, too.

The philosophy is: no grease gets on the belt or pulley faces. Ever.
No, you want to pack the rear sleeve with grease. It does leak out during the life of the clutch, but not where the belt can touch it. Most rear pulley failures are caused by this idea that just a little dab'll do ya on the needle bearings. If you've ever looked at a Honda factory service manual, they will show you that the fourth hole in the rear plate, that doesn't take a pin, is for filling the part with grease. Use way more than you think you should, then block the end of the outer bearing with your finger when you press the clutch onto the shaft.

It's a version of the first generation Honda SH 150 engine with a big bore kit. SYM uses it, and so does Keeway. Solid engine, not much performance.

If the bike has been sitting a long time, fresh gas is about the best thing you can put in it. Most of these magic potions require  you to run the bike for a while to get the effect, which is the same effect you get if you put in fresh gas and run the bike for a while. If you let it get up to temperature, and run it for a while, the engine cleans itself. That's the instructions on all the mechanic in a bottle products people claim cause the bike to run smoother.  So you're adding money to the tank and letting the bike do what it's going to do anyway.

Make sure they haven't changed the wristpin diameter. Leave the battery disconnected for a while and hope that when you plug it back in, the ECU can recalibrate for the change in displacement. If it won't, you might need something like the Malossi Forcemaster to get enough gas to it.

Lot of reasons scooters might become popular and start replacing cars, many of those reasons due more and more to necessity rather than choice.  In terms of "buying low" and getting ahead of the curve, this may be an opportune time to get into scooters--sit down, stand up, and other forms of 2-3 wheel transport, both motorized and manual  (skateboards, etc).  Younger generations sure look posed to go in that direction.
The main reason people ride scooters is that they can't afford cars. whether this is the initial price of a car, the cost of fuel, or the cost to park one in a major city. Until the US becomes a country where people can't afford cars, the scooter market is going to remain about where it is.

All the Agility models are made in China. I have a Vitality 50, which was made in Taiwan. It's a great scooter, but was very expensive when Kymco brought it to the US. They retailed for about what a Honda or Yamaha did.

You can get the Malossi Kevlar belt, made in Japan by Bando, for $90.

Maybe it's just a US differnce. Since I've never seen a single parts company reference the US models, but use the Euro "eco cat" model line for reference instead. The Euro people 50s in general,  had ceased production by 2005.

Polini isn't wrong. They're not based in the US.

Try and pull up aftermarket parts for the People 50 2t, with a US model number BA10AD. Then try and do the same with the Europe only model numbers BF10AC or BF10AG.
Lol. Kymco isn't based in the US either. And the engine is the same, no matter where they sell it.  Nothing is internally different between the one someone buys in Milano, Taipei or Omaha.

Get the cams tested for hardness BEFORE installation!! The hardness/heat treatment was
The problem with all cam failures. Don't let them talk you out of it!
I'm guessing you think they'll do that for free, right? Most shops don't do this, and would have to send it out.
