X500 is very comfortable. I am at 65,000 miles right now. Only break down was the stator at around 55,000 miles. Keep the belt and variator stock, and you will have no problems with belt issues and such. You can really stretch out on the X500. And has all the power you would want. 2009 and up are fuel injected. Some people have said they had cold start issues? At around 30 degree's or so. All the bike needs is a tiny more juice because of F I pump taking a little more juice. I recommend a TRUE GEL or LITHIUM battery if you have cold weather in your area? Both have more cranking amps. You will not be disappointed.  :-*

Thanks, does anyone know how to lower the rpm's? The only heavy-er roller weights I can find are Dr pulley 31 gram weights. Only 1 gram diff. I have heard the new stock X500 weights are 33 gram? Is this true? Kymco usa says they don't know the weight, and can't find out from Kymco Taiwan? Ya right. The roller part numbers are new for both the carb and or fuel ing models. The number is listed as a new replacement part number for all X500's? 33 g would be great, but how would I know?  :-*

They used to be about 40 bucks. But last time I checked was several years ago.  :-*

Please note about the improvements that J Cost has made that I spoke of. It looks like they have re-vamped the entire variator system. What rpm's are you running at 65 mph with the malossi variator. 80 miles per tank is horrible. My light comes on at about 120 miles. If 80 is all the malossi get's, I think I will pass on that brand. What did the J Costa do for your Tmax? Did it lower rpm's at freeway speeds? Or did it just about stay the same? That's what I'm looking for. If I can not lower rpm's at 75, then I will buy something else.  :-*

Did you have to drill holes to install your new screen?  :-*

Xciting 500 / J Costa variator.

I have read that J Costa has completely re-vamped their entire variator line. All new metals, the coatings of individual parts, steal instead of aluminum on/in the bell etc. Sounds like all the bugs have been worked out? Has anyone put this on their X500? And if so has the rpm's dropped at freeway speeds? I just road a 2003 Aprilia Atlantic scooter with a 460 cc engine. It turns 6'000 rpm's at 80 mph!!!! Get's 55 mpg at 75 mph, and will do 100 mph. My 2007 X500 is spinning 8.000 rpm at 80 mph. At 80 I would be lucky to get 40 mpg if that? I am going to buy a new scooter or bike soon, but I am done with crap mpg and screaming rpm's at freeway speeds. Is there anyway to lower rpm's on the X500's? I can't stand riding at 65 all day long on freeways anymore. I am going to get run over and die. After about 65,000 miles of this I am ready for a change. I would like to get a new X500, but I need to be able to cruise at 75 or more without feeling like the engine is going to blow. And the Aprilia has a 4.5 gallon tank to boot! But the scooter has to many other issues to deal with that can't seem to be fixed. So I am not going down that road again as I had to do with my Harley's. (JUNK). Anyone used this variator? Have anyone used a polini variator? The Dr Pulley variator, or Mallosi? Let me know. There are some great deals on new X500's out there, but all I do is tour, and stopping for gas every 100 miles or so is getting old as is the screaming engine.  :-*

Coils are pretty cheap. If power is getting to the coil, but there is no spark? Then my first move would be to replace the coil. Also, stick in a new plug, and then see if there is a spark? You never know? Stranger things have happened? Also, the engine will crank when the side stand is down, but will not fire up? Your side stand switch may have gone out ? There is a side stand wiring by-pass trick you can do also. Put it on the center stand and kick the side stand up and down a few times and see if she fires up. It may be one of those hit and miss works sometimes but not always intermittent problems? Good luck.  :-*

Your bike isn't even broke in yet? Ride without concern. I have over 63,000 miles on my 2007. Many 700 plus mile days, and my longest day was 1,004 miles. I have rode from Arizona to Michigan and back twice.  :-*

I have heard that the J C does boost performance, but the thumb shaped spindles wear out on one side very fast. Every one who had one hated it, and went back to stock. Stay away and save your self hundreds of bucks. :-*

Stay with stock. All you need is this plug leaving you in the middle of know where. Or damaging the engine.  :-*

My first belt lasted over 30,000 mile. But all I do is tour. I would not recommend doing this much miles on the belt if you do very much city driving. I think 25,000 is a good time to replace. You can also pop off the varator cover and measure the width.  :-*

« on: May 14, 2016, 04:05:23 PM »
if it was glazing on the pads, and not grease, then I would say the entire clutch assembly is not aligned correctly? It sounds like it was bad right out of the factory? The grease was more than likely from a seal in the torque drive than the variator as the grease there is a very tiny amount put on the plastic dust seal. This is just a tiny dab of grease on the tip of the finger, and run over the lip of the seal to lube it before sliding it over the boss. How could a factory worker slather on a soon full of grease on the variator? It would take at least a soon full or more to cause this?  This has happened to a few bikes. Maybe a bad run at the factory? How could there be a high spot on the pads? Really? Impossible.  I would at least take apart the drive and make sure there is grease, and that the seal is in place and in good condition. And then put on a new clutch and belt. If this happens again after doing this, then go for the lemon law and get a full refund. My two cents.  :-*

Google Russell day long seats. Pricey, but worth every cent. I have had 3 of them. Perfect, I would not waist my money on any other seat! Sorry, but corbin touring seats absolutely suck. They are made to look cool, not for comfort on long trips. I and other people have bought bikes with corbin touring seats. Every person with out exception has had to go back to the stock seat, or get another seat. I and they were in agony with in a few miles. Horrible, just horrible! >:( :'( :-*

I think the BV is a fine bike. But it really has little wind protection for the highway.  I wish they would bring in the new X10 500. It was made for comfort and touring. No sports bike crap, great ride, seat, 42 HP and a 4.1 or 2 gallon tank. This would be my next scoot if they brought it in to the USA, and if I could afford it that is. It would probably be around 10 grand or so? :-*
