General Discussion / Re: AK 550 forum

Be helpful to get the views of an Admin or similar?…

I have seen forums like this split before, and they're never quite the same - you lose the years of topics and the reference material that makes forums so special.

I have been toying with the idea of approaching the admins to see if they'd consider handing the forum over, subject to it's running costs not being too mad. I work in IT, although I admit the phpBB would be a stretch for me. I'll mull it over. I think retaining the forum with it's topics is really important.

Often I think the spannering is as much fun as the riding.

Looks like you have an excellent work space there!

A 125/150 is good for at least 50,000 miles if properly maintained :)

If they bring that XR150 to the UK as the XR125 (we have different learner laws) I will go down to the Honda showroom and buy one. I may have to sell a kidney first.

Could be wrong, but I don’t recall either model designation here in the UK, but I’m sure Viper will correct me if I’m wrong?

I think they were in the UK, but don't seem to have been very popular at all.

I thought it was. Here in missouri we do not need emissions inspections for motorcycles, only safety. Although it would help with tuning the engine.

O2 sensor is pretty critical for feeding back to the fuel injection system!

On previous scoots I've removed it early on, copper greased the threads and replaced it, as they tend to seize on as time goes by.

General Discussion / Re: have you ever bought used tires?
« on: May 16, 2023, 09:31:01 AM »
I've used secondhand tyres on the car and the bikes. It's just what the budget dictates, which I'm uncomfortable with, but hey, that's the cost of living sometimes.

It's a yearning of mine to get back to the Manx too.  As for Avons - only tried them once.  Does that answer your question?

We all love a good Avon Roadslider.

I have only owned three cars, but my first - the 2001 998cc Toyota Yaris I had was problem my favourite. Absolute simplicity, and saw 200K miles before we sold it on to buy something with 5 doors. It was a horrendous snot green colour

“Whatever that meant”? Really Viper?  Shame on you!  The Manx GP held every September on the IoM is the stepping stone to the TT and a specialist meet for classic machinery ineligible for the TT. Been a few times and for my money it’s a better event than the TT as it’s so much more laid back and friendly. Last went in 2016.

I did know - he talked about ALL THE TIME :) it was very poor sarcasm.

He was a true racer, just his personal life was such a mess that I think it held him back.

I'd love to go one year.

I always liked Avon

See, I was avoiding mentioning my favourites/hates but I hate Avons with a passion, although I know other people love them - it really is horses for courses out there.

If you like the Duros, stick with them. I quite like those tyres.

I have learned over the last 15 years what tyres I do and don't like, and it doesn't necessarily align with what *should* be good.

An ex-racer friend of mine (he'd done the Manx, whatever that meant) swore by Maxxis towards the end of his riding career.

I guess the plastic kit for this is available. I looked at the article but can not remember where it's sold.
Valves adjustment ? I thought that you guys said with modern technology you don't need to worry about this.

I don't think they need doing all that often, but the valves on a PCX or a Yamaha NMAX are notoriously tricky to sort.

« on: March 09, 2023, 01:05:57 PM »
About all I do is think about getting another motorcycle.  The scooters have spoiled me with better MPG,  the storage under the seat, better weather protection. But then that Royal Enfield Classic 350 sure looks good to me.

Art

Having ridden one and very nearly bought it at the dealership 6 months ago, I can confirm the Classic 350 is an absolutely storming ride.
