Agility 50 / Variator Damage
« on: August 05, 2011, 02:05:20 AM »
Hey again all :-)

So after my scooter was making some noises and going significantly slower, I decided to open up the variator area and it pretty much looks like this

Some of the holders on the metal plate were broke and the rollers had big jacks in them...

Anyway, I guess the best thing is to buy everything new but I'm not sure what has better quality/price ratio. And what should I think of when buying a new variator?

Agility 50 / China regulators
« on: January 06, 2011, 04:25:27 PM »
I found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/50-70-90-110cc-Voltage-Regulator-ATV-Birt-Bike-Moped-/160517980949?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item255f9e0315#ht_4108wt_939
I was wondering if a regulator from china is just crap or if they are all the same?

I guess the components inside may be lacking quality but buying from the US does not necessary mean good quality components right?

I think I may need a new one but will make sure tomorrow when I will have some time to do some measurements. If this is no good, anyone know a place that sells good regulators?

Agility 50 / High idle RPM
« on: December 20, 2010, 06:19:15 PM »
Hey again ( I know I know, so many questions! hehe)
When the scooter starts up from being cold, the RPM's are quite high... Not crazy high but high enough to make the back wheel spin slowly. After a few minutes of riding, the RPM's go down to normal RPM but if I just leave it idling it feels like it won't go down (was waiting 15 minutes and it was the same)... Then I started riding and few minutes into it, the idle went down to normal.
It doesn't bother me but I don't know if this is very good for the clutch or engine since I have to hold the break so it doesn't move me forward at red lights.

Is it just the scooter being cold and needs a better warm-up or is something wrong with it?

Other than that, the scooter is running fine... If anyone was wondering, the 2010 model does not seem to have any changes in the restrictions. I cut the wire inside the CDI box, changed the variator bushing and added some 5.5g Dr. Pulley Sliding Roller weights. The acceleration is very even and top speed on the meter seems to be somewhere between 45mph and 50mph on flats, so I guess around 40mph in real speed?

Agility 50 / Headlight is weak
« on: December 11, 2010, 02:11:45 AM »
Hey again
One thing I've noticed when riding in the evening is that the headlight is weak... I've heard people say it's pretty weak but I'm starting to doubt this is what they meant. To explain it in a way I hope you guys understand; it looks like when a flashlight is about out of batteries. If I switch between the low and high beam there's no difference in strength but when I push down the passing light, the light gets strong (looks like it's supposed to). I could be wrong but I think the headlight worked fine before, but I've only been riding 3 times at night and two of those I noticed the light was pretty weak. Just wondering if you guys have any idea's what to look for.

Agility 50 / Air filter smells like gas
« on: December 03, 2010, 05:15:30 PM »
Hey all
Is the air filter supposed to smell like gasoline? I had a small drop of oil or something just where the outtake is inside the air box and my filter had an odor of gasoline... Is this normal or is something wrong?

Agility 50 / Hot weather and de-restricted scooter
« on: November 25, 2010, 04:55:53 PM »
I live in Miami and in the summers it can be up to 100F. Now during 'winter' it's around 80F.
Would it be a bad idea to cut the wire on the CDI, making the RPM's higher and correct me if I'm wrong but make the engine hotter?
I rarely ride less than 30 mins at a time when I get to places, sometimes it could be 2 hours.

I understand that I could throttle less and keep the RPM's lower but wouldn't that make the de-restriction kind of useless?

I'm sorry if I missed something about this or if I just sound stupid in general but I am completely new to these things!

Agility 50 / Now it's here
« on: November 22, 2010, 01:00:16 AM »
So I was finally able to make some time to go look at scooters... Unfortunately they only had 2010 models which were a little more than I expected but I'm still happy :)

OTD total was $2145, that's including helmet, on-guard chain lock, title, tag and registration and dealer fee and the new 2010 Kymco Agility 50 4t scooter of course :-P

He could not lower the price on the scooter but I got a 30% discount on the helmet and the lock.

General Discussion / Your state or countries law for Scooters
« on: November 18, 2010, 02:07:56 AM »
Everytime I talk to the DMV of Florida I get more and more confused
How are the State or Country laws for you? What about parking?

Here are some answers I've got from DMV of Florida

Motor Scooters are not defined in the Florida Statutes refering to titling and registering of vehicles.  However, if they fit the definition of a motorcycle defined in the Florida Statutes they must be titled and registered if they are operated or driven upon the roads of Florida.

Florida Statutes defines "Motorcycle" - Any motor vehicle having a seat or saddle for the use of the rider and designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, but excluding a tractor or a moped.  Title and Registration is required and can be operated on the roadways of Florida.

Florida Statutes defines "Moped" - Any vehicle with pedals to permit propulsion by human power, having a seat or saddle for the use of the rider and designed to travel on not more than three wheels; with a motor rated not in excess of 2 brake hoursepower and not capable of propelling the vehicle at a speed greater than 30 miles per hour on level ground; and with a power-drive system that functions directly or automatically without clutching or shifting gears by the operator after the drive system is engaged.  If an internal combutions engine is used, the displacement may not exceed 50 cubic centimeters.  Registration is required, no title is required and the vehicle can be operated on the roadways of Florida.

Florida Statutes defines "Motorized Scooter" - Any vehicle not having a seat or saddle for the use of the rider, designed to travel on not more than three wheels, and not capable of propelling the vehicle at a speed greater than 30 miles per hour on level ground.  This type scooter cannot be titled or registered in State of Florida and cannot be operated on the roadways or sidewalks.

Full-time students are allowed to drive on a European driver license, assuming it is otherwise valid and not expired. You may drive mopeds or scooters whose engine is less than 50 cc's in size. Anything larger, such as a scooter or motorcycle which has an engine over 50 cc's in size would require a motorcycle endorsement on whatever license you have.

So from my understanding, I can ride a <50CC scooter on my European License (I'm a full time student) but I need to title and register it as a motorcycle to operate it on the road, right?

Agility 50 / New to the Scooter Family
« on: November 14, 2010, 09:01:38 PM »
Hi everyone

I am new here but also new to the scooter family, or actually I am not there yet :)
I have been doing some research for the past few days and decided to take the step and a few hundred dollars up from the china scooters to hopefully something with more quality and reliability.
What I've found so far is that Kymco makes some good, affordable scooters.

So to not break my bank I found the Agility 50 4t to be quite affordable, a new seems to be about $1600 around here. This is really pushing my limit though.

My question for you guys here would be if the Agility 50 4t is as reliable as Kymco seems to be known for, or if the model has had some quality cut-downs to lower the price.

I really don't mind the speed being restricted to 30mph but I don't mind doing minor tweaks. I just don't want to worry about being stranded halfway to my destination every time I take the scooter out.

Thank you for your time!
