General Discussion / Sold My Ak550 and Have spare parts
« on: May 12, 2022, 05:56:23 PM »
Hi All,

After taking a few longer rides with AK550, I realized I wanted a roomier bike. I traded the AK for an African Twin (I know big jump)

Anyway I had intended to keep the AK and ordered spare parts. I don't have the complete list but I have 3 Hiflo Oil Filters, some smaller parts, like the oil screen, an extra plastic oil cap for the screen and some o-rings. Last and biggest thing is Easy boost Variator tool.

If anyone that lives close enough to come to Thousand Oaks, CA is interested let me know. All unused of course. I also have a 4 liters of Motul 7100 10-40 oil I won't be needing.

Thanks

General Discussion / AK 550 Owners Near Thousand Oaks, California
« on: June 27, 2021, 02:12:59 AM »
Wondering if there are any other AK550 owners in or near Thousand Oaks, California, I can meet up with. Wanted to compare something I feel while slowing down at about 20 mph. I feel a brief vibration/clunk. Wondering if it's me being too sensitive. My guess is that it's the clutch or CVT disengaging. I've had other CVT scooters and they had similar characteristics, but this feels different. The motor is great with more than enough power. Shifts are solid (I think that is still the correct term for CVT). Handles like a standard MC and brakes well. I've owned quite a few motorcycles and scooters over the years and the AK is the most comfortable I've owned.

Before I drop it off at the dealer, I was hoping to compare with another AK.

Thanks

Hi AK550 Owners.

I have about 700 miles on my AK550. From the beginning I noticed a vibration, may more of clunk during deceleration at about 20-22 mph (32-35 kph).

My guess is it's the clutch/transmission disengaging or something like that. The scooter runs fine, without any noticeable issues.

Changed the oil and filter about 100 miles ago and no change and runs great.

Have any other AK owners noticed this characteristic?

General Discussion / Using non-Kymco Oil Filters
« on: February 17, 2021, 12:13:42 AM »
Sorry to start another topic on the oil filter.

I was taking a look at underside of the AK 550. In another thread I asked a question about using a BMW filter of perhaps a HIFLOFILTRO brand.

Well, to my surprise, the oil filter on my brand new AK 550 is the HIFLOFILTRO HF-164.

I am under the impression that motorcycle/scooters come filled with oil from the factory. Maybe that's not the case or Kymco uses HIFLO as the OEM manufacturer.

Technical | How To / Using Non-Kymco Branded Oil Filter
« on: February 08, 2021, 05:23:38 AM »
Purchased an AK 550 this weekend. The service manual shows first oil change at 180 miles/300 Kilometers. I plan to change the oil myself or possibly a local no-Kymco shop.

I did some research on the Oil Filter and discovered that there is a BMW oil filter that is identical (At least according to HIFLOFILTRO catalogue and a few other online sources).

I was thinking I'll buy the BMW version. Any thoughts why that would not be a good idea?

Thanks

General Discussion / Shopping for an AK 550 - Update
« on: January 27, 2021, 05:10:27 PM »
Update: Picked up the AK 550 this weekend. Ridden about 130 miles so far. All types of roads (urban streets, canyon and freeway). Pretty much what I expected from all the reviews. Plenty of power, great brakes and comfortable seating.

Thank you all for your comments.

I have been shopping for an AK 550 in Southern California and wanted to provide some observations about the shopping experience. Bear in mind the closest Kymco dealers to my home are 50 plus miles away.

The three dealers I spoke are asking between $650 and $2150 ADM. That doesn't include setup about another $350. Dealers can ask whatever they want and we can choose to buy or not. Kymco makes great products, however asking prices well above MSRP is not going to help the brand grow in the US. I'm not an expert, but if AK 550 sales are too weak Kymco may not continue to offer AK 550 in the US.

With that being said...I'm curious if anyone on this forum has purchased the AK in the US and how close + or - to MSRP have you paid.

General Discussion / Xciting 400i Gear Oil Level Confirmation
« on: January 21, 2019, 11:00:02 PM »
I decided to do the first service this weekend on my 400i.

Before draining the gear box oil, I went for short ride to warm up the oil. Measured 200ml and filled the gear box. The oil started dripping out of the filler hole before the measured oil was used up. I waited for the oil to stop dripping and replaced the bolt.

Everything I see states that gear oil level is correct when its below the filler hole. The oil seems to be laying right on the lower part of filler hole threads.

For those of you who do your own fluid changes. Based on my description. Do you think the gear oil level is correct?

Thank you.

General Discussion / New Southern California Xciting 400 Owner
« on: December 19, 2018, 04:57:04 PM »
Hi all,
Purchased a new Xciting 400 this weekend. Had a Vespa GTS 300 but wanted a scooter that was more highway friendly. I also own a Vstrom 650.

Read a good number of comments and reviews about the 400i and Kymco in general. Decided on the 400i for the roominess (I'm 6' 2"), sporty feel and look, right balance of power/economy and a good $$$ value. The other options were at least a $1k more and didn't feel comfortable.
My only concern is the weak dealer network.

Looking forward to some nice riding. Any tips or suggestion for upgrades would be appreciated. Especially, windscreen suggestions.

Enjoying this forum as well.
