For Sale / FS: NYC 2012 Super 8 50 2T. Factory warranty until 5/2017
« on: August 30, 2015, 03:48:26 PM »
I bought a brand new 2012 leftover in 5/2015 from an authorized Kymco dealer but I'm ready to move on to something bigger. Here's a link to the craigslist ad:

Super 8 / What jets/carb? 2012 Super 8 50 2t.
« on: July 02, 2015, 03:31:56 AM »
I'm ready to start ordering parts to upgrade my bike. Believe me I've researched this but I'm coming up short. All I need to know is what model Keihin carb these bikes use so I can order the correct jets, and also what size opening the air filter is so I can order a pod-filter as well. Thanks to anyone who can help.

They don't look like dummy bulbs though. I can actually see the filament. Not that I need them to work I just was wondering why they'd be included.

Super 8 / What do these little lights do?

On my 2012 Super 8 there's two small light bulbs adjacent to the actual headlight bulbs. If this was a car I would know them to be "city lights" and I'm guessing the function is the same here, however I've never seen them come on nor do I see a way for them to be turned on. What do they do?

Still haven't done anything yet. I have the unrestricted boss waiting to go in but I'm thinking of going a little further, meaning opening up the intake and the exhaust a bit. I have about 160 miles now and I noticed that it's "opened up" a bit. For example I'm actually able to hit 30mph now and sometimes a little more if there's a downgrade. I would like to hit at least 35mph. I would like to ditch the stock airbox altogether and go with a cone/pod style filter. I just need to know what size the carb inlet is. Also in terms of exhaust I don't know how much of an improvement the Techinigas Silent Pro is over stock.

I'm not trying to hit 50mph here, just want to be able to keep up with traffic a little better. I have a feeling I might be selling this scooter next year for a real motorcycle so there's not sense in modding the heck out of it.

FWIW I just was at the dealer having some minor warranty work done and I was checking out a new Super 8 150 they had on the showroom floor. One shock, just like my 50.

Super 8 / Re: Leaking 2 stroke oil under bike.

It wasn't overfilled. The tank was half empty and was still leaking. I just came back from the dealer and he said he had to replace a seal and that they've seen it happen on a few of these. He wasn't specific about what seal.

I don't know much since I've only owned one of these for 2 weeks but isn't the frame & suspension the same as the Super 8 150? That does 50+ out of the box doesn't it?

On another topic of tuning, on the carb, there is an airscrew hidden under a brass cap. Once that cap is removed, you can cut a slot in the screw or use a special 3 quid "D" shaped socket. I find it fairly essential to be able to adjust that screw when doing the derestriction mods mentioned above.

You may find you dont need to adjust that screw at all; but I like it to be available for maybe a slight adjustment when the weather temperature changes from 90F to 50F. My screw is about 1-1/8 turns out right now.

What exactly does this screw do? It's not an idle-speed screw I'm guessing.

Yeah I probably won't drill them out since they only cost a few $ each. Any merit in upgrading the carburetor since i'll end up having it off anyway? I've heard that the older People 50 has a 18mm carb and also comes with quite a bit more power from the factory.

I just ordered the smooth boss and now need to order jets. Where do I buy them? I'm going to buy a variety of them to make things easier in the future as I increase my fueling requirements.

Well I took the cap off and had a look. It's still nearly full. I'll give it another week and see if it stops. If not then I'll start taking stuff apart.

If they over-filled it badly it could drip for a week after the overfill. Not too many places the bike can leak 2t. Is there just a drop a day kind of leak?

It's a bit more than a drop a day. It's more like several drops wherever I park it. I haven't had to add oil to it myself yet, so how does one avoid overfilling? Don't you just fill it up to the top?

Super 8 / Leaking 2 stroke oil under bike.

So my brand new 2012 Super 8 2t seems to be leaking 2 stroke oil directly undereneath the floorboards. At first I assumed that the dealer overfilled it, but it's been several days and I've got about 20 miles on it, but it's still consistently leaking, even when not being ridden. I would just bring it to the dealer for warranty service but they're a good 30 mins away and I figured I would diagnose the problem myself so they can order the part ahead of time if necessary. I'm just about to the point of taking things apart to find the leak, but before I do is there anything that would be the most likely?

Pic attached.

It probably doesn't. The revs start climbing after 20mph and seem quite high by the time I actually do hit 30mph. So start with the smooth boss and 82 jet? Should I leave the rollers and contra spring alone?
