General Discussion / Re: NSR: buying local...

Dad always beat this drum - buy from the local guy.  Keep your friends and neighbors in business.

Works for me - saving a little money by going to the chains or internet is not always the best way to buy.  I'd be fooked if the local ACE hardware went out of business.  Most of the small hardware and lumberyards are gone, along with the service, quality products, and specialty items.

And always try to buy products made in your country if possible if you have a choice.  'Nuff said.

General Discussion / Shoutout for Leeson's Import Motors
« on: January 13, 2022, 06:16:02 PM »
Big box arrived via UPS Tuesday evening.  I mean a big box - 24" x 24" x 32" - containing new body panels for my '06 Bet & Win.  Very well packed and protected for the journey.

I was pleased that Kymco still had these body panels available.  The big front piece, underpanel, mirror, and trans cover.  All to replace panels that I scarred up in an August slide on the asphalt last year.  I think it was cheaper to replace the panels rather than repair and repaint.

Yeah, it took a while for all of them to arrive at Leeson's.  Rick in internet sales also held them for a couple of weeks so they would not ship out with the Christmas package rush per my request.  Wanted to lessen the chance of any shipping damage.

Have ordered from them in the past when parts are available and they have been a great source of Kymco parts.

Hi Win - nice to see the pics of Mrs K!  Hopefully she will get the scooter bug and you can share more adventures together.

I'm always pleased to have Mrs V lead me on our outings, doesn't hurt my manhood at all.  Sometimes I have a hard time keeping up with her!

Bikes are all put away now, and snow has made it's appearance.  Gotta check on the parts status for the Bet & Win - been three months and have heard nothing about the body parts that are on order.  New parts are cheaper than having the scarred up ones repaired.  Hopefully they show up before spring!

Bet & Win 250 / Re: Carb Notes
« on: October 14, 2021, 11:16:40 PM »
Glad it helped someone!  Hadn't been around here for a bit, and thought I would check today.

The B&W has been a bit of a PITA for another issue - hard to start after sitting idle for a few days and dying for no apparent reason.   Would be running fine, and start to stumble and sometimes die, particularly when hot outside.  Figured it was a fuel issue.

Chased around the 'net and found a OEM fuel pump and installed it.  Worked well for a while, and then the hard statring began again. Would fire up, then once fuel was out of the carb bowl, would be hard to fire back up - if it would.

So about a year after the last vacuum fuel pump replacement, it just crapped out totally.  Bought a fuel pump for a Vespa GT200 and installed it.  Not a perfect fit, but the scoot ran well after install.  I'll see how long it lasts; don't know if ethanol eats them up or what.  Just getting tired of the same issues with an otherwise Very Nice scooter.

People s200 / Re: Belt Change

Yeah, loosing strength in the hands is another thing that sucks about growing old.  I have a small block of oak about 1" wide that I have put between the pulleys on the torque driver near the shaft.  Seems like when I take both hands, squeeze and twist, it opens up and I am able to hold with one hand and place the block with the other.

Slip the belt between the pulleys on the torque driver, and then work the belt over the variator shaft.  Reinstall the variator parts and you should be good to go.

Have you checked out Kenda?  They have a variety of tires and are available in some hard to find sizes.

Reasonably priced, too.   I have been pleased with the ones I have run; I have them on several scoots.

Great pics as usual - looks like a fun ride.  Wish I was closer to you guys.....miss the good rides.

Interesting comparison.  The little bikes pique my interest....  Didn't think that Rich would have been interested in one-you turning him on to scooters has been a gateway?    As I recall, when we were all together in August he mentioned getting a new motorcycle and said it would be his last...so his garage must be full?

Technical | How To / Re: Where do I start
« on: November 13, 2020, 01:56:27 PM »
I will assume your scoot is de-restricted.  Generally, installing an expansion chamber pipe and tuning the CVT with rollers and springs will get you the speed you need.  A pipe is the first step in getting more power from the 2 stroke engine.

Depending on what country you are in, and the year of your scoot you may have some other restrictions, such as the CDI.

You are going to have to get a jet kit with a wide range of sizes.  I find that running a jet so large that it bogs out rich is a good starting point - then step down until it is able to accelerate without bogging.  This way you will not run too lean, and seizing it.

Assuming that you start out with no hesitations or dead spots in your acceleration by having your springs and rollers set up properly.   Poor transmission tuning can mimic poor carb tuning and vice-versa.

General Discussion / Re: Former KYMCO USA Technician
« on: October 01, 2020, 12:49:27 PM »
Thanks for joining us.

I know the frustration of working with a once respected company that had great products but very poor support from the management in its final years (a century old company, now just a memory, even though the industry is still doing well).

I have a 2004 Bet & Win 250, and a 2004 Super 9, both great scoots.  Hard to get parts for nowadays, which may just leave me with inop bikes for some time - if parts can be even sourced anymore.

Hopefully you can help some of the folks on here that need parts and service.

Any insight on where to order parts from other than the US?

Pretty sure the ZX50 Super Fever was available in green, oh, about 2001?
