General Discussion / Sold My Ak550 and Have spare parts
« on: May 12, 2022, 05:56:23 PM »
Hi All,

After taking a few longer rides with AK550, I realized I wanted a roomier bike. I traded the AK for an African Twin (I know big jump)

Anyway I had intended to keep the AK and ordered spare parts. I don't have the complete list but I have 3 Hiflo Oil Filters, some smaller parts, like the oil screen, an extra plastic oil cap for the screen and some o-rings. Last and biggest thing is Easy boost Variator tool.

If anyone that lives close enough to come to Thousand Oaks, CA is interested let me know. All unused of course. I also have a 4 liters of Motul 7100 10-40 oil I won't be needing.

Thanks

General Discussion / Re: What will happen to Kymco
« on: March 21, 2022, 11:05:39 PM »
We're getting out of our depth here - better stick to scooters!  FWIW, regardless of what happens to Taiwan, it's all China, and China is very good at making stuff.  It might be that Kymco parts will be much cheaper and available online with 2-day delivery.  I personally find it much easier buy parts from China than from Taiwan. Who knows how this will turn out? Let's think positively!

JJJoseph - You're right.  Best to just enjoy our scooters. We don't what China will do.

I have thought about how China invading Taiwan would impact Kymco, but more importantly, I worry about the people of Taiwan.

General Discussion / Re: My new Givi windshield for my AK550
« on: February 24, 2022, 11:05:15 PM »
I finally gt my new windshield from Givi. I like the way it looks mostly but I'm not sure if I like that it doesn't go as far down at the bottom as the stock widshield.

Curious if the Givi windscreen is better for taller riders. I'm pretty tall about 74 inches, inseam 34. I wear ear plugs with the stock windscreen, noisy but turbulence isn't bad. Does the Givi cut turbulence?

General Discussion / Re: Is this for real? 2016 TMAX for $14,500
« on: February 24, 2022, 08:11:51 PM »
"120 mph"?  In your dreams buddy.  Have seen a few ads here in the UK with prices which I can only assume are a typo.  Could that be the case here?

I was thinking he meant $4500, but could be the seller is hoping for an uniformed buyer.

Every once is a while I run across people trying to sell vehicles well over the true value. Wonder if thi8s seller is taking the Covid related supply chain issues too far.

We never did hear a word back from the guy that started this thread, did we...

 ::) :o :-\

Didn't realize my had so many responses and I wasn't alone (or crazy).  I had to take break, but starting riding again. Still feel the clunk, but seems to be less intense. Early February will be 1 year since I picked it up.

General Discussion / AK 550 Owners Near Thousand Oaks, California
« on: June 27, 2021, 02:12:59 AM »
Wondering if there are any other AK550 owners in or near Thousand Oaks, California, I can meet up with. Wanted to compare something I feel while slowing down at about 20 mph. I feel a brief vibration/clunk. Wondering if it's me being too sensitive. My guess is that it's the clutch or CVT disengaging. I've had other CVT scooters and they had similar characteristics, but this feels different. The motor is great with more than enough power. Shifts are solid (I think that is still the correct term for CVT). Handles like a standard MC and brakes well. I've owned quite a few motorcycles and scooters over the years and the AK is the most comfortable I've owned.

Before I drop it off at the dealer, I was hoping to compare with another AK.

Thanks

The only changes seem to be the Drive-by-Wire and revised exhaust to meet Euro 5 standards. Drive-by-Wire is a nice upgrade. I will say that for a CVT scooter the AK550 has been very usable for me in all areas. (Freeway, canyons and traffic).

General Discussion / Re: Oil Filter for AK 550

Just curious if the K&N 164 would be the same as the HiFiltro HF164.   :-\

I would stick with HiFiltro. Even if the K&N fits, I've read that K&N may not function like an OEM. I don't recall what spec makes the difference. Something to do with the flow pressure rating. You may want to do some research.

I called K&N Yesterday. The lady that I talked to would not accept that the K&N 164 oil filter would be for the 2021 KYMCO AK550. She said if I used it , they did not recommend it. :(

My AK550 came with the Hifiltro HF164 installed. It seems like that is the OEM oil filter. At least in North America. Easy to get on Amazon. The same filter works on many BMW bikes.

General Discussion / Re: Changing oil - AK550
« on: March 23, 2021, 05:04:34 AM »
Wel-I appreciate your reply. I am going to try to at least do the first one. I believe that is supposed to be at somewhere around 180-200 miles.  I will definitely take my time as you have done.  Thank you Wel.

According to the owners manual first oil change is 600 miles. I did it at around 500 miles.

I did an oil change recently on my AK550. There are quite a few screws, bolts and plastic fasteners to remove, but it was not that difficult. I took my time and was very careful as I moved the plastic parts out of the way.

Hi AK550 Owners.

I have about 700 miles on my AK550. From the beginning I noticed a vibration, may more of clunk during deceleration at about 20-22 mph (32-35 kph).

My guess is it's the clutch/transmission disengaging or something like that. The scooter runs fine, without any noticeable issues.

Changed the oil and filter about 100 miles ago and no change and runs great.

Have any other AK owners noticed this characteristic?
